Lamia waved her hand as the ice barrier faded.
Snow hurried beside Leon. "What were you two up to? What did she do?" She asked hastily.
"You don’t need to worry about that. Our focus should be now on these." Lamia said while looking at the front. Five pairs of gates had appeared in the distance. Red energy swirled on the surface of one of the gates in each pair, while blue energy swirled on the other.
"What are these? Gates to exit? But why are there so many?" Leon asked.
"For each person, two gates. The blue one is to exit the dungeon, and the red one is to advance to the hidden task. If anyone among us can clear the hidden task, this gate will be permanently closed."
"But why separate gates?" Leon asked in confusion. Normally, there would be one gate for each dungeon.
"It’s because, based on each person’s talent and strength, the hidden test will be different," Snow replied this time.
"Different test for different people?" Leon asked in bewilderment. He knew about the gates. But he didn’t know about the details for clearing a permanent gate.
"That’s right.Master." Snow replied.
Leon looked at the gates for a moment before turning toward Snow and Lamia. "Are you two going to enter the gate for the hidden task?"
Snow shook her head. "I am not going. I don’t want to take a mission I don’t know the details about."
Leon then looked at Lamia. "I can’t enter, Master."
"But a gate appeared for you too."
"Because I am inside this dungeon, it recognizes my presence. But I didn’t enter as a challenger. I only came here because of you. Even if I enter the red gate, I won’t be allowed to participate."
Leon nodded before looking toward the nearest red gate. "Then I’ll go alone." He slowly walked toward the gate. He stopped before the swirling red energy for a second before stepping through.
His body disappeared.
Snow continued staring at the gate. She wanted to ask Lamia what had happened inside the ice barrier earlier. But Snow held back for now. At the moment, she was more worried about Leon. ’Will he be able to clear it?’ Since the hidden task changed according to the person’s talent and strength, Leon’s test would definitely not be easy. And if he failed, Snow didn’t even know how long he would remain trapped inside.
Lamia waved her hand. Ice formed beneath Emily and Sol’s unconscious bodies before lifting them. "Let’s send them outside first."
Snow nodded. Together, they brought Emily and Sol toward two different blue gates before sending them through.
High above in the sky, the middle-aged man responsible for organizing the combined mission was watching everything with a stunned expression.
He had seen everything Leon had done. He had seen Leon slaughter the knights from Alpha Company. He had seen how easily Leon killed people who should have been strong opponents for someone taking the test for military recruitment. But that wasn’t even what shocked him the most.
He had also seen Leon deflect an attack from a Demon General. He didn’t know what demon generals meant, but he could feel their power. Even now, he could hardly believe what he had witnessed.
And now, without showing the slightest hesitation, Leon had entered the red gate.
’Who the hell is this boy?’ The middle-aged man swallowed.
After the four Demon Generals fled, the remaining demons had also retreated from the dungeon. Those who were still alive in other areas gradually arrived before the gates. Some were injured. Others were completely exhausted. None of them chose the red gates.
One after another, they entered the blue gates and left the dungeon.
In the end, Leon was the only person who entered a red gate.
Meanwhile, Leon stepped out from the opposite side. The scenery before him immediately changed. Instead of ruined buildings, he found himself standing inside a massive jungle. Tall trees surrounded him from every direction. Thick roots covered the ground, while vines hung from the branches above.
Leon slowly looked around.
A notification popped up in the system panel.
[Spiritual energy detected. Host can now cultivate and absorb spiritual energy.]
Leon wasn’t surprised. But as he was about to read the other notifications...
"AHHHHH!"
A scream echoed from somewhere deeper inside the jungle.
Leon immediately turned toward the sound.
Whooooosh!
He shot forward.
Trees blurred past him as he rushed through the jungle.
Clang!
Boooooom!
Sounds of weapons colliding soon reached his ears. A few moments later, Leon reached a clearing.
One boy and one girl were fighting against a huge monster.
The creature stood more than four meters tall. Its skin was completely black, while its head resembled that of a bull. Two massive horns curved from its skull. Its arms were thick and ended in sharp claws, but its lower body resembled that of a horse.
A huge sword was in one hand. A massive shield was in the other.
Leon tried to sense its strength. His expression immediately became serious because he couldn’t tell how strong it actually was.
Its aura was simply too strong.
Bammmm!
The monster smashed its shield forward. The young man blocked with a halberd he was carrying.
Booooooooom!
He was sent flying and crashed into a tree.
"Riven!"
The girl shouted before rushing toward the monster. She looked around eighteen or nineteen. Long black hair fluttered behind her as she moved, while her light violet eyes remained fixed on the monster. Her delicate features and pale skin made her look unusually beautiful even with dirt covering one side of her face.
Her sword flashed.
Clang!
The monster blocked with its shield.
The girl twisted her body and immediately attacked from the other side.
But the monster’s sword swept toward her.
Whooooosh!
She ducked. The blade passed barely above her head. She spun and slashed toward one of its front legs.
Clang! Sparks erupted.
Her sword failed to pierce its black skin.
"Damn it," she cursed.
The monster raised its front leg.
Bammmm!
Its hoof slammed into the ground. A violent shockwave sent the girl flying. The boy rushed forward again. His halberd descended with tremendous force.
Booooooooom!
The monster blocked with its shield. The ground beneath its feet cracked. The boy gritted his teeth. But the monster suddenly twisted its shield. His halberd slid away. Its sword immediately thrust toward his chest.
The boy’s face turned pale.
"Riven!"
The girl rushed toward him, but she was too far away.
The sword was about to pierce his body when...
Clang!
A black claymore suddenly appeared between them.
