But Su Zhaozhao had never been one to worry unnecessarily.

Her worry lasted only a moment before she quickly forgot about it.

There was no point in worrying about such things. She could only wait until it actually happened and then figure out how to deal with it.

Su Zhaozhao went to the kitchen and placed the vegetables she’d bought into a basin to wash and soak.

She also took out the meat, cut it up, and marinated it.

She also placed the seasonings on the counter.

Su Zhaozhao entered her space and took out some fresh vegetables and fruits.

Although the plot of black soil wasn’t large, the growing results were first-rate.

By now, Su Zhaozhao had set aside half of the area to raise chickens and ducks.

But because the land was still too small, she couldn’t raise many of them—only four.

Still, that was enough for her.

The space could also process the meat for her as she wished; she could directly take out a chicken that was already butchered.

She took it out from the space and began to make chicken soup.

The water for the soup was the spiritual spring water from her space, to which she added red dates, goji berries, and some medicinal herbs for wellness.

She first brought the soup to a boil over high heat, then turned it down to a low simmer.

Soon, a delectable, sweet aroma filled the entire kitchen.

Su Zhaozhao also took the eggs from her space and put them in the refrigerator.

As for the pork she bought that morning, she didn’t want to make braised pork belly; she’d had more than enough of the kind served in the mess hall.

So she decided to make steamed pork with rice flour instead.

She first washed the meat and cut it into chunks, then added seasonings. It was just that in this era, there wasn’t the dazzling array of seasonings available in modern times.

Even soy sauce was sold in bulk; you had to bring your own bottle to the supply and marketing co-op to get it filled.

There was no distinction between light and dark soy sauce, either. But that didn’t matter; her space had everything.

She simply took seasonings from her space to marinate the pork. Then she took out some sweet potatoes, washed and sliced them, and seasoned them with salt.

She planned to arrange them under the steamed pork later.

Once the pork was marinated, she coated it with the rice flour for steaming, placed the meat on top of the sweet potatoes, set it all in the steamer, put on the lid, and started steaming.

The chicken was stewing, and the pork was steaming.

With both burners occupied, Su Zhaozhao couldn’t cook anything else on the stove for now.

So she could only prepare a cold dish first. She made a smashed cucumber salad, washing the cucumbers, smashing them with the back of her knife, cutting them into small pieces, and sprinkling them with salt to marinate.

Then she prepared the dressing, drizzled it over the cucumbers, sealed the bowl with plastic wrap, and placed it in the refrigerator to chill.

After finishing that, Su Zhaozhao prepared to make stir-fried tomato and egg.

It was one of her favorite dishes, as it was especially good with rice and perfect for mixing in.

Lastly, she would stir-fry a vegetable dish.

Su Zhaozhao was quite satisfied with the lunch she had prepared. Five dishes for two people was a rather lavish spread.

But since Xie Huaizheng had to train regularly, his food intake was definitely higher than an average person’s. So, she was confident he could finish all these dishes.

By now, the chicken soup was ready.

Su Zhaozhao was just waiting for Xie Huaizheng to come home so she could finish up the dishes.

She glanced at the time; it would be soon.

After his training ended, Xie Huaizheng returned home.

The moment he opened the door, he saw her bustling figure in the kitchen, hair tied in a ponytail and an apron on.

Though he could only see her back, a warmth spread through Xie Huaizheng’s chest, coursing through his entire body.

The fragrant aroma of food filled his nose, and before his eyes was the busy figure of his girl.

’One house, two people, three meals a day, through all four seasons... so this is what it feels like.’

He was no longer the man he used to be, training alone, eating in the mess hall, and then returning to his dorm to rest.

He now had his own home, and his own girl.

She would be at home, cooking and waiting for him.

Xie Huaizheng put his things down and walked toward the kitchen.

At that moment, Su Zhaozhao was stir-frying the last vegetable dish. Hearing the noise behind her, she didn’t turn her head.

"You’re back, honey? Go sit down and rest. I’ll be done with this dish in a moment."

However, she didn’t hear a response from Xie Huaizheng, only the sound of his footsteps drawing closer.

Su Zhaozhao didn’t say anything and just continued to stir the napa cabbage in the wok.

’This cabbage isn’t nearly as good as the ones I grow in my space.’

’But what can I do? I can’t just openly take out vegetables from my space. It would be too weird to go to the market and not buy anything.’

’I can only sneak some in, mixing the vegetables from my space with the ones from the market. That way, no one can tell the difference.’

Su Zhaozhao simply stir-fried the cabbage, adding some water to let it simmer, making it light and refreshing to cut through the richness of the other dishes.

But still, no sound came from behind her. Su Zhaozhao subconsciously started to turn around to look.

But the next moment, she was pulled firmly into Xie Huaizheng’s arms.

He hugged her from behind.

His arms wrapped around her waist, holding her tight.

Su Zhaozhao’s back fell against his solid chest, and the impact left her in a daze for a moment.

He had effortlessly scooped her into his embrace.

Then, he buried his head in the crook of her neck, his every breath filled with the elegant jasmine scent on her skin.

The girl’s skin was so delicate, her hair so soft. Nuzzling against her was like nuzzling a little kitten.

Xie Huaizheng couldn’t stop himself from nuzzling her neck again.

Su Zhaozhao couldn’t help but pat his head. The man’s crew cut was short and coarse, completely different from her own hair.

It felt like petting a hedgehog.

"Alright, alright, let go of me. The food’s going to burn."

Su Zhaozhao tried to push Xie Huaizheng away and went back to stirring the vegetables in the wok.

Xie Huaizheng smiled, watching as Su Zhaozhao skillfully stir-fried the vegetables.

’If I could see myself right now, I’d probably look like a goofy idiot, wouldn’t I?’

’But so what?’

He couldn’t help but touch his nose. At this very moment, he felt like the happiest man in the world.

Just as he was thinking this, Su Zhaozhao turned and ladled a small bowl of soup for him. "Try this soup. What do you think? Does it need a little more salt?"

The rich chicken soup was bursting with aroma.

Xie Huaizheng hadn’t been that hungry before, but smelling this, he suddenly felt famished.

He took a sip. The flavor was rich, the broth savory with a hint of sweetness, and utterly delicious.

It was the first time Xie Huaizheng had ever tasted such a delicious chicken soup, and he couldn’t help but narrow his eyes in pleasure.

’How can it be this good?’

"How is it? Does it need more salt?" The girl’s large, dark eyes were fixed on him, as if she were earnestly awaiting his answer.

Xie Huaizheng immediately said, "It’s perfect. It’s so good, I want more already."

"Just a moment. I’ll be done as soon as I finish this vegetable dish."

Once the napa cabbage was cooked, Su Zhaozhao turned off the heat and transferred it to a plate.

Xie Huaizheng immediately and eagerly helped carry the dishes, serve the rice, and get the chopsticks.

Looking at the table full of dishes, which were perfect in color, aroma, and flavor, Xie Huaizheng’s thin lips curled into a smile that he couldn’t contain.

’This is the first meal my wife has prepared for me. I can barely bring myself to eat it.’

Su Zhaozhao saw Xie Huaizheng staring at the table in a daze, and she had no idea what he was thinking to make him so happy.

’It’s just a few dishes, after all.’

She picked up her chopsticks and placed a piece of the steamed pork in Xie Huaizheng’s bowl. "Try this steamed pork with rice flour. I don’t know if you’ve had it before."
