The dagger flashed toward Kael's throat.
Kael smiled.
He had already seen it.
Mirage Step.
His body shifted sharply to the right.
The dagger passed through empty air.
The dagger hunter's eyes widened.
Kael's foot touched the ground.
His body immediately cut in the opposite direction.
He appeared beside the hunter.
The dagger hunter reacted quickly.
He twisted around and brought his second dagger across.
Kael's sword came down.
CLANG!
The first strike of Ripple Slash slammed against the dagger.
The force drove the hunter's arm downward.
But he held.
His teeth clenched as he pushed the blade away.
Kael's eyes remained on him.
The hunter thought he had stopped the attack.
Then Kael's sword moved again.
The second strike came from the opposite direction.
SHING!
The dagger hunter's eyes widened.
He tried to raise his other dagger.
He was too late.
The blade cut across his chest.
Blood sprayed across the ground.
The hunter stumbled backward.
His hand went to the wound.
Blood slipped between his fingers.
Kael didn't give him time to recover.
He stepped forward.
The hunter raised both daggers.
Kael's sword was already coming again.
The hunter blocked.
CLANG!
Another strike.
CLANG!
The hunter was driven backward.
His footing became unstable.
He tried to counter with his right dagger.
Kael shifted aside.
The blade missed.
Kael's sword swept toward his ribs.
The hunter twisted away.
The blade cut through his clothing without reaching flesh.
He jumped backward.
His breathing was becoming heavier.
Kael kept advancing.
There was no hesitation in his movements now.
The dagger hunter had lost control of the fight.
Piercing Rain was useless against Mirage Step.
His close-range attacks were being read.
And the axeman was already down.
The hunter glanced toward his partner.
The axeman was still on one knee, barely able to hold himself upright.
The hunter's eyes returned to Kael.
Kael raised his sword.
The dagger hunter knew what was coming.
He tightened his grip and rushed forward.
Both daggers moved at once.
Kael stepped into the attack.
Their weapons collided.
CLANG!
The hunter's left dagger was knocked aside.
Kael's sword immediately followed.
The hunter twisted his body.
The blade missed his heart by inches.
He tried to bring his second dagger toward Kael's stomach.
Kael caught his wrist with his free hand.
For a brief moment, they were locked together.
Kael's sword was already positioned between them.
The dagger hunter's eyes widened.
Kael pulled his sword back.
The next strike was coming.
Then—
BOOM!
A violent force slammed into Kael's blade.
Kael was thrown backward.
His boots dragged across the dirt before he regained his footing.
He stopped.
The dagger hunter remained where he was.
Frozen.
A figure now stood between them.
The boss.
He had finally moved.
Kael's eyes narrowed.
The boss lowered his hand.
The air around him was completely still.
He looked at the dagger hunter first.
Then the axeman.
The axeman was down.
The dagger hunter was bleeding heavily.
The boss's gaze finally settled on Kael.
Kael tightened his grip on his sword.
The boss took one step forward.
The ground beneath his foot cracked.
Kael's expression hardened.
Neither man spoke.
The battlefield fell silent.
