The scent of camphor and bitter herbs filled the recovery ward. Outside, the emergency bells had finally stopped.

Bai Qingxian dried her hands on a silk cloth as she walked out from behind the wooden screen, offering a calm nod to Su Ming and Peak Master Jian Wufeng.

"He is out of danger," Bai Qingxian said. "His soul has stabilized, and the demonic poison is gone. Master Physician Song is monitoring him now. His foundation remains intact."

Jian Wufeng let out a slow breath. "Good."

Bai Qingxian gave Su Ming a quiet look before walking down the corridor to assist the deacons.

Once she left, Jian Wufeng turned to Su Ming. The tired sword master stood with his hands tucked in his sleeves, his sharp aura slightly dimmed.

"Years ago, I cut my ties from mortal life to walk the path of the sword," Jian Wufeng said, his voice low. "I resolved to let my blade be my only companion. Yet, the blood ties still remain. Jian Wushen is the last of my blood, my disciple, and the last of my family. I owe you his life. Thank you."

Su Ming kept his hands in his sleeves. "We are of the same sect, Peak Master Jian, and we are brothers. It was only right."

Jian Wufeng nodded slightly.

"But prepare yourself, Peak Master Su. The sect will soon be in turmoil."

"Is it to capture the remnants of the demonic sect?" Su Ming asked.

Jian Wufeng let out a dry laugh, looking out the window. "Capture? Forget about capturing them. The Sect Master will not stop until the Nine Shadows are burned to ash."

Su Ming fell silent. "Before he detonated, he mentioned the Devil of Lightning. Who is that?"

Jian Wufeng stared in surprise. Noticing the calm curiosity of Su Ming, the sword master sighed.

"That name has not been spoken in three hundred years," Jian Wufeng said. "It was born when the Nine Shadows Sect was first hunted down. Our Sect Master led the expedition to destroy them. To those demonic forces, he became the Devil of Lightning."

Deep within a secret underground chamber of the Heavenly Cloud Sect, a massive stone wall was just reduced to a heap of dust.

Sect Master Jun Tianya stood before the ruins, his robes ruffled. Violet lightning crackled wildly across his fingers and the floor. His usual calm and aloof expression was gone, replaced by a cold glare.

Kneeling in front of him were Elder Wei and three select members of the Shadow Squad. The pressure made the walls creak.

"How?" Jun Tianya’s voice was quiet. "Why did the Shadow Squad fail to pick up even a single trace of this?"

Elder Wei lowered his head. "This subordinate accepts responsibility. The Demonic Ancestor Mo used some forbidden technique to possess Elder Cang’s body to infiltrate the sect without detection. His soul flame remained faint but active. Our arrays could not detect the change."

"An inner elder of the Sword Peak was possessed for a year," Jun Tianya said, the lightning on his hands flaring. "Dozens of disciples branded with a demonic seal right under our noses. If they had not been exposed today by Elder Su, how long would we have remained blind?"

The select squad members trembled under the physical suppression of a Saint Essence powerhouse.

Jun Tianya closed his eyes, reining the lightning back into his body. When he opened them, the anger was replaced by a cold focus.

"Go," Jun Tianya commanded. "I do not want excuses. I want information. Hunt down every lead those bastards left. Find where they are hiding."

"Understood," Elder Wei whispered. The black-robed figures vanished into the shadows.

Within the Heavenly Dao Hall, a column of silver light flared on the teleportation circle. Illusion Peak Master Yue Lihua stepped forward, her long purple robes drifting.

Jian Wufeng and Elder Yuan, a senior advisor of the Heavenly Dao Hall, were waiting near the central altar.

Yue Lihua approached the Sect Master and bowed. "I received your message, Sect Master. I have come."

Jun Tianya descended the steps. "Junior Sister Yue, I ask this not as the leader of this sect, but as your senior brother. Please use your Heavenly Eyes."

Jian Wufeng’s eyes widened in horror. "Sect Master, please reconsider! The backlash will be too severe."

Elder Yuan stepped forward. "Peak Master Yue has not yet ascended to the Saint Realm. Her Heavenly Eyes remain unmastered. Forcing them will put a great amount of strain on her and damage her soul sea. We should wait till she breaks through. It should not take more than five years, and we can provide sacred pills and elixirs to shorten that time."

Yue Lihua looked at the two men, her eyes carrying determination.

"Five years is too long," Yue Lihua said, her voice calm but firm. "In five years, the seeds Demonic Ancestor Mo planted will have grown into a forest. If we wait, there may not be a sect left to protect. I will perform the divination today."

The air inside the secret hall was heavy. The stone floor was carved with dense, glowing runic formations. In the center, on a stone altar, lay the bloodied, charred remains of Elder Cang Yun.

Hovering above the altar was a large geographical map of the continent, glowing with a faint golden light.

Yue Lihua sat cross-legged before the remains, with three senior female elders of the Illusion Moon Peak placing their palms against her back to share the burden.

Yue Lihua closed her eyes, then opened them. Her pupils transformed into a constantly shifting infinite kaleidoscope of silver and violet light, piercing directly into the Realm of Possibilities.

As the boundary between certainty and uncertainty blurred, Yue Lihua wove complex seals, sending a silver thread of soul energy into the remains.

The map hovering in the air suddenly hummed. Thousands of shifting red markers lit up across the blue landscape, indicating the possibilities of where the Nine Shadows Sect bases could exist.

’Focus,’ Yue Lihua whispered.

She pushed her soul force deeper, forcing the web of possibilities to narrow. The physical burden of this hit her like a physical blow. Drops of blood leaked from her eyes like tears, rolling down her cheek.

Behind her, the three elders groaned as they shared the initial wave of backlash.

On the map, hundreds of red markers began to rapidly vanish.

"More," Yue Lihua gasped. Her vision expanded. She took another step, forcing the paths to collapse further. The red markers dropped to around one hundred. It was still too broad.
