Kael raised his sword.

The beast lowered its body.

They moved at the same time.

The beast dropped onto all fours.

Its hind legs slowly straightened.

Its torso rose.

Its forelegs stretched.

Bones shifted beneath its fur.

The beast's claws remained sharp.

Its dark fur remained across its body.

Its pointed ears remained.

Its tail continued to move behind it.

But the shape of its body was changing.

The transformation continued until the beast stood upright.

It was now almost the same height as Kael.

The silver aura slowly settled around its new form.

The beast looked down at its hands.

It opened and closed its fingers.

Then it moved its shoulders.

Its new body was unfamiliar.

But it adjusted quickly.

Kael watched silently.

The beast lifted its head.

Their eyes met.

Kael's grip tightened around his sword.

The beast stepped forward.

Kael raised his blade.

Its fist came toward him.

CLANG!

Kael blocked.

The impact forced him backward.

He barely regained his footing before the beast stepped forward again.

A second punch came from the side.

Kael twisted away.

The fist missed his chest by inches.

Kael tried to counter.

The beast caught his wrist.

Kael's eyes widened.

The beast pulled him forward.

Kael tried to regain his balance.

Too late.

Its knee drove into his stomach.

BOOM!

Kael's body folded.

Before he could recover, the beast released his wrist and struck him across the ribs.

Kael was thrown sideways.

He crashed into the ground and rolled several meters before stopping.

He tried to push himself up.

Pain tore through his side.

His breathing became heavy.

Kael looked toward the beast.

It stood upright in the middle of the clearing.

Calm.

Watching him.

Kael's hand pressed against his ribs.

For the first time since the fight began...

The beast had landed a serious blow.
