Hunt Race

Chapter 115: The Gap

Kael found another open area deeper in the forest.

He stopped.

The new sword rested against his hip.

His eyes remained fixed ahead.

He drew a slow breath.

If Mirage Draw was going to evolve, he needed to understand the flaw.

Kael lowered his stance.

"Mirage Step."

His body shifted.

The deception happened.

His hand moved toward the sword.

SHING!

He drew.

Too slow.

Kael frowned.

Again.

"Mirage Step."

He moved.

This time, his hand reached the hilt earlier.

SHING!

The blade came out faster.

But there was still a pause.

Tiny.

Almost impossible to notice.

Kael noticed it.

He sheathed the sword.

Again.

And again.

And again.

Each attempt became faster.

But the same problem remained.

Mirage Step ended.

Then Mirage Draw began.

There was always that tiny separation.

Kael stood still.

His eyes narrowed.

He wasn't supposed to wait for Mirage Step to finish.

That was the mistake.

The draw had to begin during the step.

Kael placed his hand on the hilt.

He lowered his body.

"Mirage Step."

His movement began.

At the same moment, his fingers moved.

The sword started leaving its sheath before his body completed the deceptive shift.

SHING!

Kael appeared from the movement with the blade already halfway through its arc.

He stopped.

His eyes widened slightly.

That was it.

The two movements hadn't been separate.

For the first time, they had connected.

Kael looked at his sword.

A faint smile appeared.

But he wasn't satisfied.

It was still rough.

His shoulder had moved too early.

His draw angle was slightly off.

The attack would still be readable by someone fast enough.

Kael sheathed the blade.

He understood the path now.

He didn't need another technique.

He needed to erase the gap completely.

Kael raised his eyes.

"Again."

He stepped forward.

The sword remained hidden.

His body shifted.

His fingers moved.

And the blade began to leave the sheath before the deception had even finished.

SHING!

This time—

The movement was cleaner.

Kael stared at the empty space ahead.

He had finally found the next stage.

Not a new technique.

A better Mirage Draw.

And now he knew exactly what he had to master.
