Chapter 153: Fighting The Water Mage

Chapter 153: Chapter 153: Fighting The Water Mage

Clara froze every water construct the mage attempted to form — ice spreading across liquid surfaces, crystallizing them mid-attack, shattering the formations before they could be launched. Crack-crack-crack. The water mage’s casual expression tightened.

Rose blocked every counterattack — Aegis barriers layered so densely that the clearing filled with translucent green domes, each one absorbing a water blade or a pressure burst, Rose retreating and rebuilding faster than the mage could destroy.

Nadia sprinted between positions, slapping enhancement onto whoever needed it most — a tap on Wei Chen’s shoulder as he charged, a hand on Bruno’s back as he recovered, a full-body boost on Sarah as the seismic user prepared another quake. Her stamina was draining fast, but the constant rotation of enhancements kept everyone operating above their normal limits.

Sarah never stopped moving. Quakes erupted beneath the water mage’s feet — disrupting her footing, preventing her from standing still, forcing her to constantly adjust her position. She couldn’t form stable constructs if the ground beneath her kept heaving.

Mickey fought alongside Clara at range. He’d copied her Gravity Manipulation before they came here, and together, their combined gravitational control was devastating. Dual gravity lenses compressed space from different angles. Gravity wells opened beneath the water mage’s feet, trying to pin her. Gravitational slingshots launched debris — rocks, root chunks, shattered ice — at near-bullet speeds.

The water mage deflected, dissolved, reformed. But the constant multi-directional assault was forcing her to split her attention three ways: the fight, the plant, and her own positioning.

Wei Chen and Bruno pushed the close-quarters advantage.

Wei Chen moved like a demon. Sword Spirit blazed at maximum output, Celestial Severance forms chaining into each other — Starfall into Falling Stars into Heaven’s Divide, each slash faster and more refined than the last. He couldn’t hurt her — she was too fast, too skilled — but he forced her to dedicate attention to defense.

Bruno flanked with Martial King Fist Art — not the explosive forms, the setup forms. Iron King’s Foundation absorbed a water tentacle that would have taken Lucian’s head off, the kinetic energy stored and redirected into a short-range counter that cracked the water construct like glass. He followed with Tremor King’s Impact aimed at the mage’s knee — she dissolved before it landed, but the shockwave disrupted the water around her reformation point, forcing her to appear in a suboptimal position.

Lucian waited.

He used Light Weaving for defense — shields, walls, redirecting barriers — and Blood Sense to track every movement the water mage made. He was looking for the opening. The single moment when her attention split too far from the fight and toward the plant.

There.

The plant creature pulsed — a massive throb of green light — and the water mage’s eyes flickered toward it for half a second.

Lucian moved.

"Light Judgement!"

A sustained beam of pure light erupted from his palm, not aimed at the water mage but at the space between her and the plant — cutting her line of sight, forcing her to either block or lose visual on the creature she was protecting.

She blocked. A water wall absorbed the beam. But the block put her back three steps — away from the plant’s center.

Clara saw it. "Now!"

"Gravity Lens — Maximum Output!"

Clara and Mickey combined their gravity powers into a single point directly above the plant creature — not compressing the creature itself, but creating a gravity well so dense above it that the upward-rising plague mist was pulled back down, crushing the creature under the weight of its own toxic output.

The plant creature screamed — a sound like tearing wood mixed with wet gurgling — and its leaves curled inward, protecting the crown.

The controller beside the plant reacted. Roots erupted from the ground around Clara and Mickey — thick, thorned, moving fast.

The two Peak Core officers engaged him.

"Keep him busy!" the spear-woman shouted, driving her weapon through a root that had nearly impaled her. The axe-man swung wide, severing roots at the base before they could fully extend.

The controller was Peak Core Realm but his ability was plant manipulation — and they were in a forest. Roots erupted from every direction. Vines constricted. Thorned branches lashed out like whips. The ground itself became a weapon.

The officers struggled. But they pressed the advantage — two Peak Cores against one Peak Core whose element surrounded them on all sides.

The water mage’s head snapped between the fight and the plant. Her composure cracked.

"Enough."

She raised both hands above her head. The air screamed — every molecule of moisture within a fifty-meter radius condensed, compressed, and launched outward in a single catastrophic wave.

"Tidal Wave."

BOOOOOOOOM.

The wall of water hit the group like a freight train made of liquid steel. No defense could fully stop it — the sheer mass and force were beyond what Core Realm students could block.

Rose screamed — "Aegis — Bubble Shield!"

She slapped bubble shields onto Wei Chen, Bruno, and Nadia in the half-second before impact. The shields absorbed the worst of the wave — the three of them were launched backward but survived, crashing through trees and rolling across the forest floor.

Mickey grabbed Clara’s arm. "Gravity push — now!"

Clara activated Gravity Push simultaneously with Mickey — a combined gravitational repulsion that fought against the tidal wave’s momentum. It wasn’t enough to stop it, but it slowed their bodies enough that they were pushed rather than crushed, skidding across the wet ground instead of being slammed through trees.

Lucian took the wave head-on.

He’d been too far from Rose when she cast the bubble shields. The tidal wave hit him at full force — BOOM — and he crashed back-first into a tree trunk. The impact cracked the wood. Pain flared across his back and shoulders. His vision blurred for a second.

Eternal Regeneration kicked in immediately. The wounds began closing.

Rose appeared beside him, green eyes wide with panic. "Lucian — I’m sorry, I couldn’t—"

Lucian pushed himself upright, rolling his shoulders. The cracks in the tree behind him were still settling.

"Don’t worry," he said. "It’s already healing."
