Kael stood in the clearing.
His new sword rested at his side.
He had already mastered Mirage Draw.
The technique was simple.
Mirage Step created the deception.
His sword remained hidden.

Kael stopped.

This time, his fingers moved before his body completed the step.

The blade came out faster.
Kael's eyes narrowed.
Closer.
He tried again.
And again.
Each attempt became smoother.
Then Kael changed his approach.
He stopped thinking about the draw as something that happened after Mirage Step.
The draw had to happen inside Mirage Step.
His body shifted.
His fingers moved.
The sword began leaving the sheath.
All in the same motion.
SHING!
Kael appeared from the deceptive movement with his blade already cutting forward.
He stopped.
Silence.
Kael looked at his sword.
There had been no pause.
No second movement.
No wasted motion.
His eyes sharpened.
This wasn't a different technique.
It was the next stage of Mirage Draw.
Kael tried it again.
"Mirage Step."
SHING!
The blade flashed almost instantly.
He repeated it.
Faster.
Cleaner.
The new sword made the transition even smoother.
Kael slowly lowered the blade.
A faint smile appeared.
"Better."
He had found the direction.
The next evolution of Mirage Draw wouldn't rely on simply becoming faster.
It would erase the moment where an opponent could react.
The deception and the draw would become one movement.
Kael sheathed the sword.
He looked toward the forest ahead.
He still had a long way to push the technique.
But now he knew exactly what he was developing.
