Everything she had left was riding on this master of the Strategy Encyclopedia, she only hoped he wouldn’t disappoint them when the storm came.

Right as she cleared her head, a torrent of demonic power flooded into her without warning.

The intrusion pulled a gasp out of her, numbness spread through her frame.

Her limbs went soft, this dead ghost of a master, why does he never give a warning first?

There’s no reading his schedule at all.

Still, my body has adapted to his demonic energy.

When the conversion began it was agony, now, it’s actually rather comfortable.

She closed her eyes, and quietly enjoyed his demonic energy running her meridians and pooling in her core.

Everything in her felt clear.

As the divine power in her frame receded further, her Demonic Form took on a deeper, more bewitching cast.

The pristine divine meridians running through her body, baptized over and over in his demonic energy, were turning into dark meridians with a black luster to them.

Soren couldn’t hear a word of what went on in her head.

He could only read her general state off the shifts in her eyes, her reactions, the way she held herself.

Getting the Divine Goddesses out of the diagram was long, grinding work.

Fortunately.

He wasn’t an Emperor Realm cultivator anymore, he was a Middle-Tier Demon Ancestor with reserves that didn’t run out.

After several hours of deep cultivation.

He raised the Heavenly Dao Demonic Form’s conversion degree to 66.

At 66, her personal cultivation speed already matched an Upper-Tier Ancestor’s.

He was still a fair distance from the authority required to pull her out of the diagram in the flesh.

Soren twitched his lip.

The sky beyond the window was going dark, so he ended the session and drew his consciousness back.

Cecilia was still in the chair beside him, watching without a word.

Exactly as expected, she hadn’t been stupid enough to try anything while he was under.

The opening had looked tempting from the outside. His foundation was simply too much. The real probability of success sat at zero.

Before long Victoria came back from a punishing day of administration.

Celeste wasn’t with her.

Soren found that mildly interesting, catching the question in his eyes, Victoria answered in a tone soaked in vinegar.

"What? I came back alone and you’re disappointed?"

"Ahem, I’m curious, that’s all," Soren said smoothly.

"Celeste is as stubborn as they come, how did you talk her into staying behind?"

"That’s a secret between women," Victoria said.

Then her tone changed, and warmth came into it.

"Come on. Come with me to my pocket dimension."

"I’m making my Ancestor Realm attempt tonight."

"And there’s something important I need to discuss with you."

Hearing that, Cecilia curled her lip from her chair.

"Since you two are off to cultivate, I won’t tag along and be a third wheel, I’ll take a walk around the palace and see whether there’s anywhere I can be useful."

Soren smiled and left with Victoria.

They stepped into a rift torn through the middle of the hall and were gone.

Cecilia sat a few moments longer, then stood and walked toward the doors, her face had gone heavy, too much in her head.

Out under the night sky, she looked up into the void, the stars in her eyes flickered unevenly.

"What am I supposed to do now?"

"I’ve watched this man work for days."

"The forbidden techniques and assassination methods I’ve mastered are useless against him."

"He summons the dead at his leisure, he regrew flesh onto an Immemorial serpent dead over a million years, poison is not a serious idea."

"And it only goes one direction, his strength keeps climbing."

"The window for killing him is closing to nothing."

She had never felt so completely without options.

Not once in her life.

Every assignment before this, she’d used her Immemorial forbidden techniques and removed the target in silence, without leaving a mark or waking a soul.

This target could not be assassinated by any logic she knew.

The Alliance’s intelligence division had assembled superficial background on Soren and captured nothing accurate about his methods or the cheats behind them.

She couldn’t guess how many cards he still had face-down.

"If I keep hesitating, before I find an opening."

"He’ll reach Upper-Tier Demon Ancestor, and once he’s there, who under heaven fights him?"

"There was also what she’d pulled out of Trever today."

"He had met a living member of the Ancient Evil God Tribe inside an Immemorial ruin, by his assessment, that Evil God carried about a hundred times the coercion Soren carried now."

"But if Soren reached Upper-Tier Demon Ancestor, his own strength would go up a hundredfold."

She had to move before that breakthrough, or every sacrifice the Heavenly Demon Alliance had made to bring back the Ancient Evil Gods stopped meaning anything.

She turned it over and over, then decided on a gamble.

Plenty of apprehension in it.

"To finish the mission and protect the alliance, she was betting everything on one throw."

"Victoria is attempting the Ancestor Realm tonight, that won’t be quick."

"Even with Soren personally guarding and assisting her, it takes time."

"Celeste is also Soren’s woman, and her cultivation realm is very low."

"The people around her in that reception hall are Upper-Tier Emperors who came to swear fealty."

"Against Immemorial stealth, Upper-Tier Emperors are no more of a problem than that fool Arcturus was."

"If I take Celeste quietly, and hold her."

"There’s a strong chance I can force Soren to terms."

"The only thing that explains a jump from Lower-Tier to Middle-Tier Demon Ancestor at that speed is a massive infusion of destiny, everything points to him having found the Kunpeng Beast Tribe’s lost Kun-Heaven Nether Sea."

"If I can trade Celeste for access to that sea, that’s the whole game."

"With that sea open."

"Not only me, my uncle and the Heaven Demon Ancestor could both reach Upper-Tier Ancestor in short order."

"Celeste is the acknowledged Second Mistress of Black Dragon Mountain, his woman and one of the public faces of his empire."

"I refuse to believe he’ll be indifferent to whether she lives."

"Since killing him is hopeless anyway."

"This is the only road left."
