Hunt Race

Chapter 144: Reading the Flow

The tall hunter's bronze aura suddenly surged.

Instead of charging with his bare hands, he reached behind his back and pulled out a long glaive, the curved blade catching the light as he brought it into position.

The crowd immediately became quieter.

Kael's eyes settled on the weapon.

The hunter rolled the glaive once through his palm before lowering the blade toward Kael.

"Now we'll see if you can still dodge."

He stepped forward.

The glaive swept across the arena with a powerful horizontal slash, the bronze aura coating its edge as it tore toward Kael.

Kael waited until the final moment.

"Mirage Step."

His body shifted away from the blade, allowing it to pass just in front of him.

The hunter immediately changed the direction of the glaive, dragging the weapon around and bringing the blade back toward Kael.

Kael moved again, but this time he didn't retreat.

He stepped inside the glaive's range.

"Ripple Slash."

SHING!

Kael's first slash struck the shaft of the glaive.

CLANG!

The hunter immediately brought the weapon across his body and blocked the second strike as well.

CLANG!

The force pushed his arms backward, but his stance held.

Kael didn't force the exchange.

He stepped away as the hunter rotated the glaive and swept it toward his legs.

Kael jumped over the blade.

The hunter continued the motion, spinning the glaive around his body before bringing it down toward Kael.

Kael shifted aside.

BOOM!

The blade struck the arena floor.

The hunter immediately pulled it free and turned.

Kael was already several steps away.

The hunter's expression became more serious.

He had blocked Ripple Slash cleanly.

Kael smiled faintly.

"So you can defend."

The hunter tightened his grip on the glaive.

"Did you expect otherwise?"

He rushed forward again.

This time, the glaive came from above.

Kael raised his sword.

CLANG!

The weapons collided.

The hunter pushed down with the full weight of the weapon, trying to force Kael backward.

Kael held the blade against the glaive for a moment before sliding his sword along the shaft and stepping away.

The hunter immediately followed with a sweeping strike.

Kael used Mirage Step again, slipping outside the blade's range before answering with another Ripple Slash.

SHING!

The first strike was blocked.

The second was blocked as well.

CLANG! CLANG!

The hunter's glaive remained between them, his defense holding firm.

Neither attack drew blood.

Kael lowered his sword slightly.

The hunter raised his glaive.

The exchange had only just begun.
