“You’re beautiful too, Senior Sister,” Tantai Yaoyue replied, feeling slightly embarrassed by the praise.
The two women exchanged a soft smile, and for a while, they simply complimented each other back and forth with laughter between them.
Eventually, Song Zhihui’s gaze shifted toward the young man beside Tantai Yaoyue. Her eyes lingered on him for a moment before she asked with mild curiosity, “Senior Sister, who’s this? Your younger brother?”
Tantai Yaoyue nodded slightly and said, “This is my younger brother, Wang Haoran.”
Song Zhihui gave a polite nod in acknowledgment but didn’t greet Wang Haoran directly. Instead, she acted like they were strangers, as if they hadn’t already met.
“You two aren’t blood-related, right?” she asked curiously.
Just yesterday, she attended Zhen Li’s birthday banquet—Wang Haoran’s mother—and hadn’t seen Tantai Yaoyue anywhere at the event. If they truly were siblings, Yaoyue would have certainly been there. Not to mention, their last names weren’t the same.
“We’re not related by blood,” Tantai Yaoyue admitted with calm composure.
“But our bond is just like real siblings,” Wang Haoran added from the side, a casual smile playing on his lips.
Song Zhihui believed him, and with that simple explanation, her attitude toward Tantai Yaoyue became even warmer.
“Come, Junior Sister, sit next to me,” she said with enthusiasm, pulling Yaoyue gently over to the seat beside her and grasping her hand with genuine affection.
Wang Haoran took the seat on the other side of Yaoyue, placing himself beside her naturally.
Before long, the dishes began arriving one after another, each one exquisitely plated and steaming with rich, intoxicating aromas. The room filled with the scent of masterful cuisine, and even before tasting it, everyone at the table—Yaoyue, Zhihui, Feng Anna, and even Wang Haoran—felt their appetites awaken.
“This must be Master’s handiwork,” Song Zhihui said with certainty.
As a culinary expert herself, just the scent and presentation were enough for her to judge the skill level behind each dish. There was no way the hotel’s head chef had made these. No ordinary five-star kitchen could craft something so flawless in both flavor and form.
And since Qin Fan hadn’t shown himself yet, the answer was obvious.
The table had already been set, and everyone found themselves itching to dig in. Tantai Yaoyue was the first to reach for her chopsticks, the temptation too great to ignore.
But before she could grab a bite, Wang Haoran leaned closer and stopped her gently. “Sister, wait a second.”
He feared the food might turn her stomach, especially if it was made by Qin Fan. That would be a disaster.
Hearing his voice, Yaoyue paused mid-motion and set her chopsticks down again. She realized not everyone had arrived yet, and it would be rude to eat before the host.
She suppressed her craving and waited.
A few moments later, the final dishes were placed on the table, and Qin Fan himself walked into the private room.
He greeted Yaoyue, Zhihui, and Anna one by one, but when his gaze landed on the unfamiliar beauty in the room—Zhihui’s best friend—his eyes lit up slightly. Just as he suspected, the girl was stunning.
Still, he merely admired her with his eyes.
After all, Tantai Yaoyue remained his top priority. He hadn’t even won her over yet, so it would be foolish to let himself get distracted by another woman. Especially with Yaoyue right there—it wouldn’t look good.
He swept his gaze across the room, trying to find a way to sit next to her. But with Song Zhihui on one side and Wang Haoran on the other, both seats were already taken.
With everyone settled in, it wasn’t appropriate to ask anyone to switch places.
That left him with only two options: sit beside Feng Anna or beside Wang Haoran.
After thinking it over, Qin Fan chose the latter. He wasn’t ready to make moves on Feng Anna just yet, so there was no need to show unnecessary interest.
“Now that everyone’s here, can we start eating?” Yaoyue asked eagerly, her tone laced with anticipation.
“No rush,” Qin Fan raised a hand with a small smile, pointing at one of the dishes on the table. “Why don’t you all try to guess the name of this dish first?”
Wang Haoran stayed silent, letting the man have his moment for now. He watched with amusement, hiding a cold smirk.
The three women turned their attention toward the dish Qin Fan indicated.
The plating was exquisite. Shells shaped like elegant cups lined the edge of the plate, each one filled with a clear broth that released gentle wisps of steam. The fragrance alone was enough to make one’s mouth water. At the center of the plate sat a round, finely minced seafood ball, surrounded by vegetables of several vibrant colors, carefully arranged as garnish.
Feng Anna remained quiet. She still felt slightly restrained since she didn’t know Qin Fan or Yaoyue, and Wang Haoran’s presence made her even more cautious.
Song Zhihui, however, studied the dish with interest. After a moment of thought, she ventured a guess. “Starlight Encircling the Moon?”
Qin Fan chuckled and shook his head. Then, his eyes lingered briefly on Tantai Yaoyue before revealing the answer with a smile. “The dish is called ‘Raising a Cup to Invite the Bright Moon.’”
“What a poetic name. As expected of Master,” Song Zhihui praised with genuine admiration.
Tantai Yaoyue blinked in surprise. The name of the dish contained the characters “Yao” and “Yue”—her given name, which meant “moon.” She wasn’t sure if it was just a poetic coincidence, but it caught her off guard.
Still, she didn’t read too deeply into it. It could just be a coincidence.
Qin Fan then pointed to another beautifully crafted dish. “Try guessing this one too.”
Song Zhihui gave it another go, but this time, her guess missed the mark again.
With a smile, Qin Fan unveiled the answer. “This one’s called ‘A Cup Invites the Moon’s Shadow, Drunk Among Flowers.’”
Zhihui nodded in appreciation but instinctively glanced at the woman beside her. Both dish names featured the words ‘Invite’ and ‘Moon’—a bit too coincidental, wasn’t it?
Even as an outsider, she was beginning to suspect there might be some deeper meaning. If she could notice it, how could Tantai Yaoyue herself not feel it?
“And this dish here,” Qin Fan said, now clearly enjoying himself, “any guesses?”
This time, Song Zhihui didn’t bother. “Just tell us, Master.”
“It’s called ‘Moon Shadows Fall Through Gauze Curtains,’” he said with a satisfied nod.
Now, even Song Zhihui didn’t know how to respond.
If the first dish’s name was a coincidence, and the second a stretch, then the third one made it clear—Qin Fan was doing this on purpose.
Each dish name carried the characters for Yaoyue. It wasn’t subtle anymore.
“Alright, everyone must be hungry. Let’s eat,” Qin Fan said with a laugh.
He orchestrated this little act as a way to send a message—a not-so-subtle one. Back when he trained Yaoyue deep in the mountains, he had to act like a gentleman due to the constraints of his system.
But now, with those restraints gone, he wanted to hint at his true feelings.
Through the names of the dishes, he was telling Tantai Yaoyue: *Yaoyue, your Master… likes you.*
He believed that now that she had received the message, she would start to see him as a potential romantic partner.
Qin Fan had full confidence in himself. With his countless god-tier skills and talents, what man could possibly be better than him?
He truly believed there was a good chance Yaoyue would choose him.
But Yaoyue wasn’t naïve. She understood the message loud and clear. And what she felt was a deep, creeping discomfort.
Her heart already belonged to someone else. There was no space for another.
To her, Qin Fan was nothing more than a respected Master—someone she admired from a distance.
Now that he had revealed this side of himself, she felt uneasy.
Still, she couldn’t embarrass him in front of everyone. She had no choice but to play dumb, pretending not to understand the implication behind the dish names.
“Come on, let’s eat,” Qin Fan said, picking up his chopsticks and tasting a bite in hopes of lightening the mood.
Tantai Yaoyue, Song Zhihui, and Feng Anna all picked up their chopsticks as well.
But before anyone could take a bite, a sharp gasp broke the air.
“Ah! What… what is this?!” Wang Haoran’s voice rang out in disbelief.
Everyone turned to look at him. He was staring at his phone, completely stunned, as if he had just seen the most outrageous thing in the world.
“Haoran, what are you watching?” Qin Fan asked, curiosity getting the better of him. He leaned closer to see.
The moment his eyes landed on the screen, his pupils shrank, and his face froze.
It was that video.
He scrambled to stop the playback, but it was too late.
The sound played loud and clear.
“Ah… Yaoyue… Yaoyue… ah…”
Qin Fan’s voice echoed from the speaker, growing louder and more intense.
His toes clenched inside his shoes, his scalp tingled, and a wave of cold sweat rolled down his back.
Across the table, Tantai Yaoyue, Song Zhihui, and Feng Anna all turned to look at him.
Their expressions were a mix of shock and suspicion.
And just like that, the scene of total social death begun.
