Vivian watched as Cain dropped to his knees before falling sideways. His body twitched violently as foam gathered at the corners of his mouth, and only a moment later, he lost consciousness.

Vivian was not faring much better.

She did not collapse or begin convulsing, but that was only because Elion had directed most of the pressure towards Cain.

Even so, her top had become soaked through with sweat.

She could barely breathe, her chest rising and falling violently as she struggled to draw air into her lungs.

When she finally looked up, she saw Elion towering over them.

His beautiful mismatched eyes stared down at the pair with undisguised disdain, as though they were nothing more than ants beneath his feet.

It was a look Vivian knew she would never forget for the rest of her life.

’What kind of monster have we provoked?’

Even though she had not been the one to provoke him directly, it was already over for both of them.

She was going to die here.

What was stopping him?

However, in the next moment, the pressure vanished.

Vivian collapsed forwards onto the floor, wheezing violently as air finally rushed back into her lungs.

"Let us go," she heard Elion say.

The two women rose from their seats and followed him out.

Zenovia remained behind for a moment longer, watching Cain and Vivian with an oddly satisfied expression before releasing a cold snort and following after them.

By the time they passed through the door, the small bell above it ringing softly, Vivian still could not believe how fortunate she had been.

I’m alive?

He had actually allowed them to live.

Had taking their lives been so far beneath him that he had deemed it unnecessary?

What had Elion gone through after disappearing that had changed him into the sort of being he had become now?

The world was truly a vast place.

That was the only thought Vivian could form.

There were always stronger people, unfathomable beings who stood far beyond anything one could understand, and she had been unfortunate enough to provoke one such monster.

Once she had finally regained some of her senses, she got up shakily and looked towards Cain. An unpleasant, pungent smell had begun spreading through the inn.

It took her only a moment to realize that Cain had soiled himself. Despite the state she was in, the discovery drew a broken laugh from her lips.

"Hahahahaha!"

She laughed for a long time.

How long, she did not know. Her laughter sounded slightly deranged, but the happiness behind it was genuine.

"Serves you right, you bastard."

...

"Was that wise?" Zenovia asked as they walked away from the inn, leaving everyone inside incapacitated.

Even though she was satisfied with the outcome, she did not want to cause problems for Elion, especially after he had knocked out everyone inside.

Elion shrugged.

Only he knew why he had done it.

Zenith had been only a moment away from sending Cain’s head flying, so one could say he had actually done the two assassins a favor.

"Do you think the Assassins Guild will seek retaliation for that?" he asked.

Zenovia shook her head.

"No. They do not care much about the affairs of their individual members. Most people also keep their identities as assassins a secret, so unless those two come after you for revenge themselves, you should be safe."

She gave him a curious look.

"But what exactly did you do to them back there?"

Elion gave her a smug smile.

"Nothing much really. What? Were you impressed?"

Zenovia harrumphed and looked away.

"Just a little," she whispered.

Elion could only shake his head wryly.

"Come. Let us head inside."

They were now standing right in front of the Triad Alliance’s multiple-story building.

Elion led the group forwards, but they were stopped by a pair of familiar guards before they could enter.

A few curious glances were directed towards them by the people entering and leaving the building.

"What business do you have here?" one of the guards asked, his voice rather gruff.

"I am a member here," Elion explained, gesturing towards the women beside him. "And these are my companions."

The guard’s eyes narrowed beneath his polished helmet.

"Your identification?"

’Hmmmm.... Oh, shit.’

Only then did Elion realize that he had forgotten to retrieve his identification token from Marilyn the other day.

"I only joined recently, and I was told to collect my identification...uh, today."

The man’s eyes narrowed even further.

"Is that so?"

Putting aside the fact that Elion’s eyes were rather unsettling, why was this young man walking around with a group of beauties as though it were the most natural thing in the world?

Was he merely stroking his ego and showing off how capable he was when it came to wooing women?

"And what business might your companions have here?" the guard asked suspiciously. "It cannot be that they are merely here to... escort you, correct?"

Elion gave the man a measured look, tilting his head to the side, trying to appear as innocent as possible.

"And what if they are?"

"Listen, kid. Whether you are a member of the Triad Alliance or not, this is no playground for you to bring your... friends and fool around."

The guard waved him away dismissively.

"Go find an inn or something if you want to have fun with your women."

"Hey, now—"

"Oh, it is you..."

Elion was about to say something in his defense when a familiar, soft voice sounded from behind the group.

Everyone glanced back towards the source of the voice. A familiar, cute, petite mage stood there calmly, holding her staff in one hand.

Elion smiled.

"Perfect timing, Maya! These brutes here will not let me inside." Elion complained.

"It is good to see that you finally decided to visit again, Zenovia."

Zenovia returned the smile, though she did not say anything in response.

After that, Maya stepped forward, doing her best to avoid meeting Elion’s gaze. That proved particularly difficult, however, thanks to the sudden, beautiful quality his eyes now possessed.

Regardless, she merely gave him a small nod and told him to follow before turning towards the pair of guards.

"Do not worry. You can let all of them inside."

She glanced briefly towards Elion.

"I believe you will be seeing much more of him in the future, so remember his appearance and name. He will probably become one of our highest-ranked members soon."

The guards frowned, unable to fully believe what they had just heard.

There was no possible way this tall young man was really that powerful.

Still, since Maya was the one who had said it, there was probably some truth behind her words.

’She is probably referring to his future potential,’ one of the guards thought quietly as the group walked past him and entered the building.

That would also explain the trio of women walking with the young man.

It would not be the first time that he would have seen an arrogant, talented youth who had recently been accepted into the alliance trying to flaunt the generous allowance they were awarded to woo beautiful women who were attracted by the prospect of being spoiled by said youth.

Such was life.

The group drew several curious gazes as they crossed the first floor, while Maya was greeted respectfully by more than a few of the people occupying the large open area.

She led them directly towards Marilyn’s office and knocked gently against the wooden frame of the door when they arrived.

"Enter."

The woman’s gentle voice came from the other side of the door a moment later.

Maya turned the handle and stepped inside first.

When Marilyn saw who her student had brought with her, she could not help but smile pleasantly.

"Well, look who it is..." she said. "You finally decided to grace us peasants with your presence?"

The sarcasm in her voice was impossible to miss.
