Celeste leaned closer, her lips curling faintly. "Are you frightened?"
"Extremely." He faked a small shiver.
"You do not look frightened."
"I hide it well."
Her hand slid behind his neck and clasped it with terrifying strength. "Well, you should be; have you ever heard of domestic violence?"
Before Elion could respond, a sharp knock sounded from the chamber door.
Celeste’s pleasant expression vanished instantly. The warmth in her eyes turned cold as she looked toward the entrance.
"What?" Her voice was quite clearly annoyed. Perhaps this was not the first time she had to deal with whatever this was.
A nervous voice answered from the other side.
"Princess, forgive the interruption, but Grand Elder Dorian instructed us to ask once again whether Lord Elion had awakened."
Celeste’s gaze returned to Elion.
Elion sighed. "I suppose everyone wants to speak to me."
"They have been waiting for a week."
"That sounds like their problem."
The corner of Celeste’s lips lifted. "That is also what I told them."
"Princess?" The nervous voice came from the door again.
"Tell them he is still sleeping." She lied without the slightest hint of hesitation.
There was a short silence. If this person had been standing at the door for a while now, then it made sense that he heard two voices speaking before deciding to speak up.
Despite the fact that he suspected that Elion was awake, he could not question the princess’s words now, could he?
"Understood..." In the end, that was all he said before the sound of footsteps echoed from beyond the door.
Perhaps he had decided that trying to act smart was more trouble than it was worth. He would report exactly what Celeste had said.
Elion laughed to himself while shaking his head at how devious his little vampire princess was becoming.
"What? They have been waiting for so long already; they can wait some more." Well, she was right.
The two of them had been apart for a while; it was only natural that they catch up a bit before dealing with whatever problems awaited them beyond the doors.
A thought suddenly occurred to Elion.
If he had been asleep for an entire week, then what had happened with his duel back in Silvergrove?
His expression immediately darkened. "Well, shit," he muttered.
"What is it?" Celeste asked.
Elion shook his head. "Nothing. I just remembered that I had something important to do." He would return with Zenith as soon as he was done dealing with this situation.
Since he was late already, there was no need for him to rush. He would get there when he got there.
"Where is Zenith, by the way?"
The thought of Zenith reminded him that he had also left the other ladies inside the Ark for an entire week.
It would not have been too bad, since the Ark came with furnishings, bedrooms, and a kitchen stocked with all the basic necessities, but being stuck inside for an entire week must still have been suffocating.
"Zenith was here this morning," Celeste replied, "but she disappears randomly at times; other than that, we haven’t really talked."
A slight frown appeared on Celeste’s face. "Is she really your wife?"
Elion smiled. "Of course, I have plenty of beautiful women by my side; would you believe it?" He looked at Celeste lovingly as he said that, giving her tummy a little nudge.
Celeste couldn’t help but laugh at his antics. "I won’t even ask how someone so powerful willingly became one of your women, but okay..."
Elion nodded and focused on the connection between him and Zenith to locate her.
She was very close, somewhere within the castle, but since she had not come to see him yet despite the fact that she could probably sense that he was up, perhaps she was dealing with something that required her attention.
At the same time, Elion reached out to the Ark as well.
Outside, the spherical vessel silently shot through the sky while remaining completely invisible. It quickly reached the open window and slipped into the room without making a sound.
Once inside, the sleek vessel became visible, stopping before Elion and Celeste while levitating quietly in the air.
Celeste was visibly startled.
Her crimson eyes immediately sharpened as she stared at the strange object floating before them.
"What is that?"
Elion smiled faintly.
"This... Is my ride."
Celeste continued staring at the smooth spherical vessel floating before them. Even with her newly strengthened senses, she could barely understand what she was looking at.
There were no visible wings that enabled it to stay in the air like that.
It was simply there, hovering silently as though the laws that forced everything else toward the ground did not apply to it.
"You can think of it as a flying vessel that also doubles as a house."
Elion spent the next few minutes explaining the various functions and benefits the Ark possessed. By the end of his explanation, Celeste was nothing short of bewildered.
"It is that big?" she asked in shock.
"Yeah." Elion nodded. "How about we head inside? Mira and the others are waiting there as well. They have been trapped inside for a week since I was not awake to allow them out."
Celeste nodded and accepted Elion’s outstretched hand.
A second later, their bodies distorted before disappearing from the room with a soft whoosh, reappearing inside the Ark.
The moment Elion and Celeste appeared inside the Ark, they were greeted by the familiar sight of the immaculate white lounge and the curved glass-like panels covering the walls.
Celeste’s crimson eyes widened slightly. Even after Elion’s explanation, seeing the interior with her own eyes was completely different.
The space inside the vessel was several times larger than the chamber they had just left, and this was supposedly only the main lounge.
There were no windows, yet the walls displayed a perfect view of the space outside, almost as though the metal separating them from the world did not exist.
Celeste slowly looked around. "This entire space exists inside that small sphere?"
"Mhm."
"And you said there are bedrooms, bathrooms, a kitchen, a training room, and a workshop?"
"Yes."
Celeste looked at him.
Elion smiled smugly. "I told you it was big." Before she could respond, the sound of hurried footsteps echoed from the hallway.
"Elion?"
Mira was the first to appear.
She stopped the moment she saw him standing in the lounge, her eyes widening before relief visibly washed across her face.
Aria appeared directly behind her, followed closely by Tessa and Isla. Aria immediately rushed forward.
"Elion!"
He barely had time to open his arms before she threw herself against him, wrapping both arms tightly around his waist.
"You bastard!" she shouted against his chest. "Do you have any idea how worried we were?"
"A little bit?"
"You were gone without a word, for a week!"
"I’m sorry, I suddenly passed out, and only just woke up."
Aria pulled back and stared up at him. Her eyes were very quick to redden with unshed tears, though she quickly narrowed them to hide it.
"You could not even wake up long enough to let us out?"
Elion winced. "I did not exactly choose to remain unconscious for so long."
"That is not the point."
"It feels like an important part of the point."
Aria struck his chest with one fist, though there was very little strength behind it. "You idiot." Elion smiled and pulled her closer again.
"I am sorry, okay." The simple apology seemed to drain most of the anger from her. It seemed more and more like Aria was perpetually angry with him these days, but she was also easy to appease as long as he let her hug him for a bit.
Aria pressed her face against his chest and held him tightly for several seconds before finally stepping aside, understanding that the others were waiting for her.
Mira approached next.
Unlike Aria, she did not throw herself at him. She stopped in front of Elion and studied him from head to toe with her arms folded beneath her cleavage.
"You look terrible."
"I missed you too."
"You are pale, your movements are sluggish, and judging from the fact that you were unconscious for so long, I assume you nearly died."
Elion laughed wryly. "I would not say nearly died." Celeste quietly looked away, which Mira easily noticed.
Her gaze shifted toward the two exposed puncture marks on Elion’s neck that looked fresher than she remembered, before slowly looking toward Celeste.
Putting two and two together, recalling a certain memory, she came to one conclusion. "You did this?"
Celeste remained silent for a moment before nodding guiltily. "I lost control after my awakening."
