Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Three Dangerous Women

Mars was flabbergasted.

He hadn’t even been asked if he was okay with the arrangement, or anything close to it.

They’d signed the wedding contract on his stead, something he had no idea was even possible to begin with, and given him no time to prepare.

Faster than he could follow, guards from each Prime Family seized him and swiftly guided — more accurately, forced — him toward a black limousine just outside the building.

He tried speaking to anyone accompanying him...

"Can I at least call my father and mother? They must be worried sick." Mars asked the guards sitting on either side of him.

"Your parents are dead, Consort Fox." One of them said flatly.

’These bastards have done their homework, alright.’

"Well, what about my boss? He’s like a second father to me."

A blatant lie. He hated that fat pig, but he needed to try something.

However, Mars might have had better luck getting a stone to talk than these ice-faced bastards.

Yes, bastards. All of them!

He was growing irritated and, most definitely, afraid. He was unlucky enough to have been dragged into the political affairs of the Three Prime Families.

The same families descended from the First Seekers to ever exist, holding Gifts shaped by those very bloodlines.

They were strong and powerful, controlling multiple brands, and without a doubt, wielding influence far beyond that by controlling access to resources and Warrens completely off-limits to everyone else, through their Guilds.

And now here he was — a waiter from a rat-infested little restaurant, scraping by on minimum wage under a boss who kept getting fatter while he got thinner — about to marry the daughters of those very families.

His life had been pathetic, and he’d hoped awakening would change that. But even the Gift he’d received turned out to be nearly useless, low grade at that.

Shackles of Emotions. A D-grade Gift.

Who in the world cared about sensing other people’s emotions? Worse, his First Aspect only worked when the other person’s emotions were already running high. And it was passive. A rare type of Aspect, sure, but essentially useless in a fight.

Mars kept turning his life over in his mind, again and again, realizing just how pathetic it had been. Being an orphan buried in debt in today’s society was truly hell.

He should have felt lucky, given his current circumstances, surrounded by wealth. And truthfully, a guilty part of him was excited.

But Mars wasn’t a fool. This smelled like something designed to get him killed.

’What’s done is done. Let’s look at the bright side, I never thought I’d get married at all, given how poor I am. Now I am, and to three women from the most powerful families in existence. I just hope it’s not the same women I’m thinking of? It can’t be, right? I can’t be that cursed?’

Still, it was the dream of millions of men. He was living that dream.

But for how long?

That was the last question on his mind before the luxurious limousine finally rolled to a stop.

"We’ve arrived, Consort Fox." The guard said, stoic, before opening the door.

Mars followed in silence, his heart pounding so loudly in his chest he was afraid everyone could hear it.

Once outside, he stood on a paved surface, face to face with a stunning yet simple modern house, painted black and grey.

But Mars’s attention wasn’t on the house itself. However beautiful it was, his eyes couldn’t help but settle on the three women standing in front of the door, each spaced apart from the others.

His heart froze, his breath catching in his throat.

The one in the middle had purple hair and purple eyes, her heart-shaped lips curled into a small, flirty smile as she looked at him.

She wore a purple dress adorned with weathered flowers, four earrings on each ear, her long hair left completely loose, a piercing in her left nostril.

She raised her hand and waved at him, as though she’d known him forever.

Mars didn’t know what to do. He turned his head away quickly, anxious, and looked at the woman on the left.

Her face was calm, almost indifferent. Her hair was so black it seemed to vanish into the night, but her pink eyes were bright and piercing despite the coldness beneath them.

She wore round glasses that suited her face perfectly, paired with a white long-sleeved shirt and matching black pants.

She said and did nothing when their eyes met, staring at him like a statue rather than a person.

Mars grew more nervous and looked away again, finally settling on the third and last woman.

Golden hair, golden eyes, her face twisted with anger and venomous scorn, looking at him the way a human...

’...ah, I’ve already used that comparison, haven’t I? Damn it, like father, like daughter!’

The golden-haired woman wore a black sleeveless top and a skirt paired with detached black leggings, showing off her strong, powerful thighs.

She didn’t bother hiding her hostility.

After taking in each of them, Mars didn’t even need to be told who they were. And they were exactly who he’d feared they’d be.

But it seemed someone felt the need to tell him anyway.

"Consort Fox," the guard, who had stayed beside him the whole time, said with a bow, gesturing elegantly toward the three women, "these are Miss Solaris Lightbringer, Miss Moon Skygazer, and Miss Willow Rose."

The guard seemed to smirk as he finished.

"And they are, from this moment on, your wives."

’Yeah, no shit.’
