After being in a daze for a long time, Mercer finally spoke. "H-how did you collect all those five objects?"
"Good luck," Logan replied, his expression not changing at all.
"Good luck?" Mercer repeated with a self-deprecating laugh. He fell into deep thought before speaking again. "Alright then. We will start our journey toward the Thunder Valley tomorrow. I hope you can really obtain the Thunder Ghost for us. And if you can..." Instead of speaking, he looked toward Princess Lilith.
She understood what Mercer meant and spoke immediately. "If you can obtain the Thunder Ghost for us, the Sky Heart is yours."
"Are you sure?" Logan asked. "Don’t you think you should at least talk to your father, the King, about this first?"
"My father knows what situation we are in."
"But handing that weapon to your neighboring empire... What if they don’t respect the agreement to help you after they get the weapon? What if the person who wanted to marry you forces you to marry? Your father surely knows the present condition, but he might not be blind to the future threats as well."
At that, Lilith actually smiled instead of getting worried. "That weapon really is legendary. But that’s not the only weapon. There are a total of ten weapons throughout history that are known to be legendary. Some even believe that they are only myths. But no. These weapons do exist. The tenth weapon in the legendary list is a pair of Daggers. Raging Inferno’s Wings. Ninth in the list is an axe. The Void Slasher. Eighth in the list is a long sword. The Frost Monarch’s blade. Seventh is a hand fan. Storm Bringer. Sixth on the list is a pair of gauntlets known as Reaper’s Fist. Fifth is a spear called White Flash. The fourth is a scythe known as Dark Blood. The Thunder Ghost is ranked third. The second place is taken by a wand named Doom Weaver. And at the top stands a great sword. The mightiest creation of all time. The Demon Sword. Each weapon can change the fate of an entire empire or even a heaven. I am explaining it to you so that you can understand what these weapons stand for. Yes, giving the third-ranked weapon to a neighboring empire can turn out to be dangerous in the future. But we too have a legendary weapon. Dark Blood. The fourth-ranked weapon. So even with the weapon, they wouldn’t dare to go against us. That weapon is the only reason their prince hasn’t dared to force me into a marriage till now." Lilith explained in detail.
Logan meanwhile raised an eyebrow. "If you already have a weapon like that, why fear the monsters?"
"We don’t know about our enemies. What if they, too, have a legendary weapon? And considering the strength of Nexar, it wouldn’t be a surprise at all."
"I see. I am okay as long as you give me the Sky Heart in return. Rest, it’s totally your headache."
Lilith frowned slightly. "You do remember that you are standing before a princess, right?"
"I do."
"But your manners speak differently."
"I am from a distant village and lack proper royal etiquette."
Lilith didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Who admits that they do lack manners so up front?
"Alright, alright," Mercer said. "Let’s focus on the main issue. Tomorrow morning, we are leaving for the Thunder Valley then."
"How many men will we be taking, Mr. Mercer?" Princess Lilith asked.
"Not more than five Celestial Soul realm cultivators. The less we draw attention, the better."
"Okay, Mr. Mercer." Lilith nodded.
After that, Mercer and Logan left the room. Mercer guided Logan through the corridors and brought him to another room. "Let’s stay here for now. This is my room. I will arrange a separate room for you later on." Mercer said, and Logan didn’t object. Staying anywhere was okay for him. He was not here for luxury. He was here for a purpose.
The moment Mercer opened the door, a young boy who looked to be around seven or eight years old threw himself at Mercer. "Papa. You’re finally back. Did you bring Baklava for me?" The boy asked in an excited voice.
But Mercer’s expression froze immediately. He had forgotten that he was supposed to bring dessert for the kid before him. He scratched the back of his neck awkwardly. "Spade. The Baklava they prepared this time wasn’t that good. I tasted it, and it was awful." He said while forcing a smile. "How about I bring you along with me tomorrow, and you can eat the fresh baklava that’s prepared?"
The boy’s eyes instantly became teary. "Papa. You forgot. Again." A teardrop already rolled down.
"No, no, no, honey. I didn’t forget. Swear. Tomorrow you can have as many Baklavas as you want. This time they really didn’t taste good."
But the boy wouldn’t listen. And he was almost about to cry when a hand held a wrapped box before him.
"Here. Try this." Logan said.
Spade stopped and looked at Logan. Then at the wrapped box in his hand. It was tiny and fully sealed. Yet a sweet fragrance emerged from it. Just the scent alone was enough to make his mouth water, and he was already imagining what was inside. He slowly reached for the box, but before taking it, he looked at Logan once more. "A-are you sure I can take it? You wouldn’t mind?"
Logan shook his head.
Spade took it and slowly unwrapped the box. Inside was a square piece of golden-brown cake, its surface slightly crisp and glistening with syrup. The inside looked soft and moist, with a fine, grainy texture. A strong, sweet aroma drifted from it.
Spade slowly put it into his mouth with anticipation. Right after entering his mouth, the piece of cake melted instantly. Spade closed his eyes in ecstasy. Then snapped his eyes open again and looked at Logan. "Can I have some more?"
Logan’s ring shimmered as more wrapped boxes emerged. Spade happily took them all and went inside, skipping with joy.
Mercer looked at Logan. "Thanks a lot. You really saved me this time." Saying that, he also entered.
Logan stood there with a heartbroken expression.
’If she hadn’t died, then I would have had a kid this same age.’
