Boooooom!
Leon’s body cratered into the wall. But he quickly pulled himself out and landed on the ground. For some reason, his eyes narrowed slightly. ’That punch just now! It had no killing intent!’ He mused inwardly before calling out the Demon Sword. ’He is tough. Let’s see if I can defeat him without berserk mode.’
Leon leaned forward slightly. "Fifth form. Sword aura." As he whispered, sword aura enveloped the sword.
But just as he was about to shoot forward, the monster before him spoke. "What are you doing, dumbass? Don’t tell me you can’t remember me."
Leon stopped and stared at the monster, confusion etching on his face. Seeing his expression, the monster was enraged. "Seriously? You really don’t remember me? So much for your shit about brotherhood." The monster slowly walked toward Leon. A glow erupted from the monster’s body as he transformed into a human.
The monster stopped before Leon. Leon also stood straight, staring at him. "For some reason, I have none of my past memories. Can you tell me what happened? Are we brothers?"
"We were. Not from the same mother, though. We had no blood relation but the same beliefs. Beliefs that made us fight together in many battles. Beliefs that made us bleed together."
Leon stared at him, not knowing what to say. The monster looked at Leon for a few seconds before waving his hand in dismissal. "Forget it. If you could remember, you wouldn’t have arranged for any of this. But..." His eyes reddened slightly. "Spade is still suffering in the Bazentine. You need to save him. Fast."
"Spade?" Leon asked in confusion.
Instead of replying immediately, the monster looked at the pool. "That egg... It contains some of your memories. Memories needed to know what you are supposed to do now. You wouldn’t feel it if I just told you."
"Memories? Not divine ability?"
"Divine ability? What are mere divine abilities compared to a freak remembering how freak he was? Just go ahead and grab that egg already. But remember..." The monster walked closer and placed a hand on Leon’s shoulder. "Don’t you dare let my sacrifice go in vain. And... And take care of Spade."
The more Leon heard, the more he felt puzzled. But he looked toward the pool. "That egg... It contains my memory?"
The monster chuckled. "Yes. Go ahead."
Leon had no idea what was going on and started walking toward the pool. ’If he wanted to, he could have killed me anytime. Let’s just see what’s really inside the egg.’
Leon didn’t bother about removing his clothes this time and directly jumped into the pool. He reached the egg and grabbed it. The moment the egg moved slightly, something shimmered in the cave.
The monster’s figure suddenly started fading at that moment. Tears fell from the corners of his eyes. ’Goodbye, my friend. I hope this time, you don’t lose anyone. This time, don’t leave any of them. In the afterlife, I will wait for you.’
By the time Leon got out of the pool, the monster had totally vanished.
Leon looked around hurriedly, searching the whole cave for the monster, but couldn’t find him. For some unknown reason, he felt his heart ache in pain. It was as if he had lost something valuable just now.
After some time, he looked at the egg in his hand. Smooth, shiny silver surface. It looked less like an egg and more like a metallic object. A hue of crimson glow enveloped it.
"My memories, huh?" Leon looked at the egg carefully, searching for an opening but found none. He sighed. "What am I even supposed to do with it? I can’t swallow something this big for sure. So there has to be some other means." He whispered.
[Drop your blood on the egg’s surface, Host.]
Just then, a notification popped up in the panel.
"Drop my blood?"
[Affirmative, Host.]
Leon looked back at the egg. As he focused, one of the daggers shot out from system storage and whistled in the air. As Leon straightened his palm, the dagger raked a shallow cut in his palm, blood welling from it.
Leon placed his wounded palm on the egg’s surface. The moment he did, and the moment his blood touched the egg’s surface...
Whooooooooooosh!
Energy rippled outside in a strong gust. The whole cave exploded outward due to the impact.
The crimson glow around the egg grew brighter. So bright that Leon closed his eyes due to its intensity.
Click!
A soft sound echoed. As Leon opened his eyes again, he found that the egg had cracked from the middle in a smooth line.
Leon slowly pulled both sides away. Another brilliant light erupted from inside the egg. As he completely separated the parts, three things dropped to the ground.
Two small crystals. Same as the transportation crystal Lamia had given him once. And the third object, another crystal. But a bit bigger. This one looked totally different. Silver smoke curled inside it slowly. A light wave of energy pulsed inside it.
Leon bent over and picked the third object, the big crystal. He couldn’t even stand straight before the crystal dissolved into smoke and entered Leon’s mind.
Leon felt an excruciating pain spreading in his mind. The pain didn’t fade and continued to increase.
Leon’s eyes rolled back as he clutched his head in agony.
Thud! His knees dropped to the ground.
"Aaahhhhhhhhhhhh." A scream left his mouth. His vision started to blur. And then...
He collapsed to the ground....
.....
Leon slowly opened his eyes again. But he found that the place he was in had totally changed. And not just this. He found that he had no control over his body.
Smoke curled up into the air before him, coming out of the same cigar that was placed in his mouth at the moment.
Leon found that he was sitting inside a tavern at the moment. People were gossiping and murmuring, loud laughter echoing at some tables.
Waitresses and waiters moved from table to table.
A pleasant aroma of tasty food filled the air.
Across from him, at another table, sat a man. The very same man the monster in the cave had shifted into.
