I Married Three Calamities (And Got A System For It)
Chapter 7: A dangerous gameChapter 7: Chapter 7: A dangerous game
Morning came faster than Mars would have liked. The sun was already up, glaring down at the earth, sending rays of light across the whole world.
Mars was the first to wake in the whole house. At least, he assumed so, since no one else had come to the living room yet.
The first thing he noticed after opening his eyes was another system Quest.
[Quest: Rules of the House.]
[Description: A house without rules is chaos. And maybe you don’t realize it, but chaos and Seeds of Calamity in the same place is a recipe for disaster.
Create rules with your wives to organize the household. You may do so however you please.]
[Rewards: Ring of Sunlight (C Rank)]
[Failure: +8% for Willow Rose and Moon Skygazer, +15% for Solaris Lightbringer.]
This time, Mars couldn’t help but ask the System why Solaris always got the highest percentage.
[She is mentally the weakest.]
That was all it said, nothing more.
Mars filed that information away and began thinking about house rules. While thinking, he cleaned the house of whatever mess it held.
Next, he checked the kitchen, wondering if there was anything to cook.
With his background as a waiter and years of living alone, he was a decent cook. At least good enough for a poor man like him.
Fortunately, there were some eggs, bacon, and a few other things. Though clearly not much.
’What’s going on? Did they only give us a house and enough provisions for a day?’ Mars thought, perplexed, ’What about money? Are we expected to earn it ourselves?’
It wasn’t a new concept to him, but he hadn’t expected the Prime Families to leave their daughters in such a state.
Sure, they were all troublesome and caused their share of problems, but abandoned like this?
Mars was at a loss.
He shook his head and hurried to finish cooking breakfast before the women decided to grace him with their presence.
A couple of minutes later, he was nearly done. That was when he felt arms wrap around his waist and a chin settle on his right shoulder.
"You woke up early and you’re already cooking breakfast for us." Moon said with a smile, "Aren’t you taking your role as husband seriously, sweetheart?"
Mars suppressed a shiver at her touch and voice. He smiled, drawing on the mental preparation he’d done that morning for exactly this kind of situation, and spoke:
"I woke up early and figured I’d do something for you." He said, "After all, I need to keep my wives fed, don’t I?"
Moon chuckled, "You already consider us your wives?"
"Aren’t you all my wives?"
"Aren’t you afraid?"
"Should I be?"
"Now that’s a billion-dollar question, sweetheart." Her voice dropped to a whisper, "Let me answer that a different way, shall I?"
Mars stayed quiet, steadying his heart, and nodded, "I’m listening."
She didn’t hesitate.
"First there’s our dear Solaris Lightbringer, second daughter of the bloody sun-worshipping Lightbringer family. Should I remind you how she nearly beat a random fan to death for touching her by accident? Or the time she used her Gift recklessly on camera because a woman dared to roll her eyes at her? Mind you, sweetheart, she burned that woman’s entire face in front of millions of people. It was on live."
Mars said nothing. He remembered that scandal clearly but hadn’t paid it much attention. He’d had far bigger problems than to waste time on some rich girl setting people on fire out of anger.
But now that rich girl was his wife. And he wasn’t sure if he should keep water within reach, just in case fire broke out again.
Moon wasn’t finished. And the more she talked, the more her hands wandered across his body.
"Then there’s Willow Rose," she continued, "the musical prodigy. The rumors are true, you know? Willow really can see sound, even taste it. Those abilities make her unrivaled in her field. However..."
She chuckled.
"...how many times have you heard about people who vanished, only to turn up dead a week later? All of them were last seen with Willow. All of them close to her."
"Those are all rumors." Mars tried not to panic.
"They’re true, sweetheart. Willow killed every one of them, and did it so quietly no one can point a finger at her, but everyone high-ranking enough knows. Don’t let her silence fool you. The Rose family are skilled assassins who enjoy killing. Willow’s worse than any of them when it comes to bloodlust."
Her right hand drifted up to his face, brushing his lips, while her left crept toward his thigh, dangerously close to his dick.
Mars clenched his jaw, feeling her finger trail sensually over his lips. He opened his mouth, nearly biting down on it, but grabbed her hand instead, turning to face her.
Their eyes met. Moon wore nothing but tight black shorts that showed off her figure perfectly, and a top that stopped well above her navel, baring her flat stomach and the piercing there.
She smiled at him, white teeth flashing, her hair pulled into a ponytail.
Mars didn’t let go of her hand. Instead, he drew it closer to his mouth and...
Moon’s eyes widened.
...he kissed it.
"O-Oh." She stammered, caught completely off guard.
"What about you?" Mars said, leaning in, willing his racing heart to calm down, "You told me why I should fear Solaris and Willow. What about you, Moon? Why should I fear you?"
"I’m harmless, sweetheart. There’s nothing to fear from me." She said, recovering her composure.
"Are you sure?" He pressed, "I’ve heard a few whispers myself."
"First lesson in noble life: never trust whispers."
"They seemed fairly accurate, though."
"Some people are excellent liars." Moon shrugged, "Or do you think I am dangerous?"
"Do you want me to lie, or be honest?"
"I prefer lies." She grinned, "So lie to me."
Mars was stunned for a moment before laughing shortly, "Just like you’re lying to me, right? Acting welcoming, acting interested. But all you really want is to use me as your toy."
"I take very good care of my toys."
"I won’t become your toy, Moon."
"You’re a waiter, sweetheart."
"I’m your husband now."
Moon paused, then nodded, "Confident, aren’t you? Then how about a game?" She smiled, "Just between you and me."
"What kind of game?" Mars asked, suspicious.
"Who becomes the other’s toy first." Moon whispered, "You...or me?"
"Are you that confident?"
"I’m Moon Skygazer, sweetheart." She said, her voice suddenly turning cold, "No man escapes my grasp if I don’t want him to."
Mars looked at her intently, sensing the dangerous position he was walking himself into.
But it was far too late to back out now. Far too late.
Better to just commit, and if he failed...
’Let’s consider the worst-case scenario...maybe being a toy wouldn’t be so bad?’
He winced inwardly. No. Definitely not.
"Are there any limits?"
"Limits?" She scoffed, her right hand smacking against his crotch, making him jerk upright, "No limits, sweetheart."
"You—!"
"What the fuck are you two doing?"
Mars was cut off as Solaris’s voice boomed through the room.
They turned to see her scowling at them, her body strangely crimson, as though she’d been standing too close to the sun. Steam curled faintly off her skin.
She wore only a long t-shirt reaching just above her knees, leaving her thick thighs bare for Mars to notice.
But he didn’t. Not right then, anyway.
Willow followed soon after, dressed in baggy pants that dragged along the floor and an equally baggy shirt with big black glasses, her black hair tied to a chignon.
Both women looked at Mars and Moon, standing far too close to each other.
Mars was about to offer an excuse when Moon beat him to it.
"Why so surprised? We’re married, aren’t we?" She said, cupping his cheek like a devoted lover, "If we wanted, we could even do it right here. Would you like to watch?"
"You’ll never change, will you?" Solaris sneered, "You’re nothing but a whore."
"And you taught me everything I know, Solaris."
"You bitch—!"
"Breakfast is ready!" Mars cut in, gently pushing Moon’s hands from his face, "Please, take a seat in the kitchen. Let’s eat first, then talk. We’ve got a lot to discuss."
He didn’t wait for a response, moving to set the table, saying nothing more.
But before he did, he leaned toward Moon and whispered,
"No limits, then."
Moon’s face broke into a wide grin.
’This is going to be fun.’
