Chapter 112: Chapter 112
Lysander’s pov
I have never been close to the ocean before, it was breathtaking at night. I leaned my forehead against the cool glass of the floor-to-ceiling windows, watching the moonlit waves crash against the black volcanic cliffs far below.
We were thousands of miles away from the city. Here, on a secluded private estate perched high above the Mediterranean coastline, the air was so clean that I found myself breathing in deeply.
A pair of broad, warm arms wrapped around my waist from behind.
Drake pulled me back against his chest, his large hands resting over my stomach as he buried his face into the crook of my neck.
His skin t banished the night chill clinging to my linen shirt. He inhaled deeply, drawing the scent of my skin into his lungs before pressing a slow, lingering kiss directly over the pulsing vein at my collarbone.
"You’re quiet tonight, little bird," Drake murmured
I relaxed into his grip, resting the back of my head against his broad shoulder, letting out a long, quiet sigh I felt like I’d been holding since we boarded his private jet.
"I’m just... trying to get used to it," I admitted softly, covering his large hands with my own. "It feels surreal. Two days ago, I was reunited with my mother and now, we are halfway across the world with no threat waiting around the corner.
Drake turned his head slightly, his sharp jaw brushing against my cheek as his dark red eyes caught the silver reflection of the moon on the water.
"There are no threats here," he said firmly like he was reminding me of his promise. He promised to take me somewhere where I wouldn’t feel the need to look over my shoulder. There were no vampires out here either, just us.
He shifted his grip, turning me gently in his arms until I was facing him.
The moonlight illuminated his striking, razor-sharp features, the dark dark hair falling over his forehead, and those glowing crimson eyes that looked down at me with an intensity so fierce it made my breath catch in my throat.
It didn’t matter how much we spent beside each other, I was pretty much glued to his side all the time and yet, he made my heart beat so fast in my chest all the time.
The second he gets close, my body starts to heat up.
He cupped my face in his broad palm, his thumb gently tracing the smooth line of my cheekbone.
"This week belongs entirely to us," Drake purred softly, his fangs lengthening just enough to graze his lower lip. "We get to enjoy ourselves and not worry a bit about anything."
A sudden, warm flutter bloomed deep in my lower stomach, sending a flush straight up my neck. I looked up into his eyes, wrapping my arms around his neck and rising slightly on my toes.
"I don’t mind, I am liking our honeymoon already," I whispered, my fingers running through the soft dark hair at the nape of his neck. "It’s going great."
A dark, incredibly handsome smile touched the corners of Drake’s lips. Before I could draw another breath, he slid one broad arm beneath my knees and the other behind my back, scooping me up into his arms as effortlessly as if I weighed nothing at all.
"Good," he growled, turning on his heel and carrying me away from the balcony glass toward the massive, silk-draped four-poster bed at the center of the master suite. "Because I don’t intend to let you sleep very much this week."
I giggled as he laid me gently on the bed.
...
Morning light filtered through the window, painting the vaulted ceiling in soft shades of gold and pale lavender.
I stirred slowly, pulling myself up from the deep haze of sleep. The heavy, silk-threaded sheets felt impossibly soft against my bare skin.
I didn’t need to open my eyes to know Drake was still there.
His presence was an immovable anchor beside me. One of his massive, heavy arms was draped possessively over my waist, pinning me gently against his side.
The dark, thrumming heat of his skin radiated through the mattress, warming my entire body.
I shifted slightly, turning my head on the pillow to look at him.
Without the sharp, intimidating glare of his red eyes, Drake looked almost peaceful in the early light. The sharp angles of his jaw were relaxed, dark hair falling messy over his forehead.
He looked less like an ancient, terrifying High Sovereign and more like a man who had finally found somewhere to rest.
As if sensing my gaze, his dark lashes fluttered open. His eyes, a soft and deep garnet in the morning sun, locked onto mine. A slow, lazy smile curved the corner of his lips.
"Good morning, little bird," he rumbled, his voice low, gravelly, and thick with sleep.
"Good morning," I murmured, a faint flush creeping up my cheeks as I remembered his promise from last night.
He didn’t fuck me like I had hoped, I was disappointed but he promised me a blissful week and I was looking forward to that.
Drake tightened his arm around my waist, pulling me flush against his chest until my face was buried in the crook of his neck. He pressed a long, lingering kiss against my temple, his fangs lightly grazing my hairline.
"How does my mate feel today?" he asked softly, his thumb tracing slow, rhythmic circles into the skin above my hip.
"Good," I admitted, taking a quiet breath and letting out a long, contented sigh. "Light. Like I can actually breathe."
"That is how it should be," Drake growled softly against my ear.
He rolled onto his back, bringing me with him so I rested over his chest. I propped my chin up on his sternum, looking down at him as the sea breeze rustled the drapes near the open balcony doors. Below us, the faint, rhythmic crash of waves against the volcanic cliffs filled the comfortable quiet.
"I promised your mother you wouldn’t abandon your studies," he said suddenly, his red eyes gleaming with a warm, quiet amusement as he ran a hand down the length of my spine.
"Once our week here is finished, I have already arranged for your private studio at the main estate to be outfitted with everything you need. You will resume your art, Lysander and go back to school."
