Kael continued through the forest.
The new sword rested at his side.
It felt heavier than his old one.
But the balance was better.
Kael eventually stopped.
He drew it.
SHING!
The blade flashed beneath the sunlight.
He tightened his grip.
Then swung.
WHOOSH!
The sword cut through the air.
Kael's eyes narrowed.
The blade moved differently.
It didn't resist his movements.
He swung again.
Faster.
Then faster.
Kael suddenly stepped forward.
Mirage Step.
His body shifted.
His hand moved toward the hilt.
He drew.
SHING!
The blade flashed forward.
Kael stopped.
He stared at the sword.
That was faster.
Much faster.
He looked at the sheath.
Then at the blade.
The boss had used this sword for years.
Maybe that was why it felt so natural during a draw.
Kael slowly sheathed it.
He tried again.
Mirage Step.
A deceptive movement.
The sword stayed hidden.
Then—
SHING!
A quick draw.
Kael's eyes sharpened.
Again.
Mirage Step.
SHING!
This time, the draw was even faster.
But Kael immediately frowned.
The movement wasn't clean.
His body shifted first.
His hand followed a fraction too late.
He had managed to make the draw faster.
But he hadn't made it seamless.
Kael stood still.
He understood the problem.
Mirage Step created the opening.
Mirage Draw exploited it.
But there was still a gap between the two.
A tiny gap.
Against a weak opponent, it wouldn't matter.
Against someone stronger...
That gap could get him killed.
Kael looked at the sword.
He tightened his grip.
"Then I'll remove it."
He sheathed the blade.
His eyes hardened.
The next step wasn't learning another technique.
It was perfecting the one he already had.
Kael continued walking.
But his mind was already working.
He would have to make Mirage Step and Mirage Draw feel like one movement.
No pause.
No hesitation.
No wasted motion.
And until he achieved it...
He wouldn't consider Mirage Draw complete.
Kael's fingers rested on the hilt as he walked.
For the first time, he wasn't thinking about what technique he could learn next.
He was thinking about how far he could push the one he already possessed.
