Godslayer's Legend

Chapter 1050: Alacrity and Momentum

"Hmm, I think you missed."

"!"

The hooded man immediately turned and swung the bow at the space behind him, a blade emerging from one of its edges as it sliced through space itself with burning divinity.

However, the slash failed to reach its target, as the one who had spoken instantly avoided it, creating several meters of distance.

There, staring at the hooded man with narrowed eyes, was Hermes, who had been aboard the chariot that had exploded only seconds earlier.

He’d sensed the incoming arrow, pinpointed the location of the one who fired it, and crossed the distance to that location in an instant.

"You are most definitely not Apollo," Hermes said, his green eyes glowing faintly as he narrowed his gaze at the hooded man.

The sight of the bow in their hands made his expression darken slightly as he demanded, "Where did you get that bow?"

The hooded man raised the bow and glanced at it before responding in a coarse voice, "He gave it to me many, many years ago. As for exactly when, I can’t remember."

The bow vanished from their hands as they continued, "As expected of the famed fastest man in Olympus. I expected as much, but I’m still surprised at how you managed to dodge that attack and locate me in an instant."

Hermes didn’t recognise the voice of the one speaking, nor did he recognise the divinity they radiated.

But what truly got to him was them calling him the ’famed fastest man in Olympus’.

Over the past few decades since Hades had cursed him through Cerberus, Hermes had been unable to use a large portion of his power because he constantly had to use his divinity to keep the curse at bay.

Because of where Cerberus had bitten him, Hermes hadn’t only lost a great deal of his power, but also his speed.

It was a particularly sensitive subject for Hermes, and everyone who knew about his curse avoided mentioning it in front of him.

However, this hooded man didn’t hesitate to touch upon that sore spot despite possessing enough power that they should’ve definitely noticed the curse, almost as though they were mocking Hermes.

Seeing Hermes remain silent with a dark expression, the hooded man shrugged before saying, "My apologies for the rude greeting. But considering we’re not exactly acquainted with one another, I saw little reason to be polite. And besides..."

Their voice lowered, its pitch becoming deeper as they confidently declared, "There is absolutely no reason for me to be polite to a man who’s going to die soon."

Hermes’ divinity erupted from his body, green light covering the land, while his staff, with two snakes coiling around its length up to its winged tip, appeared in his left hand.

"You think having Apollo’s bow makes you a match for me?"

Hearing this, the hooded man scoffed before replying, "I care not for the Sun god’s bow. I was merely using it to run a test, and now that that test is complete, it’s absolutely useless to me."

Taking a step forward, they released even more of their murky grey divinity before continuing, "I don’t need it to deal with you, Hermes."

|You’ll pay for that arrogance of yours,| Hermes replied, completely retracting his divinity into his body as bronze armour manifested over his torso and joints, along with a feathered helmet.

For a moment, there was silence.

Then, in the next instant, Hermes’ divinity erupted with the roaring fury of a tsunami, rushing forward like a massive wave that collided with the divinity released by the hooded man, the space around them cracking under the pressure of their violent auras.

Hermes’ emerald green divinity pushed back against the hooded man’s murky grey aura until the land beneath their feet reached its limit.

The Apex Planet quaked violently from pole to pole, mountain ranges collapsed into themselves, oceans rose thousands of kilometres into the atmosphere, and enormous fissures raced across the surface faster than light before the entire crust finally gave way.

’Authority of Alacrity + Momentum!’

Hermes simultaneously activated two of his Authorities, the wings of his shoes flapping as he moved, his staff already descending upon the hooded man’s skull before the shattered remains of the ground beneath them had even begun to rise from the planet.

But even with Hermes great speed, the energy of the universal law of time distorting the flow around him, the hooded man was able to react, having already begun moving even before Hermes did.

He condensed a long sword with his murky grey divinity, the energies of the universal laws of water, earth, fire, wind and death swirling around the weapon simultaneously as it met Hermes’ staff head-on with a collision that shattered the planet.

Billions upon billions of tons of molten rock burst into the vacuum, planetary fragments scattering across nearby space.

Before the expanding blast waves and debris had even reached their full extent, Hermes and the hooded man had already exchanged hundreds of blows, each collision releasing enough force to reduce continent-sized fragments into clouds of incandescent dust.

Hermes swung his staff over and over, every movement amplified by his Authority over Momentum, raising the power of each successive strike.

The twin serpents wrapped around the staff came alive, emerald scales gleaming beneath the light of distant stars as they launched themselves toward the hooded man from opposite directions, venom dripping from their exposed fangs.

Faced with this, the hooded man dispersed the divinity making up his long sword, and recondensed it in an instant to form a pair of shorter swords in each hand.

He used the short swords to intercept the serpents, both constructs exploding the instant they made contact, releasing immense amounts of death law energy that made the serpents recoil in pain, before immediately coiling back around Hermes’ staff.

In that moment he took to deal with the snakes, Hermes flashed behind him, thrusting his staff towards the back of the hooded man’s head.

|Verdigris Fire Authority.|

Emerald green flames erupted from his staff, spreading across millions of kilometres in an instant as immense universal law energy poured into the inferno.

The sea of green fire surged towards the hooded man, the flames carrying more than enough destructive power to reduce all celestial bodies in this galaxy to ashes.

However, the hooded man spun around and raised their hand to catch Hermes’ staff in a split-second, grey flames blossoming from their palm.

The opposing infernos collided in the small space between the two men, before erupting into an explosion that swallowed the surrounding planetary debris, reducing everything caught between the flames into nothing more than drifting particles.

The wings on Talaria beat lightly as Hermes vanished once more, circling the hooded man and swinging his staff towards the back of his neck.

But once again, the hooded man had already turned around, their murky grey divinity condensing into a massive war hammer that collided with Hermes’ staff with overwhelming force.

The divinity within the hammer churned violently as the laws of fire and death flowed through it, its true colour seemingly concealed beneath that murky grey appearance.

Before that mixture of law energies could erupt outward, Hermes disappeared in a flash, and the exploding energy consumed nothing but empty space.

Hundreds of green afterimages appeared around the hooded man, every one of them infused with enough divinity that even Superior High-Tier Deities would’ve struggled to distinguish them from the real Hermes.

The hooded man, however, didn’t even spare them a glance, instead turning toward an empty region of space and dashing in that direction just as Hermes appeared there.

Their fist, clad in a grey mixture of earth and death law energies, collided with Hermes’ jaw before the messenger god could even swing his staff.

’How—?!’

Hermes was blasted backwards, crashing through several asteroids and an entire planet before Talaria’s wings beat once more, completely reversing his momentum.

With the power of the law of alacrity, Hermes’ speed increased even further, and the distance between him and the hooded man vanished, but even at that speed, his opponent was able to evade his attack and throw out a counterattack.

Frowning, Hermes stacked his Authorities, the law of momentum building upon his previous movement, every acceleration layering over the last until his speed reached a level that even some Inferior Monarchs would’ve been unable to perceive.
