Under Leon’s horrified gaze, the monster lifted Henry’s body, its claws still buried in his chest. And then, it flung him away. Blood sprayed as Henry’s body was sent flying.
Leon’s eyes turned blood red as he shot toward the monster in rage, but the grotesque being back slapped him.
Leon was sent flying as well and cratered into a wall. His body slid down as he lost consciousness instantly.
....
After several hours, when Leon opened his eyes again, he found countless bodies littered throughout the whole cafe.
"No, no, no." He cried out in panic and stood up, his legs trembling. He looked around, searching for Henry. Corpses piled one above another. He prayed in his heart so that Henry wouldn’t be here. But the last scene before he lost consciousness was still vivid in his mind.
And then he saw what he was expecting not to see. Henry’s body lay in a corner, buried beneath another person’s corpse.
Leon walked there and dropped to his knees. Tears rolled down his cheeks. "H-Henry..." His voice trembled as he checked his pulse.
Dead!
How could he still be alive? One of his arms was missing, torn apart with a biting mark. And in his chest was the bloody wound.
"Henry, I am sorry. I am very sorry. I shouldn’t have asked you to save the kid." Leon pressed his head against the ground and started crying.
He stayed like that for hours. When people arrived to clear the area, one had to drag him forcefully.
Days passed silently after that. Leon wouldn’t laugh. He wasn’t used to talking much anyway. Among the very few friends Leon had in his whole life, Henry was one of them. Yet now, he was already dead.
One week passed like that. Then one day after college, as Leon was returning home, he suddenly heard a scream. And the voice was oddly familiar. So familiar that Leon’s mind went blank from panic.
Then...
He started running toward the source of the scream.
When he arrived, he saw a group of people dragging Jenny away. There were eleven of them.
Leon immediately rushed forward to stop them and free Jenny.
One of them stepped forward and delivered a punch. Leon tried to react, but the opponent was too fast. And the punch. The moment his opponent’s fist slammed into his stomach, he doubled over in pain, blood bursting out. Leon was sent flying like a cannonball.
The Wall caved in as Leon’s body slid down.
Leon gritted his teeth and stood up again. Without worrying about his condition, Leon shot forward once more.
The man who had just punched him threw a kick this time. His leg slammed into Leon’s chest squarely.
Crack!
A bone-shattering sound echoed as Leon was sent flying. And this time, he didn’t move. He couldn’t.
From the group of eleven people who had come to abduct Jenny, one walked closer and sealed Jenny’s mouth. And then... They left along with Jenny.
"Mmmmmmm.
Mmmmmmm." Jenny tried to reach for Leon, but only muffled sounds came out. She couldn’t even speak at the moment, let alone reach him.
Leon lay sprawled like that for hours before it started raining. The rainwater started pouring heavily on his face. Leon slowly opened his eyes but didn’t move. He felt a hollow in his heart. "Who were they? And why did they take Jenny? Why? Why?" He roared. But no answer came. Only the pitter-patter of the rain could be heard.
Leon slowly pushed his body up. "No. I need to find her no matter what." A resoluteness flashed in Leon’s eyes. He started searching for Jenny. In just one week, not a single place in Delvan was untouched. He let go of the finals. He let go of his part-time jobs. His only purpose was to find Jenny. One month passed by. Then a year. His hair and beard had grown long, corners torn apart. He looked almost like a beggar.
Then suddenly...
A car parked in front of the building he used to live in. He was sitting beside the window when he saw the door of the car open and a body being pushed out.
Thud!
The body fell to the ground with a dull sound.
Leon immediately sensed something wrong and rushed downstairs. The moment he closed the distance and stood before the body, his heart skipped several beats. The body lying on the ground was none but Jenny’s. He froze.
His legs trembled as if he would collapse at any moment. His head felt lightheaded. He was almost about to collapse but suddenly...
Something snapped inside him. His eyes turned bloodshot. A pair of crimson wings materialized behind his back.
Zzzzz!
The space distorted. The ground trembled as Leon’s body vanished from his position.
The car that had left Jenny’s body outside the building was moving forward along the road.
Suddenly...
Bammmmm!
Something heavy slammed on the car as the window glass shattered.
"Aaahhhhhhhhhhh." A female voice echoed from inside. There were two men inside the car as well. They paled in fear as well.
But before anyone could...
Everyone saw the car’s roof being torn apart as sunlight entered inside. When the roof was totally gone, they saw a figure hovering in the air, its crimson eyes locked on them.
The figure’s palms slammed on the two men. Instantly, their body melted as if the skeleton had been sucked out.
"D-don’t." The girl tried to speak, but the figure’s hand shot out, wrapping its fingers around her throat and pulling her into the air.
"WHO KILLED JENNY?" A hoarse voice echoed.
"It’s... It’s my bro....." The girl tried to speak, but she choked.
"Where is your brother?" The figure asked again.
"C-central plains. The royal palace." She somehow spoke those words.
Snap! The figure squeezed his fingers, snapping the life out of the girl. Her neck had totally shattered.
The figure was none other than Leon. He flung the girl’s body into the distance and soared high in the sky.
"The royal palace." He spoke before his body turned into a crimson streak and rushed forward.
