Citadel of Time
Unknown Planet & Galaxy
Oblivion Universe
January 30th
Year 756 of the 50th General Calendar (Hell)
The Greater Daedra Jitriah walked soundlessly through the expansive hallways of the enormous Citadel, his pace calm as he made his way to the innermost chamber.
He stopped before the massive doors standing three times his height, and before he could fully open his mouth to announce his presence, they swung open without a sound.
Jitriah closed his slightly parted lips and stepped into the hall, paying no attention to the shining decorations and banners hanging along the walls as he headed directly toward the lone throne at the far end, which faced away from him toward the large opening in the citadel’s structure that revealed the night sky above.
Dropping to one knee, the Greater Daedra immediately spoke.
"Chief Divine, I have successfully delivered the Akashic Record to the Progenitor godslayer."
"Good work," a voice responded from the throne, its owner still gazing at the night sky as he continued, "You were noticed by Diablo, weren’t you?"
At that question, Jitriah blinked faintly, then recalled his encounter with Arthur and the Hell Dog he had seen on the moon of Planet Sele, along with Arthur’s casual wave toward it.
After recalling all of that, Jitriah nodded and replied, "Unfortunately, my lord."
His response earned a chuckle from the Chief Divine of the Oblivion Universe, the god of Time, Alkosh, who continued counting the stars of a constellation as he spoke.
"That’s not surprising. Hell is a bit different from the other Primary Universes in more ways than one. It’s not in its original position within the Multiverse, and because of that, certain Cosmic Rules are less effective there.
Thanks to that, Lucifer was able to modify the universe’s barrier."
He paused, allowing Jitriah to process the revelation in silence for a moment before continuing to speak.
"It did come with some side effects, though. The reduction in the average Existence Realm children of Hell Universe Deities are born with is just one of many."
Right after he finished speaking, Jitriah spoke immediately.
"My lord, may I ask a question?"
"Speak," Alkosh ordered, and Jitriah complied.
"Are you not...worried?"
The question from the daedra made Alkosh blink faintly in surprise.
"What should I be worried about?" he asked.
"That Zeus may find out about your dealings with the Progenitor godslayer."
Jitriah’s concern was completely natural, after all, Alkosh had taken advantage of his cooperation with Zeus to steal the Akashic Record of Olympus and had given it to Arthur, someone Zeus wanted dead.
"Oh, that," Alkosh replied casually.
His tone made it seem like he had expected something far greater to be the reason for Jitriah’s worry, as if he saw the possibility Jitriah mentioned as nothing more than a small nuisance.
"I couldn’t really care less whether Zeus knows I’m dealing with Arthur, and the reverse is the case.
I only care about my goals, and whichever one of them lasts long enough to help me achieve those goals.
That’s why I’m working with both of them. After all, they are the two that will bring me closest to what I truly desire, to return my ’original’ state."
Alkosh pushed himself up on his throne, leaning forward slightly as his gaze dropped to his hands.
"Although I’ve gotten used to this weak shell over the past few Cosmic Cycles, I still dislike it and would very much like to return to my original form, which is why I came to this Multiverse from the Dark Multiverse in the first place."
The man exhaled softly, his mind unwillingly drifting back to the incident that had nearly stripped him of all his power, forcing him to abandon the Dark Multiverse and retreat into the Numbered Multiverses to recover and recuperate.
He had been completely caught off guard, having lowered his guard under the assumption that he was receiving praise for his victory, only for what he believed to be congratulations to nearly turn into his execution.
Alkosh had escaped, having no other choice, especially since the one who had attempted to end his life was one of the most powerful entities in the Cosmos.
The oldest entity of the current Cosmos...a survivor of the previous iteration of all existence.
Alkosh had initially fled into the Fifth Multiverse, and his pursuers had halted their pursuit out of fear of drawing the attention of the Eternal of Death to his existence. That single decision had become his saving grace, since if he had fled directly into the First Multiverse, his life would have been forfeit by now.
Only a few years after hiding within the Fifth Multiverse did he eventually make his way into the First Multiverse and create the universe known as ’Oblivion’, using it to recycle the remaining power he had and prevent it from leaking out of his vessel until he could find a way to retrieve the missing fragment from the Dark Multiverse.
’If Arthur can reach the Dark Multiverse and recover the other half of my temporally split divine spark...’
The god’s thoughts cut off there, a soft exhale slipping from his lips as he leaned back on his throne and lifted his gaze back toward the skies above.
"Arthur and Zeus. godslayer and god. Two beings whose fates are bound to clash, with only one emerging as victor.
I only wish to engineer that clash, so I can gain the aid of whoever comes out on top."
After saying this, Alkosh raised his hand and waved it, dismissing Jitriah.
The Greater Daedra bowed before rising to his feet and turning around, heading out of the hall and leaving behind the god of Time, who continued to stare at the night sky.
"It’s been so many Cycles since I began recycling my power to refine what is left. I’ve tried time and time again, with many existences loosely bound by fate, whether they are lucky ones loved by the Concept, or Singularities feared by its power."
He watched shooting stars cross the night sky in bright flashes, the impermanent lights reflecting in his brown eyes, reminding him of the many bright stars of the Cosmos who had shone the brightest...
"...and had burned the fastest."
Many names crossed the ancient god’s mind, including Lucifer, the great-grandfather of the man he was now working with in a plot affecting entire universes.
"I too used to be a star of the Dark Multiverse, a Candidate to attain the power of the Aggressor of Time, and I too had my light snuffed out by the darkness looming just beneath the light of Creation."
He reached out towards the distant stars, muttering to himself.
"Only one between Arthur and Zeus would lead me to my goal. I wonder which one of you it will be.
The arrogant young god who believes himself an ’Absolute’, or the even younger godslayer who dares play the minds of ancients as pieces on his board."
The result of the final clash of fates between these two was hidden deeply behind layers of time that even Alkosh could not peer into, and perhaps his inability to predict this future was what made it all the more interesting to him.
