Leon shot forward, the black claymore appearing in his right hand.
Other than Javier and Maggie, six more were left from the Alpha company. Those six tried to stop Leon, standing before Javier and Maggie like human shields.
But...
"Sword song," Leon whispered mid-motion. Instantly, invisible arcs of sword aura whistled through the air. They could only see a ripple in the air before the world tilted before them.
Thud!
Thud!
Thud!
Bodies fell to the ground one after another. Six more people died from the Alpha Company. Now, only Javier and Maggie remained.
They both spun on their heels and bolted away. Everyone trying to stop Leon had died. A total of thirteen people. Javier and Maggie were stronger than the rest, yes, but not strong enough to deal with all of them at once. But Leon hadn’t even broken a sweat. Yet all were dead.
Fear gripped their hearts, despair growing with each second.
Leon didn’t try to stop them. He didn’t run after them. He only raised his left hand slowly...
"Ice domain." He whispered. Instantly, jagged spikes of ice erupted from the ground and struck both of them.
Splatter!
Blood splattered on the ground.
Both Javier’s and Maggie’s bodies collapsed to the ground.
Everyone could only watch with bewildered expressions. Leon had killed every single member of Alpha Company participating in today’s combined mission.
Leon didn’t spare anyone even a glance. He walked back to Snow and continued moving forward.
Seeing that, Nolan and Nadeem also followed. Before they could go further, a girl who looked to be in her early twenties grabbed Nolan’s wrist. "Hey, aren’t you also from Charlie Company? You can come and join our team." She gestured toward three people standing behind her. One more member was on that team, but he had died at Leon’s hands. He was from Alpha Company.
Nobody wanted to take unnecessary risks, so if it was allowed to form a team with six people, why not go for the maximum?
"Not interested," Nolan said bluntly before following Leon and Snow. Nadeem followed behind him, his intention crystal clear.
The girl’s face darkened. ’Don’t regret it when you die out there.’
Others reshuffled their groups and continued their hunting. After Leon’s showcase of battle prowess, nobody dared harbor ill intent toward him and instead focused on completing the mission.
As everyone took separate paths, all faced hordes of monsters. No group faced any difficulty with the monsters. But as days passed, stronger monsters started emerging. Earlier, only a few would be D-Class or C-Class. But after three days, the whole horde was of D-Class monsters. So the fight grew from comfortable to tough.
Except for two groups.
In one were Leon and Snow.
In another, Nolan and Nadeem.
In Leon’s group, Snow didn’t even have to lift a finger. He himself wasn’t fighting either. The Raging Inferno’s wings were doing all the work. He would just have to imagine, and those daggers would whistle through the air, slaying any monster that came into view.
And in Nolan’s team, both of them dealt with all the monsters with ease.
Four days passed like that. Though the other teams had to struggle, nobody else had died till now.
On the fifth day, the difficulty increased by multiple folds.
The monsters were all C-Class, and the number was also high in each group.
One group of five people was advancing cautiously. But suddenly, ten C-Class monsters emerged from the back of a building. Before they could even react, another horde of fifteen monsters appeared behind them and lunged forward as well.
Among the group, one had defense magic. He instantly formed a barrier surrounding everyone. Among the remaining four, one had lightning magic. He raised his hand as thunder roared in the sky.
Bolts after bolts rained down. A few monsters fell, but the remaining ones were attacking the barrier.
The surface of the barrier rippled in many places, but it still didn’t collapse.
Another fighter in the group had only a bow. But every time he pulled the string, energy arrows materialized. The next moment, he would shoot them. A few monsters fell, but it still wasn’t enough. Of the remaining two, one had a sword, and the other had a spear. Both were close-combat knights. So they could only wait for the moment.
Suddenly, a red figure emerged from the side of a building. Two horns jutted out from its head. Thick muscles bulged like iron slabs. In one of its arms, it was carrying a scythe.
The one with the sword noticed the red figure before everyone else. But the moment he did, he froze in fear. Others were also about to react, but before they could...
Whoooooosh!
The red figure hurled the scythe. The weapon spun in the air as it shot forward. The moment it struck the barrier, the barrier shattered like fragile glass.
The one with the spear shot forward and swung his weapon.
Peng!
The spear was sliced through the middle before the scythe pushed forward and went through the one with the lightning magic.
The lightning magic user froze for a moment before its upper half slid down and collapsed to the ground.
"Noooooo." Seeing one of them die, the other three, except the one with the sword, shot forward.
The knight with the bow pulled the string mid-motion. Then, without hesitation, he let go of three arrows at once. Each one of them bolted forward, intending to destroy the red figure. The one with the barrier magic was running at the back, ready to protect the two before him.
The spear had already broken. But the spear wielder used a pouch at his waist to produce another spear, which he aimed at the red figure’s chest.
The red figure didn’t stop them. It let both attacks land on its body.
Three arrows went through it, huge gaping holes appearing as blood gushed out.
The spearhead also pierced the figure’s chest.
But before they could celebrate, the red figure’s hand moved. The scythe flew back at its hand as it swung.
Whoooosh!
All three froze. The spear wielder looked down, only to see a thin line of red appearing horizontally across all their waists. But that wasn’t the most frightening thing.
They all saw, with horrified gaze, as all the wounds in the red figure’s body healed before their naked eyes.
The one with the sword staggered back. "No, no, no. Why is it here? Why? We are all going to die. There’s no way we can kill a demon."
The other groups also faced similar situations. Out of nowhere, demons suddenly appeared.
Only a handful of people knew about their existence. So most of them didn’t even know what trouble they were in.
Meanwhile, four figures stood atop a tall building. The tallest building, to be exact.
All four figures had red skin like other demons. But aside from the red skin, they almost looked human. No horns. No blood-red eyes. And the aura...
The aura they were exuding was totally different. It was so wild and so ferocious that it felt like anything that came into contact would be lacerated.
"Where is Logan?" The figure standing at the frontmost asked. His arms were crossed over his chest.
"Couldn’t find him yet." Another one standing at the back replied. "We used the Oracle Orb to determine where he would be today, but until he uses his bloodline or the Demon Sword, we won’t know, even if he passes by us."
"Then how should we force him to use the bloodline or the Demon Sword?" Another red figure asked.
"Look for the strongest one here. Without some capabilities, he shouldn’t have been capable of drawing the sword."
The red figure standing at the front nodded. All of them started searching, scanning the whole area from atop the building. Their eyes could see very far, so all groups fighting in the distance were within their range of observation.
Suddenly one of them spoke. "Look at those two. Both of them are capable, but that one with the brunette hair seems to be the one we are looking for.
"Let me check." One of them hovered in the sky as crimson wings flapped at his back. The next moment, he vanished. The speed was so fast that he didn’t even leave a blur behind.
Far in the distance, Nolan and Nadeem were fighting a group of monsters. Nolan was using a real sword at the moment, not an energy sword made from ice.
Five monsters lunged at him at once. Nolan moved like he was dancing. He weaved between the attacks. But wherever he passed, heads rolled down.
Suddenly...
Boooooooooooooom!
A loud explosion rocked the area as the shockwave sent the monsters flying. Nolan himself had to pierce his sword into the ground to stop himself from flying back. Nadeem wasn’t that lucky, though.
Nolan covered his eyes with his hand to protect them from the erupting dust and debris.
Schlk!
Some sharp particles grazed his arm and shoulder, blood gushing out.
The dust slowly cleared, and Nolan could finally see what stood before him.
A red figure, wings flapping at his back. His eyes were locked on him.
"Long time no see, Logan." The figure spoke.
"Logan?" Nolan’s eyes narrowed. But before he could even try to understand what was happening, the red figure vanished from his position.
