Hunt Race

Chapter 8: The Awakening

"A power hidden for too long does not awaken quietly."

The forest stood still.

The beast stared at Kael.

For the first time since it appeared...

It hesitated.

Kael noticed.

The creature that had attacked without fear...

Was now watching him carefully.

Kael looked at his hand.

The mark continued glowing faintly.

"What is this?"

Darius didn't answer.

His eyes remained fixed on the symbol.

"Kael."

His voice was serious.

"Do not let it control you."

Kael looked at him.

"Control me?"

Before Darius could explain—

The beast roared.

The sound shook the entire forest.

It charged again.

This time...

Not with anger.

With desperation.

Like it wanted to destroy something before it could awaken.

Kael raised his spear.

His body moved before he could think.

Not faster.

Not stronger.

Just...

Different.

He barely managed to block the attack.

The force sent him sliding backward.

His feet carved through the ground.

Pain shot through his arms.

Kael gritted his teeth.

He was holding it back...

But barely.

The beast pushed harder.

His spear began to crack.

Everyone watched in shock.

Kael was struggling.

The mark was reacting...

But it wasn't saving him.

It wasn't giving him some overwhelming power.

It was only responding.

Kael pushed back with everything he had.

Then—

The beast pulled away.

Its eyes narrowed.

It attacked again.

Too fast.

Kael saw it coming.

But his body couldn't keep up.

The claw was inches away.

Then—

CLANG!

A massive sword blocked the attack.

Darius stood between them.

The force of the impact shook the entire forest.

But Darius didn't move.

Not even an inch.

He glanced back at Kael.

"Kid..."

"You're trying to fight something you don't understand."

Kael looked at his hand.

The mark was still glowing.

"I know."

His eyes hardened.

"But I'm not going to run from it."

For a moment...

Darius said nothing.

Then he looked back at the mark.

His expression changed.

Not fear.

Concern.

"Whatever that is..."

He tightened his grip on his sword.

"You need to learn to control it."

A pause.

"Before it controls you."

The beast slowly stepped back.

Still watching Kael.

Kael looked down at his hand.

The glow slowly faded.

He closed his fist.

Whatever this mark was...

Whatever it meant...

He would find out.

But first...

He had to survive.
