"Those daggers! They are..." Before Velmor could finish, the daggers rose high and started circling together.
Whoooooosh!
Suddenly, an energy wave erupted outside. Leon was forced to cover his eyes again. Then, as he slowly opened his eyes, he saw a figure standing before him. The figure’s body was transparent, not a real body but a manifestation.
Long orange hair cascaded over her shoulders. The white cloth on her body billowed. Though transparent, she exuded an overwhelming presence.
Velmor staggered back in shock. "No. She... She is supposed to be dead." He whispered.
The transparent figure stretched her arms as both daggers slammed into her palms... Her fingers gracefully wrapped around the hilts.
"With just the four of you, you think you can do whatever you want to my master?" The transparent figure’s voice echoed like a note from a harp. But though melodious, it sent a chill down the four red figures’ spines.
Velmor took two more steps back. Leon could only stare at this newcomer, his heart pounding for some reason. ’Who is she? She appeared out of the daggers. Was she living inside them? But her body! Why is it looking like this?’ Too many questions but no answer. Leon continued to stare at her, waiting to see what she was about to do.
But instead of charging toward the red figures, the transparent female actually turned toward Lamia. "You filthy snake. You have some nerve hitting on, Master."
"I have a name, you know." Lamia giggled. She wasn’t offended by her words.
"How do you still have the nerve to laugh after everything you did? You let a hilly billy kiss, Master." She was seething with rage.
Snow, who was standing in the distance, her left eye twitched slightly. ’She isn’t talking about me, is she? She better not.’
"It’s normal for others to fall for Master. What? You want to say he isn’t worthy?" Lamia said playfully.
The transparent girl threw one of the daggers at Lamia. "Others will fall, that doesn’t mean the Master will rock the bed with everyone who does. You were supposed to protect him." She almost roared.
The Frost Monarch’s blade flashed out from the system panel and dropped into Lamia’s hand as she defended against the dagger.
Leon’s eyes narrowed. ’They are taking out my weapons as if they are the real masters. What’s going on?’ Leon, meanwhile, wondered.
"Protect him?" Lamia spoke. "From a kiss? You are talking as if the Master is food and others are eyeing him to swallow him. Stop acting like an obsessive lover and deal with them first."
At those words, the transparent girl looked at the red figures again. "I wanted to use this one time ’Soul Appearance’ for a specific time. But you filthy red worms had to ruin it. Now pay for your insolence." She roared and then vanished from her position the next moment.
Lamia also shot forward, brandishing the Frost Monarch’s blade.
Whoooooosh! The transparent girl appeared before one of the demons and slashed with a dagger. The demon somehow dodged it at the last moment. But a fiery arc left the dagger and sliced a building in the distance obliquely. One side slid and rumbled down.
Before the demon could react, the girl’s knee bent and drove forward.
The demon doubled over in pain and was sent flying.
Lamia appeared before another and swung the frost blade. Wherever the blade passed, the air condensed and the ground froze.
The demon didn’t even dare to block it. He leaped back with all his energy.
One demon who looked to be the strongest among these four rushed at the transparent figure. He closed the distance in the blink of an eye and thrust his palm forward. Instantly, a palm-shaped crimson hologram pressed down on her. The girl didn’t dodge. She thrust one of the daggers.
The tip of the dagger struck the hologram, shattering it instantly. But before the tip could land on the demon, another red figure appeared out of nowhere from the side and delivered a flying kick.
Thud!
Though transparent, the kick still landed on the girl’s figure and sent her flying. But mid-motion, she hurled one of the daggers. The dagger whistled through the air dangerously and struck the demon’s chest. Blood sprayed as the dagger tip dug deeper.
The four demons soon gathered in one place and looked at Lamia and the transparent figure who were also standing together, staring back at them.
"This is not good. We should have brought one of the demon lords as well." One of the demons said.
"But why is the Phoenix princess still alive?" Another demon spat angrily.
"She isn’t alive. It’s a soul manifestation. Though she died, her soul is still intact. And if she can form another body, she will revive without any hindrance."
"What should we do? If we return without the Demon Sword and Logan’s blood, the King won’t let us off the hook."
"We can’t remain here either. Let’s return for now and think of a solution." Saying that, one of the demons crushed a crystal against the ground as eerie smoke erupted and swallowed them all.
Lamia or the transparent figure didn’t try to stop them. Both let go of the weapons as they vanished back into Leon’s system storage.
The transparent figure finally turned toward Leon, longing clear in her eyes. She slowly walked toward him.
"Are you another tamed beast of mine from the past life?" Leon asked.
But the figure didn’t reply. She walked closer and finally, when she was before Leon...
Her arms wrapped around his neck, pulling him closer. Her lips locked against his. Leon’s eyes widened as his heart gasped.
Before his mind could process anything, the transparent figure started to fade. She still didn’t let Leon go, though. Soon, every trace of her vanished as if she wasn’t even there.
Leon stood there frozen. "W-who was she?" He whispered.
"That was Renata. The Primordial Phoenix princess from the fourteenth generation."
