The boss stepped forward.

Kael raised his sword.

Neither waited.

They moved.

CLANG!

Their blades collided.

Kael pushed forward, forcing the boss back a step.

He followed with a slash toward the man's shoulder.

The boss shifted aside.

Kael turned his wrist and attacked again.

The boss blocked.

Kael pressed forward.

Another strike.

Another block.

The boss suddenly lowered his stance.

His grip tightened around his blade.

"Blade Break."

His sword snapped toward Kael's weapon.

CLANG!

The impact violently knocked Kael's sword away from its line.

Kael's arm was dragged to the side.

His chest opened.

The boss stepped in.

Kael barely had time to react.

The blade cut across his side.

SHING!

Kael stumbled back.

Blood soaked into his clothes.

His eyes narrowed.

He looked at his sword.

The boss hadn't tried to overpower him.

He had struck the exact point that disrupted the balance of his blade and forced it away.

Kael raised his sword again.

The boss came forward.

Kael attacked.

CLANG!

The boss's blade met his.

The boss's eyes sharpened.

"Blade Break."

He struck the same point again.

Kael's sword was knocked violently aside.

The opening appeared.

But this time—

Mirage Step.

Kael's body suddenly shifted.

The boss's blade cut through empty space where Kael's chest had been.

Kael appeared several steps away.

His sword was already back in position.

The boss's eyes narrowed.

Kael breathed out slowly.

He had understood it.

The first time, he had allowed the boss to control his sword.

The second time, he had used Mirage Step the moment his blade was knocked aside.

The boss stared at him.

Kael tightened his grip.

The wound on his side was still bleeding.

But his eyes were calm.

He wasn't going to let that technique catch him twice.

The boss raised his sword again.

A faint smile appeared on his face.

"You're learning quickly."

Kael lowered his stance.

"Would be embarrassing if I didn't."

The boss's smile disappeared.

He stepped forward.

Kael stepped forward too.

Their blades met again.

CLANG!
