"Phantom Edge."
SHING!
The blade flashed across the hunter's side.
This time, it connected.
A clean line opened across his ribs, and blood immediately seeped through his clothes.
The hunter stumbled back and looked down at the wound.
Kael remained still.
For a moment, nothing happened.
Then the black crescent on his palm pulsed.
Kael's fingers twitched.
Something had changed.
He could feel the hunter.
Not through his eyes.
Not through sound.
It was something deeper.
A faint connection stretched between them, almost like an invisible thread tied to the blood on the hunter's body.
Kael's eyes narrowed.
Through that connection, he could sense things he shouldn't have been able to sense.
The rhythm of the hunter's breathing.
The tension in his muscles.
The energy moving through his body.
And somehow...
Kael knew he could interfere with it.
The hunter suddenly raised his glaive.
"Don't think one cut is enough!"
He charged.
The weapon came sweeping toward Kael's chest.
Kael shifted aside.
The blade passed close enough to stir his clothes.
The hunter immediately turned and brought it back from the opposite direction.
Kael stepped away.
Another swing followed.
Kael moved again.
The hunter continued pressing forward, his glaive cutting through the air in heavy arcs as he tried to trap Kael against the edge of the arena.
Kael avoided every attack.
But his attention wasn't completely on the weapon anymore.
That strange connection was still there.
He could feel something within the hunter.
Something he could pull away.
Kael's gaze sharpened.
What should he take?
His strength?
No.
That wasn't what he needed.
He focused on the hunter's movements.
Then he felt it.
The force behind his steps.
The burst that carried his body forward.
The reserve that allowed him to keep attacking without slowing down.
Speed.
Stamina.
Kael made his choice.
The black crescent pulsed.
The invisible connection tightened.
For the briefest moment, Kael felt something being drawn through it.
The hunter's next step landed differently.
His glaive came around—
but not with the same sharpness as before.
The hunter frowned.
He immediately tried to accelerate into another strike.
His foot slammed against the ground.
His body surged forward.
Then, halfway through the movement, his momentum seemed to fall short.
His eyes widened slightly.
"What...?"
He forced himself forward and swung again.
Kael simply stepped away.
The hunter followed.
One step.
Then another.
His breathing was already becoming rougher.
He tightened his grip on the glaive and pushed harder, but each movement seemed to demand more from him than it had moments ago.
Kael watched silently.
The hunter tried to increase his pace again.
His first step came quickly.
The second wasn't as sharp.
By the third, his breathing had grown noticeably heavier.
Kael felt the connection pulse beneath his palm.
Now he understood.
A faint smile appeared on his face.
He hadn't merely drawn blood.
He had taken something with it.
