The Alpha never slowed.
Its heavy footsteps echoed through the forest.
Step.
Step.
Step.
Each one drew closer.
Leon glanced back once.
"...It's gaining."
Kael didn't answer.
He was already pushing his body to its limit.
Branches whipped across his face.
Roots crisscrossed the forest floor.
One wrong step...
And he was dead.
Another deafening roar rolled through the forest.
The trees trembled.
Leaves rained from above.
The Alpha didn't even spare it a glance.
Its emerald eyes remained fixed on the two hunters.
"It ignored it..." Kael muttered.
Leon gritted his teeth.
"It wants revenge."
The distance closed again.
Twenty meters.
Fifteen.
Twelve.
Leon suddenly changed direction.
"Right!"
Kael immediately followed.
The Alpha mirrored the movement without losing speed.
Its massive body slipped between the trees effortlessly.
Like it had hunted this forest countless times.
"Damn..."
Leon cursed.
"It isn't giving us anything."
A massive root rose from the ground.
Kael jumped over it.
Leon did the same.
The Alpha simply crushed it beneath its paws.
Boom!
Splinters and dirt exploded into the air.
Kael looked back for only a second.
That single glance nearly cost him.
A low branch rushed toward his face.
He ducked at the last moment.
His footing faltered.
The Alpha instantly accelerated.
"Kael!"
Leon grabbed his arm and yanked him forward.
A claw swept through the space Kael had occupied a heartbeat earlier.
Slash!
The tree beside them split cleanly in half.
Cold sweat rolled down Kael's back.
That wasn't an attack meant to scare him.
The Alpha had intended to kill.
Another roar echoed.
Closer.
This time the ground shook hard enough to throw small stones into the air.
Even Leon's expression changed.
"We're getting deeper."
Kael frowned.
"Into what?"
"I don't know..."
"And I don't want to find out."
The forest ahead became darker.
The trees were thicker.
Older.
Even the air felt heavier.
Behind them...
The Alpha continued its relentless pursuit.
It neither tired nor hesitated.
It simply kept coming.
Kael clenched his jaw.
Running wasn't working.
Every obstacle slowed them.
None slowed the Alpha.
Every second...
The distance grew smaller.
Ten meters.
Eight.
Six.
Kael looked at the spear in Leon's hand.
Then at his own sword.
His eyes suddenly lit up.
An idea formed.
He turned toward Leon.
"...I have a plan."
