Kael remained in the clearing.
The forest was finally quiet.
No blades clashing.
No footsteps.
No killing intent.
Nothing.
Kael slowly lowered his sword.
His shoulders relaxed.
For the first time since the fight began, he allowed himself to breathe.
He took a deep breath.
Then another.
The exhaustion finally caught up with him.
Kael looked around the clearing.
Broken trees.
Deep cuts across the ground.
Blood scattered across the dirt.
The remains of the battle were everywhere.
He looked down at his own body.
His clothes were torn.
Several cuts covered his arms and legs.
Nothing serious.
But enough to remind him how close the fight had been.
Kael sat down against a tree.
His sword rested beside him.
He closed his eyes.
For a few moments, he simply stayed there.
The wind moved through the trees.
Leaves rustled softly above him.
Kael opened his eyes.
His gaze fell on his palm.
The black crescent-shaped mark remained there.
Thin branches extended from it toward his wrist.
It looked exactly the same as before.
Yet Kael knew it wasn't.
The moment Blade Lust activated...
The Mark had reacted.
It had absorbed the bloody aura.
And somehow, his body had become sharper.
Kael slowly clenched his fist.
He didn't understand it.
Not yet.
But he wasn't going to force an answer out of it either.
He leaned his head back against the tree.
Another breath left his lungs.
For once, Kael didn't think about fighting.
He simply sat there.
Letting the silence settle around him.
After everything that had happened...
He needed the moment.
And for the first time in a long while—
Kael allowed himself to rest.
Kael remained seated against the tree.
His sword rested beside him.
The forest had finally become quiet.
Kael let out a slow breath.
His eyes grew heavy.
He closed them.
The moment they shut—
The mark on his palm pulsed.
Kael's eyes opened slightly.
The black crescent-shaped mark began to glow faintly.
Thin branches spread from the crescent across his palm.
Then something strange happened.
The cuts covering Kael's body began to close.
The wound on his shoulder sealed first.
Then the cuts across his arms.
The smaller wounds disappeared one after another.
Kael stared at his arm.
He hadn't moved.
He hadn't used any technique.
The Mark was doing it by itself.
The deeper wound across his side slowly pulled together.
The bleeding stopped.
The pain disappeared.
Kael looked down at his palm.
The black mark remained perfectly still.
He flexed his fingers.
Everything felt normal.
Better than normal.
He touched the place where one of the deeper cuts had been.
Nothing.
Not even a scar.
Kael stared at the Mark for several seconds.
Then he leaned his head back against the tree.
A faint smile appeared on his face.
"So you can do that too."
The Mark gave no response.
Kael closed his eyes again.
This time, he didn't fight it.
He simply rested.
