Cecilia bit her lip.

She drew in a slow breath of cold night air and stopped debating with herself, then she went into the shadows without a sound, heading for the reception hall where Celeste was working.

Meanwhile, inside Victoria’s pocket dimension.

Where Soren’s Demon Fortress was grim and oppressive, this place was scenic, serene.

It looked like an immortal palace hanging in rolling white cloud, looking around at it.

Soren felt a certain amount of embarrassment, his own Demon Fortress was black, damp, and haunted looking.

Next to this, his residence was a dungeon, as expected of my woman, her taste was impeccable.

Once inside, Victoria didn’t sit down to cultivate. She raised Cecilia first.

"Is this arrangement really going to be all right?"

Since this was business.

The play went out of Soren’s manner.

"Don’t worry."

"She won’t dare do physical harm to Celeste."

"And this was Celeste’s own decision, I chose to respect it."

"There’s risk in the plan, it’s still a very good plan."

"Besides, Celeste’s body carries my imprint."

"Nobody in this world can take her life."

Victoria went quiet at that.

And found herself back in the grand hall two and a half days ago.

When she and Celeste had been sealed behind that soundproof barrier, fighting over who would have their husband first.

Cecilia had been standing there with nothing in her eyes.

With her short-circuited, the three of them had used the time to talk.

Victoria asked Soren what his connection to Cecilia was. Soren told her plainly, an operative sent by the Heavenly Demon Alliance to assassinate him.

Victoria rolled her eyes and asked why a man who knew that would keep an assassin at his elbow, had lust finally gotten into his brain? Couldn’t he walk in a straight line past a pretty face anymore?

Soren coughed a few times and swore it was nothing of the sort.

Then Celeste went sour, she demanded an affectionate nickname of her own.

Soren produced one without thinking about it.

Victoria and Celeste both blinked, neither caught the meaning, it sounded cute, though.

Soren explained. "Soft on top, soft on the bottom."

The light came on for both of them, and the way they looked at him shifted, the man carried himself like a headstone most days, who knew he had jokes like that in him.

The rogue in him only made them worse, they dropped the tone and got to business.

Soren wanted the Heavenly Demon Alliance’s headquarters so he could pull the organization out root and branch before it woke the Ancient Evil God Tribe, if those Evil Gods woke, Black Dragon Mountain and all of Exalted Continent went into a crisis nobody had a plan for.

And he had no coordinates.

Celeste suggested coming at it from the other end, since Soren already knew Cecilia’s surrender was theater, why not use the theater?

Let her believe she’d won his trust, under cover of closed-door cultivation, Soren and Victoria would leave the Endless Demonic Domain, and Celeste would be left running administration alone.

Once Cecilia understood that killing Soren wasn’t happening, and still refused to go home empty-handed, there was a fifty or sixty percent chance she’d take Celeste hostage.

All Soren had to do was put a covert demonic imprint into Celeste first, if Cecilia carried her back to the base, he’d lock onto the imprint and follow it to the Alliance’s front door.

The plan was good. The risk was real.

If it worked, it would spare him the grind of pushing the Heavenly Dao Demonic Form’s conversion degree high enough to summon her out of the diagram just to dispel the restriction inside Cecilia.

Celeste said she’d do it without hesitation, if she could be of real use to him, dying for it would be a fair price, and she had a million percent faith in her man, he was never going to let her die inside the Heavenly Demon Alliance.

She kept at it until Soren agreed.

He put the imprint into her, quietly.

The whole time, Cecilia sat a few paces away staring at the three of them.

His method was subtle, as for the biological medium he’d used to transfer it, Cecilia had no idea.

She had skills that could eavesdrop on conversations sealed in spiritual or demonic energy, but deploying them in front of a Middle-Tier Demon Ancestor would have set off every alarm he owned.

She’d spent that entire session sitting like a statue and missed the fact that the three of them were assembling a trap around her.

When the joy of the memory had worn off, Victoria walked beside Soren toward the Cloud Topping Immortal Palace.

"If it goes smoothly, Cecilia won’t wait long before she takes Celeste," she said.

"I need to compress my breakthrough so we don’t miss the window."

She sighed softly. "Even so, Emperor Realm to Ancestor Realm isn’t small, you know that better than anyone, I’m not a freak of nature like you."

Alone with him, the public majesty went out of her voice, and what replaced it belonged to a wife.

"By the way," she said. "There’s something important I need to raise."

"I heard from one of the Upper-Tier Spirit Emperors who came to swear fealty, recently, an Upper-Tier Spirit Ancestor appeared on Exalted Continent out of nowhere."

"To keep their lives and territories, a great many domains under Human Emperors, Beast Emperors, and Demon Emperors have already submitted to her, she’s founded a faction, the Spirit Hunting Mansion."

"The continent has been chaotic since, the native Spirit tribes worst of all, Spirit domains and Spirit Emperors wiped out one after another, the Spirit Hunting Mansion’s stated purpose is to capture native Spirits and pen them like livestock to feed that Upper-Tier Spirit Ancestor’s appetite."

"The Spirit race is terrified, nine out of ten Emperor Realm powerhouses coming to our gates these past few days have been Spirit Emperors."

Victoria paused.

"Frankly, some do want to serve under our banner, most are Spirit Emperors frightened out of their minds who need a patron."

"Do we take all of them?"

This wasn’t a small question, Grand Mistress or not, Victoria wasn’t deciding it alone, she needed his position, handle it badly and they’d offend that Upper-Tier Spirit Ancestor, and a continental war would follow.
