Chapter 244: Chapter 210: Part 2

The team members successfully captured the radiation frogs and carefully collected the required samples. They continued exploring the wetlands, gathering various insect, reptile, and bird specimens.

As time passed, both teams achieved significant results. The patrol team discovered several potential threats around the shelter and took prompt action to deal with them. The collection team, meanwhile, successfully gathered a variety of biological samples, including some from rare, mutated species.

When the two teams reconvened at the shelter, Lin Hao and Neil exchanged mission reports.

"We found tracks of some large mutated creatures and have already strengthened patrols and defenses in the relevant areas," Lin Hao reported to Neil.

Neil nodded. "Our haul was substantial as well. We collected several types of biological samples with high research value. The science team will definitely be interested in these findings."

After listening to the two teams’ reports, Ye Yun highly praised their work.

"Your work is vital to the shelter’s safety and development," Ye Yun said. "We will continue to support your operations to ensure the shelter’s prosperity and progress."

With the mission successfully completed, the shelter’s residents were filled with respect and gratitude for Lin Hao, Neil, and their teams.

During their patrols, Lin Hao’s team encountered some small colonies of mutated creatures. They quickly eliminated these threats, securing the area around the shelter. At the same time, they also collected some common biological samples during their patrols, providing basic materials for the science team’s research.

Meanwhile, in the wilderness, the members of the other team were far more cautious. Led by Neil, they used traps and capture tools to successfully catch several rare creatures, collecting samples of their blood, tissue, and cells. These samples were priceless to the science team, as they might hold the key to unlocking the secrets of mutated life.

Zhou Mei and Leo stood in the shelter’s central plaza, looking out at a bustling scene. Residents were busy building a stage and setting up booths in preparation for the upcoming cultural exchange event.

"Zhou Mei, what do you think of our stage design?" Leo asked, pointing to a wooden structure under construction.

Zhou Mei observed it for a moment, then nodded in satisfaction. "The design is very creative. This central stage will allow our performers to better showcase their talents."

"I agree. I also specially designed some adjustable parts to accommodate different types of performances," Leo said proudly.

Their conversation was interrupted by a young man who ran up in a hurry. "Zhou Mei, Leo, our trade area needs more tables and sunshades."

"Alright, we’ll arrange it right away," Zhou Mei replied, then turned to Leo. "We need to speed things up and make sure every area is ready on time."

"I’ll handle the issue with the trade area. You go check on the preparations for the cultural performances," Leo suggested.

The two split up. Zhou Mei walked over to the performers who were rehearsing. She saw a group of children practicing a dance, their faces brimming with excitement and anticipation.

"You’re all dancing wonderfully, but pay attention to the rhythm and follow the music’s beat," Zhou Mei encouraged them. "Our performance isn’t just about showcasing our culture; it’s also about conveying our joy and hope."

The children nodded and threw themselves into the rehearsal with even more focus. Zhou Mei left with a smile, knowing these children would be the brightest stars of the event.

Meanwhile, Leo was busy in the trade area. He directed workers as they moved tables and set up sunshades, ensuring every stall was properly arranged.

"Leo, our handicrafts are ready. Where do you think would be a good place for us to set them up?" a craftsman asked.

Leo thought for a moment and pointed to a prominent spot. "Put them in that booth over there. The foot traffic is high, so your handicrafts are sure to attract a lot of attention."

The craftsman nodded in satisfaction and began to set up their booth. Leo continued to patrol the trade area, making sure everything was in order.

As the day of the event drew near, the shelter’s residents became even more actively involved in the preparations. Artists hung their paintings on display boards, musicians tuned their instruments, and tech enthusiasts built stands to exhibit their latest inventions.

On the day of the event, the sun shone brightly. The shelter’s gates were wide open to welcome representatives from neighboring shelters and settlements. They brought with them various local specialties and cultural artifacts, ready to interact and trade with the residents of the shelter.

"Welcome, welcome!" Zhou Mei and Leo greeted each arriving guest warmly. "We’re so glad you could join our cultural exchange event."

The guests were invited to the front of the central stage, where the opening ceremony was about to begin. Zhou Mei walked onto the stage and delivered a welcome address to everyone.

"Honored guests, dear residents, we gather here today not only to showcase our culture and achievements, but more importantly, to connect and learn from one another. Let us use today’s event to deepen our mutual understanding and build stronger friendships."

As Zhou Mei’s voice faded, applause and cheers filled the entire plaza. After the opening ceremony, the cultural exchange event officially began.

Musicians began to play, and beautiful melodies echoed across the plaza. Dancers moved with the music, their elegant forms earning waves of applause from the audience. The handicraft display area drew many guests, who stopped to admire the artisans’ skills and praise them endlessly.

In the technology exhibition area, tech enthusiasts showed their inventions to the guests. From energy-saving devices to new communication tools, each invention reflected the wisdom and innovative spirit of the shelter’s residents.

The trade area was even more lively. A dazzling array of goods was on display, and people bartered for items they needed while also exchanging life experiences and survival skills.

As the event progressed, people from different backgrounds gradually broke down the barriers between them. Through their interactions, they found common ground and forged new connections and friendships.

"This event is a huge success. Seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces, I know we’ve taken the first step toward deepening our mutual understanding," Zhou Mei said to Leo.

Leo nodded in agreement. "Yes, and this is just the beginning. I believe that through events like this, our shelter will become even more united and strong."

As the sun set, the cultural exchange event came to a successful conclusion. People bid each other farewell reluctantly, leaving the shelter with bountiful gains and fond memories. Zhou Mei and Leo stood in the plaza, watching the crowd gradually disperse, their hearts filled with satisfaction and hope.

"We did it, Leo," Zhou Mei said with a smile. "We not only showcased our culture but also fostered communication and cooperation with other shelters."

"That’s right, Zhou Mei. This is the result of our collective effort. I’m sure our shelter will become even more prosperous because of it," Leo responded.

Bena stood on the high walls of the shelter, his sharp gaze sweeping across the surrounding wasteland. Night fell, the stars were sparse, and he knew this was when accidents were most likely to happen.

"Stay alert," Bena said to the patrol members beside him. "Night is when danger is most likely to strike. We can’t let our guard down for a second."

"Understood, Captain," the team members replied in low voices. They held their weapons ready, their eyes scanning the darkness for any unusual movement.

The patrol was split into several small teams, each responsible for a different sector. Using night-vision devices and thermal imagers, they checked every inch of land outside the walls.
