I Reincarnated As A Dragon With A Devourer System

Chapter 33: First Time Using Dragon Language

Seven more days had passed since Noir began his recovery in the cave.

Seven more days of eating all kinds of herbs, roots, fruits, and magical flowers, as if he were truly a vegetarian dragon.

And there was never a shortage of arguments with that damn golden sphere, which never missed a chance to annoy him.

’I swear, one day I’m going to devour it; I’m going to enjoy it like never before... but that little bastard is just too slippery.’

But... the little black dragon is doing much better.

Yes, sure, he’s still missing a few scales, and there were visible cracks in others, but those were just minor details, right?

What mattered to him was that they no longer hurt with every movement.

Noir flexed his front legs, stretched his wings, and smiled contentedly, as if he were a very unique-looking cat.

’Much better.’

He hadn’t fully recovered. But he no longer looked like a dragon who might die from sneezing too hard.

A few meters away, the little white wolf also looked much better.

He was already walking without limping as much.

At one point, he had even tried to bite his tail.

Noir still wasn’t sure if that was a sign of affection...

Or an assassination attempt.

But the little dragon didn’t care one bit about that suspicion.

’As long as it doesn’t try to attack me, everything’s fine, and I’ve always wanted to have a wolf as a friend.’

’Well... what do I do now? I’ve already explored the area and devoured all the magical plants.’

Noir stood still, feeling the mana-rich air gently caress his scales; he didn’t know what to do at that moment, and boredom was killing him.

’Wait... how could I forget something so basic? I’m such a mess—like a reincarnated Earthling.’

Of course, the little black dragon was referring to magic... Magic! Important things need to be said twice.

Besides, with the mana reserves it currently has, the little dragon can use Dragon’s Language without passing out... probably.

’Everything that exists has a Concept, and every Concept has a Word, and every Word possesses power.’

’But wait! I’m a dragon! I have the ability to speak directly to the world.’

Noir ran his tongue over his teeth, a smile playing on his lips.

He was going to start—first with the basics.

He braced himself on all four legs, digging his claws into the ground. Excitement and nerves mingled in his chest as all his attention focused on Dragon Language.

He could feel the mana surrounding him responding to his will. He slowly opened his jaws and uttered a single word:

"Fire."

WHOOOOOOOSH!

A violent column of flames burst forward with the roar of a storm. The air warped from the scorching heat as the fire devoured everything in its path.

Exhaustion hit him, and he felt dizzy from the fatigue of uttering a single word.

’Damn it! Almost all my mana just went down the drain.’

Noir tried to move his little feet, but he could barely stay upright.

But... he didn’t pass out!

That was a huge step forward for the little dragon, who had fainted the first time he used Dragon Language magic.

’Kakakaka! I’m making progress!’ Noir’s red eyes sparkled with excitement; he hadn’t hit a plateau.

The little dragon moved one claw, then the other; he was still dizzy... But he was still conscious; a huge smile spread across his face.

’It worked!’

’I wonder when I’ll be able to use this magic freely.’

His interest in magic was growing—and not just in dragon magic; he was curious about what other kinds of magic were like: that of humans, elves, giants, and more.

’Well, well... HAHAHAHA~!’

He burst out laughing in his mind; Noir was ecstatic about having used magic for the first time.

’Now this is magic.’

’Not those cheap video game tricks where you shoot a little fireball every three seconds.’

’Now this really explodes the way it’s supposed to!’

The golden sphere then appeared and began to spin with unusual enthusiasm.

Then it dashed off into the woods, ran a few meters, and stopped. And it repeated the same process.

’You’ll have to wait; I need to recover.’

The golden sphere gave off an annoying glow, but since she was so kind and understanding, she could wait until he recovered.

’...’

Noir sighed, unable to believe it—as if it were becoming more and more shameless with each passing moment.

Once his mana had been restored, Noir looked at the little white wolf, then at the golden orb that was beginning to show them the way.

Then they began to follow the orb.

The farther they walked, the stranger the landscape became.

The enormous green trees began to disappear little by little.

In their place grew completely white trunks, with bark so smooth it looked as if it had been carved from glass.

The leaves had changed, too.

They weren’t green.

They were translucent.

When the wind rustled them, they made a soft sound, like tiny pieces of glass clinking together.

Noir raised an eyebrow slightly.

’This valley really doesn’t know how to be normal.’

They kept walking for nearly an hour.

Then something unexpected happened: a tiny white particle fell slowly in front of his snout.

It wasn’t dust... much less snow.

Noir caught it with a claw.

The tiny particle dissolved instantly, transforming into a faint stream of mana that vanished into his body.

"!!"

The little dragon slowly raised its head. Thousands of tiny white particles were falling from the sky.

That strange, glowing snowfall covered everything. It didn’t make the air any colder, nor did it wet the ground.

It simply floated with an almost hypnotic slowness before dissolving upon touching any surface.

The pup’s eyes widened, and it began trying to catch some with its snout.

It jumped once, but... unfortunately, it didn’t manage to catch any.

Noir watched the scene for a few seconds.

’...’

’It’s officially the worst hunter I’ve ever seen.’

The little wolf immediately turned his head and looked at him indignantly.

Noir whistled innocently as he kept walking.

The golden sphere continued to guide them until they reached a small clearing.

In the middle of the clearing grew a plant completely different from all the others.

Its leaves were white, almost transparent, and specks of that manna snow kept appearing around its petals.

The Draconic Senses reacted instantly; that plant contained an enormous amount of magical energy.

Noir smiled.

’Now we’re talking.’

He carefully tore off one of the leaves, automatically activated Devourer, and took a bite. The taste was strange, fresh, and light.

It was as if he were chewing on a snowflake mixed with sweet herbs... even though he had never eaten snow before.

A pleasant sensation immediately washed over his entire body. The slight discomfort he still felt in several of his wounds subsided a little.

The familiar window appeared before his eyes.
