The tall man ignored Kael completely and turned his attention toward Cherry.
“You brought a Bronze Rank?” he asked, his voice carrying a hint of displeasure. “Do you think this is an excursion?”
Cherry remained calm. “He'll be useful.”
The man glanced at Kael for the first time, briefly looking him over before turning back to Cherry.
“Explain to me how exactly a Bronze Rank will be useful?” the man said with displeasure.
Cherry turned to him with a serious expression. “I said he'll be useful, and that is enough.”
The man didn't back down. “We're talking about my safety here. You brought an extra person who might possibly be dead weight for the one I'm trusting to protect me?”
Cherry stared into his eyes. “It's precisely because it's your safety and this mission that you're fortunate enough to talk to me. Question me again, and you'll have to protect your sorry ass yourself.”
The man frowned slightly but didn't argue further.
Kael finally spoke. “You guys are talking like I'm not here.”
They both ignored him.
Cherry crossed her arms. “Are we leaving, or are you planning to stand here all day?”
The man sighed.
“Fine. Let's go.”
Kael looked between the two of them, still trying to figure out exactly what he had gotten himself into.
“Will someone tell me where we're going?” Kael asked while rolling his eyes.
Cherry finally turned to him. “We're going to escort this young man to a neighboring guild. Have you ever been to another guild?”
“No,” Kael replied.
“Wow. You brought a Bronze Rank and a rookie as well,” the tall man said while laughing.
“Well, there is a first time for everything. We can as well start going,” Cherry said with a shrug.
They made the final preparations and started moving.
Far behind them, two figures emerged from the shadows.
They remained motionless for a moment, watching the three hunters disappear down the road.
One of them pulled his hood over his head and looked toward the other.
“Should we engage?”
The other shadow shook his head.
“No. Let's test them with some paid bandits first.”
The first shadow nodded.
“That's better. We can see their techniques beforehand. An Elite Silver, a Silver, and a Bronze Rank.”
“Exactly.”
The other shadow turned away.
“Okay. I'll go get the bandits.”
He disappeared into the forest, leaving the remaining shadow alone.
His gaze stayed fixed on the distant figures.
“Let's see what you're capable of.”
