The elderly person turned toward Riven. "Riven, take our guest to rest."

"Yes, elder." Riven nodded and then gestured for Leon to follow him. Leon exchanged a slight bow to the elder before leaving with Riven. Luna meanwhile stayed back. Once Leon and Riven had crossed a great distance, the elder looked at Luna. His expression became serious, the earlier elderly affection totally vanishing.

"Could you check him properly?" the elder asked.

"Riven didn’t give me the chance."

"What if he is a spy?"

"Shouldn’t be a problem. Any of us alone should be capable of dealing with him."

"Then why waste time bringing him here?" The elder asked, his voice tinged with irritation.

"He may not be as strong as us, but he isn’t weak either. And the sword he used. It looked like a fine weapon as well. If we can convince him to join in a raid to deal with the Jungle King, I think we will finally be able to retrieve the egg." Luna said.

At those words, the elder’s face lit up. "Are you sure?"

"I am optimistic about it. Chances are high."

"Okay. Then try to convince him. And once the egg is retrieved, either one of you can have him." The elder grinned.

"Won’t we get any share?" A man asked from the side. The elder glared at him. "Why don’t you bring someone into our village first?" The man went silent at that.

Meanwhile, Leon was walking alongside Riven. He noticed the strange stares of many on the road at him. ’Why do they look like they are seeing a human for the first time? Is there something wrong with me?’ He touched his face and hair in confusion.

Riven noticed it and chuckled. "Don’t worry. We normally don’t have visitors from outside the village, and we know everyone here within the village. They are just a bit unsettled to see someone from outside the village." He explained.

"I see." Leon nodded slightly but still felt like that wasn’t the full story. "Why do you have fewer visitors here in the village? Is it restricted?"

"Not at all. We are rather happy when someone visits us. We have fewer visitors, or almost zero visitors, because of the weather here. The village is said to be cursed."

"Cursed?" Leon asked in surprise.

"Yes. It wasn’t like this before. But since the Jungle King appeared, it became like this." He said in a broken voice. "The Jungle King guards a demonic egg. The egg sucks the nutrition and vitality from nature. You sure have noticed the dying trees and hard ground on your way here. People are dying of hunger and thirst."

"Then why don’t you just leave this village?"

"We can’t. Whoever leaves the village and goes beyond the outer boundary dies for some unexplainable reason. Nobody could leave the village alive since the Jungle King had arrived."

"What?" The word came out a bit loudly from Leon’s mouth. The shock was visible on his face. And who wouldn’t be shaken after hearing something like this? ’What kind of place is this? And what is the hidden task actually?’ Leon wondered.

"What if someone from other villages comes? They can’t leave as well?" Leon wanted to know what would happen to him. He believed in curses. After all, he himself had many curses on him. And at the moment, he had no intention of adding one.

"Others coming from outside of the village could leave. It’s just those of us who were already members of this village.

Soon they reached a house. "This is my home. Let’s go inside."

Leon nodded and followed behind him. Many questions swirled inside his mind without answers. But he decided to wait and watch the mystery unfold.

Riven guided Leon to a room. "You can stay here. I will arrange for some food."

"You don’t need to trouble yourself that much. I don’t need food."

"How can I let that happen? You are a guest here. You saved my life today. Taking care of you is the least I should do." He didn’t wait for Leon’s reply and left the room.

Leon stood alone. He looked through the window. Sunshine spilled through it. There was really a different kind of sensation even in the sunshine. It felt as though his skin was burning.

He checked the room. Normal brick walls, a wooden ceiling. Except for a bed, there was nothing else in the room. No light or fan either.

"System." Leon suddenly whispered.

[Yes, Host.]

"Do you have any idea what kind of place this is? Is this a hallucination or a real world? Is there really a curse? And what’s the hidden task to close the permanent gate I am inside?" He asked a lot of questions at once.

[A hidden power is restricting the system from revealing the answers.]

"A hidden power?" Leon whispered. He didn’t ask the system any more questions. For the moment.

He didn’t have to wait for long, as Riven soon returned. He was carrying a platter that had three types of fruit. Two boiled eggs. Roasted meat. And some rice. Other than the platter, he was carrying a mug of milk as well.

He quickly arranged the food on a mat on the floor.

"Please sit," Riven said.

Leon followed. Riven also sat before him. Seeing his expression, Leon felt like he wanted to say something.

"Is there anything you wish to say?" Leon asked.

"I hope it’s not asking for much. But can I make a request? And trust me, it has nothing to do with you staying here."

"You can just express yourself already." Leon was curious to know where this was going.

Riven thought for a while, as if arranging his sentences. Then he started. "I know it’s too selfish to ask something like this when you aren’t even from our village. But our village is in desperate need of help. Do you think you can join hands with us to defeat the Jungle King?
