Mira gave it a thought, realizing that, for once, Aria actually had a good point.
"They are beautiful, but also extremely conspicuous. One is golden, while the other looks as though it contains an entire night sky. Everyone you meet will notice them."
"That sounds like their problem."
Mira raised a brow. "You do not intend to conceal them?"
"I thought about it," Elion admitted. "But why should I?" He dismissed the water mirror and turned towards them.
"They are part of me now, and they look far too good to hide. Besides, unusual eyes are hardly the strangest sight in this world. Most people will probably assume they come from some rare bloodline."
"And the people knowledgeable enough to realize they are more than that?" Mira asked.
Elion smiled faintly. "They would have to understand what they are first."
Even he had never heard of the World Eyes before receiving them.
Unless someone had encountered a previous wielder with something similar, or possessed knowledge far beyond the current world, recognizing their true nature from appearance alone would be nearly impossible.
He also had little interest in spending his life hiding every unusual power he acquired.
There was a difference between keeping his abilities secret and pretending they did not exist.
"Besides," Elion continued, "I can suppress their stronger abilities while leaving the appearance unchanged. Anyone attempting to study them will only see a pair of unusual pupils unless I deliberately activate something."
Aria leaned closer, staring directly into his eyes again. "That might still cause problems. People are going to keep looking at you."
"They already did."
"They will look even more now."
Elion smiled. "Then they can enjoy the view."
Aria rolled her eyes. "You really are impossible."
Zenith moved close enough to cup his face between her hands, turning his head slightly as she examined each eye.
"You should never hide them."
"At least someone understands me."
Aria groaned.
"Stop encouraging him."
Zenith ignored her and continued staring into his eyes until Elion gently removed her hands from his face.
With the matter of their appearance settled, he continued experimenting with the passive functions of the World Eyes, looking towards Aria.
A pale earthy brown glow clung to her body, flowing around her like a thin layer of brown mist. Beneath it was a much weaker blue color that appeared and disappeared whenever she moved.
Aria noticed his stare and immediately crossed her arms. "What are you looking at now?"
"Your affinities."
"You can see them?"
"Apparently. Earth is the strongest, but there is also a faint water affinity."
Aria looked down at herself as though she expected the colors to become visible. "I have never been particularly talented with anything other than Earth Magic; I didn’t even know I had another affinity, but I guess most people in my family tend to have a water affinity, so that must be why."
"I guess not being able to use it does not mean the affinity is absent," Elion replied. "It may simply be too weak for ordinary affinity tests to detect."
He shifted his attention towards Mira.
Several colors surrounded her, the clearest being a soft red that resembled her fire affinity. Thin traces of gold and pale blue lingered beneath it.
"Fire is your strongest affinity, as expected," he said. "There are weaker traces of Light and Wind as well."
Mira nodded.
"That matches the aptitude test I took when I was younger, although my wind affinity was considered too weak to develop, and I never even knew I had an affinity for light magic."
"The World Eyes can probably see affinities that ordinary testing artifacts miss." That alone made them incredibly useful.
A person could possess a rare affinity their entire life without ever discovering it simply because it was too faint to register through conventional methods.
Perhaps, with the right resources, even those weaker affinities might be strengthened. He certainly hoped so.
Elion quietly wondered whether it would be possible to obtain some artifact or potion that could improve the ladies’ affinities for other elements.
He hadn’t been able to see any of these hidden affinities with the discerning eye, so it was certainly different from Celeste’s case, where she was not only unaware of her time magic affinity, but also completely unable to use it.
Perhaps that would have changed after her bloodline reached the Progenitor level, but since he had completely passed up on the opportunity to check on her status, he would have to check the next time they met to make sure.
’On that note, I should probably do something about improving their levels and combat skills.’
The best way to protect them would be to remain by their sides at all times, but that simply was not possible.
The next best option was to ensure that every one of his women became strong enough to defend herself.
Protective treasures aside, relying upon one’s own strength was always the most effective.
Mira had mentioned that she trained with Esme back in Grimholt whenever she had nothing else to do.
As for the academy, Elion no longer believed it was as great as most people claimed. Maybe the curriculum in the higher years was more insightful, but from what he had seen, that godforsaken school was incredibly lacking, his grievances with them aside.
With the insight granted by his new eyes, he could study how the ladies fought and cast their spells, then instruct them on what they needed to improve based on his analysis.
Battle instincts had always come naturally to him.
Although he still had much to learn himself, he was already quite capable, and if he could pass even some of that knowledge on to the others, their little family could eventually become an unstoppable force.
Besides, they had an actual Saint on their side, so Zenith could help him train the others as well.
However, something told him she was not nearly as skilled in combat as he had initially assumed.
She was simply overwhelmingly powerful, which made it easier for her to win through raw strength.
Elion, on the other hand, had often been forced to plan, strategize, and exploit every possible advantage when facing opponents stronger than himself.
’Well... Not really.’
Would he really say he had ever struggled ever since gaining the system? He certainly didn’t think so.
’It has been a bumpy ride, but not so bad that I would say I have been struggling.’ Who else could claim gaining as much as he did in the past year?
No one.
Putting those thoughts aside, Elion turned towards Zenith next. The moment he focused upon her, his vision was nearly consumed by darkness.
Dense layers of black and crimson energy twisted around her body, concealing several deeper colors he could not immediately distinguish.
Her aura seemed less like ordinary mana and more like an entire world compressed within a human form.
Zenith smiled brightly.
"What do you see?"
"Trouble. There are too many overlapping affinities to distinguish. Darkness and demonic energy are the most obvious, but there is far more buried beneath them."
"Of course there is. I am very powerful, and I can use every existing elemental affinity, but it’s nothing impressive compared to hubby." She smiled.
"Wow, so humble," Mira teased with a chuckle.
Zenith nodded seriously. "Yes, of course."
Elion shook his head and finally looked towards Tessa.
