The beast's head hit the ground several meters away, followed by the heavy collapse of its body. For a few seconds, Kael simply stood there with his sword lowered, watching the last traces of the berserk aura disappear into the air.
The clearing was finally silent.
Kael looked at his blade.
The strange blood coating had already disappeared, absorbed back into the Mark. He slowly turned his hand over, staring at the black crescent on his palm.
"Blood Reinforcement..."
The words left his mouth quietly.
He had never learned that technique.
He hadn't practiced it.
Yet the moment the Mark absorbed the second blood, he had somehow understood exactly what to do. There had been no hesitation, no trial and error. It had simply felt natural, as though his body already knew how to use it.
Kael frowned slightly.
That bothered him more than he expected.
He remembered the moment the blood had gathered around his blade, the dark coating forming along the edge before that faint silver tint appeared. He hadn't consciously figured any of it out.
He had simply known.
Kael flexed his fingers.
"Why did that come so easily?"
He stared at the Mark again.
The black crescent remained completely still.
Kael had always known the Mark was strange, but this was different. Healing his wounds was one thing. Drawing blood from his enemies was another.
But now it was doing something he had never been taught.
And somehow, Kael had understood it immediately.
His eyes narrowed.
"Maybe..."
He looked down at his palm.
"It's because of you."
The Mark gave no response.
Kael remained silent for another moment before finally turning toward the beast's corpse.
He crouched beside it and began searching through the remains. His fingers eventually found something hard beneath the beast's chest.
Kael pulled it free.
A small core rested in his palm.
Unlike the cores he had collected before, this one carried a faint silver glow beneath its surface.
A Silver core.
Kael studied it quietly.
After everything that had happened, he couldn't help but feel that this mission had given him far more than he had expected.
He secured the core and stood.
His eyes drifted toward the deeper forest.
For now, he didn't move.
He simply stood in the quiet clearing, sword at his side and the Silver core secured away, while his thoughts remained fixed on the Mark.
Blood Reinforcement had come too naturally.
Almost as if the Mark had been waiting for him to reach that point.
Kael slowly closed his hand over the Mark.
"Whatever you are..."
He looked toward the deeper forest.
"...I'll figure you out eventually."
Then he turned away from the corpse.
The battle was over.
