The beast stood across the clearing, its remaining arm hanging at its side as blood continued dripping from the stump. Kael was barely standing himself, his breathing heavy while the wounds across his body slowly began to close. Neither of them moved for several seconds before the beast suddenly lowered its body and charged.
Kael sensed its mana shift and raised his sword just before the claw arrived.
CLANG!
The impact shook his arms, forcing him backward as the beast pressed forward with its remaining strength. Kael turned his blade and redirected the claw, but the creature immediately twisted and attacked again. Kael slipped aside, allowing the strike to pass his ribs before stepping away and creating a few meters of distance.
The beast came again.
Kael sensed the movement through its mana and prepared his defense, catching the claw before it reached him. The creature pushed against his blade, then suddenly changed its angle. Kael twisted his wrist and redirected the attack, but the force still drove him backward.
He couldn't afford to trade blows.
The beast was still too strong.
Kael used Mirage Step, disappearing from its front and reappearing at its flank, but the creature turned almost immediately. Its remaining claw swept toward him, forcing Kael to duck beneath it before retreating several steps.
His breathing grew heavier.
The beast rushed again.
Kael blocked.
CLANG!
Another strike followed.
He shifted.
The claw passed over his shoulder.
Kael turned his body and tried to counter, but the beast pulled away before his sword could connect cleanly.
They separated.
Kael stared at the creature.
The blood connection was still there.
He could feel the beast through it.
The Mark pulsed.
Kael's fingers tightened around his sword as something deeper within the connection caught his attention. He reached toward it instinctively, not knowing exactly what he was touching.
The resistance came immediately.
It felt different from the struggle over blood.
Kael pushed.
The black crescent pulsed again.
Something slipped through the connection.
The beast suddenly staggered.
Its remaining hand went toward the wound across its chest.
The flesh around the cut twitched.
For a moment, it began to close.
Then it slowed.
The beast stared down.
Blood continued running between its fingers.
Kael said nothing.
The beast's expression hardened and it forced itself forward again.
Kael raised his sword.
CLANG!
The claw struck.
Kael redirected it and stepped around the creature, but the beast turned with him and attacked again. Kael sensed the movement and blocked, yet the force still pushed him backward.
The beast wasn't slowing down.
Kael slipped away with Mirage Step.
The creature followed.
Kael appeared several meters away and immediately sensed another attack coming.
He raised his sword.
CLANG!
The impact forced him to slide backward.
His shoulder burned.
The beast pressed forward, refusing to give him space.
Kael blocked another strike, then another, each impact sending pain through his already battered body. His wounds were still healing, but slowly, and he couldn't keep absorbing this kind of pressure.
The beast swung again.
Kael ducked beneath the claw and moved around its side, his sword flashing toward its ribs.
SHING!
The blade connected.
A cut opened.
The beast staggered away.
Kael expected the wound to disappear.
It didn't.
The beast turned toward him, blood running down its side.
It pressed its remaining hand against the wound.
The flesh twitched.
It began closing.
Slowly.
Much slower than before.
The beast's eyes narrowed.
Kael remained still.
The Mark pulsed once beneath his palm.
The creature suddenly charged again.
Kael sensed the attack and raised his sword.
CLANG!
The claw crashed against the blade.
Kael was driven backward, his boots scraping across the ground as the beast continued pushing. He twisted his sword and forced the claw away, but the creature immediately swung again.
Kael shifted.
The claw passed his face.
He stepped inside the creature's reach and swung.
The beast twisted away.
The blade only grazed its side.
Another wound opened.
Blood spilled.
The beast retreated several steps.
Its breathing had become heavier.
But it was still standing.
Still dangerous.
Kael lowered his sword slightly as he watched the creature.
The beast looked down at its wounds.
None of them were closing like they had before.
But that didn't stop it from fighting.
It raised its remaining claw.
Its Silver aura gathered around its body.
Kael tightened his grip.
