"It’s nothing. This is what we are supposed to do. Help each other." Leon replied in a tone that was neither very humble nor very arrogant. He looked at both of them. Other than the test inside the Red Horn’s Nest, it was the first time finding humans inside a dungeon. So Leon couldn’t fully relax even though he was away from the monster, and the monster had no intention of Pursuing.

"Who are you? It’s the first time seeing you here." The girl, meanwhile, asked. She too looked at Leon warily.

"I was just passing through the road nearby when I heard a scream. I am not from around here." Leon replied, not knowing what was actually going on.

"Which village are you from?" The girl pressed further.

"It’s very far away from here. I am sure you have never heard about it."

"Then what are you doing here, so far away from your home?" She continued.

Before Leon could answer, the boy spoke. "What’s wrong with you, Luna? He just saved my life, yet here you are, questioning him like he is an enemy." He said in a dissatisfied voice.

The girl glared at him but didn’t say anything. The boy then looked at Leon. "Don’t mind her. She is a bit rude but good at heart." He said with a smile.

"Who are you calling rude?" The girl snapped, but the boy totally ignored her.

"Let’s go. You saved my life, and I must show gratitude. You will be our guest today." The boy said, smiling.

"That’s not necessary. I have some work to do."

"Please, I insist. Just one day won’t do any harm."

Leon fell into deep thought. ’What should I do? I am supposed to complete the hidden task, but I don’t even know what it is. Going with them doesn’t seem like a bad idea. I can retrieve some information while I am at it.’ Leon nodded. "Alright. I will have to trouble you then."

"Hahahahaha. It’s no trouble at all."

With that, the boy started walking. Leon followed. The girl stood there for a few seconds before marching behind them as well.

While walking, Leon noticed something strange. The ground they were walking on was too hard. The trees lining the roadsides looked dead. Even the sky above the earth looked a bit too crimson.

Soon, the group of three arrived in the vicinity of a village. "We are here." The boy said.

In the distance, a huge market could be seen. People were busy working. A few blacksmith shops could be seen, with blacksmiths sharpening weapons. The air was thick with gossip and bargaining. Village houses lined the back, some of their rooftops visible from here. There was something else. A veil of tension. Even from this distance, Leon could feel it.

Leon and those two continued walking. When a few villagers noticed the boy and the girl returning, a middle-aged man came out from the crowd.

"Luna, Riven. You two are back. How did it go? Could you two retrieve it?" The middle-aged man asked with anticipation, worry etched on his forehead.

Both the boy and the girl looked down, their expressions sinking. The girl shook her head slowly. "No, elder. We couldn’t." The boy added from her side.

The elder clutched his chest, his face twisting in pain. "Not again. Is there really no way to get rid of this curse?"

The surroundings fell silent. Every face that came into view looked gloomy.

Suddenly, another person asked. "Who is this young man?"

At that question, many eyes darted toward Leon. They finally noticed that someone unfamiliar was present here at the moment.

"While we were fighting the Jungle King, this brother helped us. I was almost about to die." Riven said, and then explained the situation.

People looked at Leon with gratitude. "Thank you, young man. I can’t express how much you helped us. You brought these two kids back. Among all those who can still fight in this village, both of them are the strongest."

Leon’s eyes narrowed. ’This village. Why do I feel like it’s a bit strange?’ Leon mused.
