I Conquer Hell and Heaven With 666 Trillion Coins
Chapter 51: Aether is at WarThe man who had been looking at Dean and speaking these words suddenly bowed his head. Clearly, this was a move the others hadn’t expected.
There were many angels and a few humans present.
When everyone’s gaze was fixed on Dean, he finally opened his mouth and uttered the following words:
"I didn’t expect you to be alive."
As he spoke these words, the man finally raised his head and said, "And I didn’t expect to see you here, Sir Decanus."
As the man uttered the name ’Decanus’, the few remaining humans present also realised what was happening.
Each of them immediately found themselves pulling themselves together.
Although the angels’ stares never wavered from him for even a second, which was a little unnerving, Dean did not let it unsettle him.
On the contrary, if he were to be honest, he felt strangely proud.
"Who... is this Decanus?" one of the angels suddenly asked.
This angel was elderly, with a white beard, looking weary, and covered in blood.
As soon as the angel asked this question, Dean opened his mouth to introduce himself, but before he could say a word, one of the people in the group stepped forward and began to speak:
"A very mighty person, known as a man who has the backing of a Supreme-Goddess. He is incredibly rich and has many followers. He is known by the title "The Man Who Wears The Mist", and his name is Decanus."
At that moment, every angel’s gaze had once again fixed upon Dean.
Even Dean didn’t know he was being known like this.
The reason for this was not that he was very rich. It was the mention of the ’Supreme-Goddess’ that the man had made about him.
Within the Aether, there were perhaps fifty such individuals, and every one of them descended directly from the Creator’s bloodline. Some among them were also descended from the Titans, but such individuals were quite few and far between.
To say that a Supreme-Goddess was protecting someone did not merely mean that this person was under the watchful eye of a Chaos-Born; it also meant that this person was regarded as a Chaos-Born in their own right.
Of course, this would only apply if the person was genuinely being watched over by one of them.
"Is... that true?" another angel had asked.
Dean, however, curled his lip and said, "I’ve even been in the same bath as Nemesis." After all, he wasn’t lying.
He had, in fact, bathed in the very same bath as one of the Supreme-Goddesses and had personally watched the duels in the coliseum with her while laughing, drinking and eating together.
It was these words of his that had astonished the angels.
"So... she took you to her chambers, practically speaking..." remarked one angel.
In other words, it couldn’t be said that Dean had actually entered Nemesis’s chambers.
Although he didn’t realise it, the area where Nemesis’s bathroom was located was, in a dimensional sense, connected to her own home, her palace.
It was almost like a gate. When he took the wrong step and found himself in that bath, he practically teleported into such a place.
So when Dean entered that bathroom, he had effectively gained access to one of Nemesis’s most private and precious areas.
Literally her own palace.
That was what the angel had been trying to say.
Still, the whole ’chamber’ business undermined the validity of that claim.
After all, Dean wasn’t a pervert, and it couldn’t be said that he possessed the audacity to enter the bedroom of a Supreme Goddess herself.
Still, it was certain that a goddess like Nemesis, a second-generation divine...sacred being, was genuinely interested in Dean.
In her eyes, Dean was someone she could be friends with, and, however cruel it might be, a plaything she could watch over.
After all, no matter how you looked at it, someone as interesting as Dean didn’t turn up every day, especially not in front of a goddess.
"Meh... I don’t think I can say much about that," Dean had said quite matter-of-factly.
Immediately afterwards, he’d looked around carefully and asked, "Right then, is anyone going to tell me what’s going on in this dungeon?"
As soon as Dean asked this question, another person in the crowd looked at him strangely and asked, "Didn’t the game explain everything to you?"
"No... it just told me ’Survive or Die’," Dean replied.
These words took the people around him by surprise.
They’d never heard anything like it before.
Whether one person gained the chance to enter the dungeon later, or whether everyone entered the dungeon at the same time, together under the name of a ’game’, the system itself, the game itself, always gave them the same tasks.
"My task is to survive for a week in the battle, just like everyone else," he said.
After hearing these words, Dean didn’t know what to say.
He clearly remembered what his task was. He’d read the details of this quest... this task that had been given to him very clearly.
He was curious.
How could he not be?
"What is this place?" Dean had asked, turning directly to one of the angels.
The angel had replied without a moment’s hesitation:
[Maladie]
When translated, it meant ’Sickness’.
"Maladie?" Dean had asked.
"It is one of the places where the angels or their masters wage their territorial wars. As a human, you may not be aware of it, but many regions of Aether are at war. At present, this could be said to be the most dangerous of the three main realms," the angel had replied.
It had hit Dean like a blow to the stomach.
Still, he couldn’t help but ask:
"When you say... there is war in Aether, what exactly do you mean by that?"
"As I said. Whilst the Supreme gods and goddesses are few in number, and there are many High gods and goddesses, the number of lower-ranking beings is beyond comprehension, young master Decanus."
"So you’re saying that some of these gods or goddesses are fighting for power, is that it?" Dean had asked.
"Things are... MUCH more complicated, but yes, that’s essentially the gist of it," the angel had replied.
This did not quell Dean’s curiosity; if anything, it heightened it even further.
He looked at the barrier surrounding the area and saw that, despite the blows, it had not budged from its place.
That was why he had decided to find out more about the matter.
"Keep talking," said the young man; it sounded more like a command than a request.
It was a command to be obeyed.
