Leon wanted to ask more questions, but his eyes darted toward Sol and Emily in the distance. They lay sprawled, blood gushing out from their injuries. Leon’s expression sank.
Lamia followed his gaze. She immediately waved her right hand, ice erupting from the ground, lifting Emily and Sol’s bodies up in the distance. The next moment, the ice continued to morph like waves, bringing their bodies toward Lamia. When they were before her, Lamia waved her hand once more. The ice slowly faded as their bodies touched the ground smoothly. Lamia then fed them some pills. The moment she did, their injuries healed instantly. Color returned to their faces. Leon finally breathed a sigh of relief.
He then focused on the question that was hammering in his mind. "Renata... Renata..." Leon mumbled. "Earlier, you said that transparent figure was Renata, the Phoenix princess. Did you mean the owner of that Hell’s Pool in Nexar? The place I obtained my daggers from?"
Lamia nodded.
"But isn’t she dead? I mean, I thought the Hell’s Pool was her burial ground."
"She is indeed dead, Master."
"Then what was that just now?"
"When someone attains a certain cultivation realm, they become immortal. And even if an immortal is killed, unless their soul is fully destroyed, they can find a new body or reconstruct a new body to revive again."
"So you are saying..." Leon started, but Lamia finished it for him.
"Yes. She died, but her soul is intact. To revive again, either she needs to find a soulless body or reconstruct a totally new body. And currently, she is occupying the Raging Inferno’s Wings. That pair of daggers is a soul weapon. A weapon that forms its own soul is called a soul weapon. For soul weapons, other souls can live within them if the soul of the weapon allows it. But one soul weapon can allow only one soul to live, and for that time being, the soul weapon’s own soul stays dormant."
Leon felt a headache listening to the explanation. "I see." He said after slowly digesting the information. "So Renata’s soul is living inside my daggers." ’So Renata is also an acquaintance from my past life. A tamed beast, I guess. But the way she kissed me, she seemed less like a tamed beast and more like a lover. No wonder I felt someone was angry inside me when I said the daggers’ skills weren’t that impressive. Also, when Snow gave me a peck last time.’ Leon mused inwardly.
Leon turned toward Lamia to ask something else, but noticing her gaze, he forgot what he wanted to ask. "Why are you staring at me like that?"
Lamia didn’t answer and walked closer instead. She lightly waved her hand as a barrier of ice hid them inside.
"What are you doing?" Snow shouted from the side and rushed toward Leon, but Leon was already inside the barrier.
Lamia stopped before Leon. "Master, I didn’t want to make her angry until now. But as she already made her move, I don’t think she would mind if I take my chances now. And even if she does, I can’t care."
"What are y...." Leon wanted to say something, but Lamia didn’t give him that chance.
She closed in, tiptoed, and wrapped her arms around Leon’s neck. Before Leon could even react, something soft pressed against his lips. A warm breath bounced against his skin. His heartbeat rose uncontrollably. He could only see a pair of shut eyes, brows fluttering slightly. A pleasant fragrance invaded his nostrils. He thought about pushing her away and freeing himself. But his limbs didn’t follow his mind.
The time seemed to have stopped for them.
Lamia had no intention of stopping. Instead, her embrace tightened, body pressing against body.
"Mmmmmmm." Leon wanted to say ’stop’ but only a muffled sound came out. Something soft and warm moved inside his mouth as if it was venturing into the vastness.
Finally, after a few minutes that felt like an eternity, Lamia let go of Leon.
They both started gasping for air.
"Forgive me for my shamelessness, Master. I know you are not in the mood to try anything like this due to Jenny being abducted, but I could barely control myself. It’s been thousands of years that I have been waiting for this. And I promise I will try to control myself until Jenny is rescued."
Leon stared at her with a blank face. He didn’t know whether to be happy or angry. He didn’t know if he should act normal as well. Kissed by two gorgeous ladies in the same day without any prior anticipation or knowledge. At least the first one had already disappeared, so he didn’t feel that awkward. But Lamia was still standing before him.
After staying silent for a long time, Leon finally mustered a few words. "I don’t think it’s proper between us. I mean what you just did."
"Why, Master?" Lamia asked in shock, covering her mouth. She looked like she was hurt by those words. "Are you saying you don’t like me?"
"No, no. It’s not that. You are good-looking and all. Gorgeous, I should say. But what you just did is something that should only happen between couples. People who have romantic interest in each other. Not because of just a bond." Leon somehow said those sentences.
"Just a bond?" Lamia looked surprised. "Master, you think I kissed you because of our Master and tamed beast bond? Not because we love each other?"
"What else?"
Lamia shook her head. "Master... Renata and I are divine beasts. We never would have formed a bond with a human. Not just us, no divine beasts would have. But we still did. Why do you think that happened?"
"That...." Leon started but couldn’t finish.
Looking at his awkward expression, Lamia spoke again. "It’s alright, Master. Once you remember everything, you won’t think like this." She said in a consoling voice.
"Yeah, I hope I can remember everything I am supposed to remember fast."
But Lamia was thinking something else entirely. ’Before Master regains his memory, I need to make my move. Otherwise, he will again say, "one person, one lover." Once he has already done it, he will have no choice but to take responsibility.’ She gloated inwardly.
