The massive building of the Adventurers’ Guild stood before them, bustling with activity.

Men and women constantly came and went.

Noir stood completely still. His eyes scanned the place with genuine fascination.

’How curious.’

It wasn’t just the building.

It was everything that was happening around it.

A group of adventurers was getting off a wagon as they unloaded the enormous shell of a creature that looked like a cross between a beetle and a turtle.

Nearby, a woman with blue hair was arguing with a blacksmith about the size of a sword so large that Noir doubted a normal human could even lift it.

Further away, several merchants were haggling over the price of vials filled with glowing liquids. At the same time, tiny squirrel-like creatures with small, transparent wings flitted among the stalls, stealing fruit, without anyone seeming too concerned.

Everything was teeming with life.

Noir smiled; he loved it. Now he wanted to live the life of an adventurer and explore dungeons.

’What would the dungeons be like? Simple? Or would each one be a unique setting?’

Just by looking at this city, the young black dragon couldn’t imagine what a normal dungeon would be like, since this had shown him that it could be the exact opposite.

’Well, well, this is exactly what a fantasy world should be like—full of mysteries and incredible things.’

Noir slowly climbed down from the carriage, and no sooner had his paws touched the stone floor than a new wave of smells flooded his senses.

"..."

The young dragon closed his eyes for a moment.

’What an organized mess!’

Every corner seemed to tell a different story. No two people were alike, nor were any two creatures.

Even the conversations seemed to blend into one another, forming a strange murmur that was impossible to follow.

A burst of laughter rang out behind him.

Noir turned his head slightly.

A huge, bearded man was raising a mug as he celebrated with other adventurers. A few meters away, a young elf was selling small crystals that changed color every time someone touched them.

’This place...’

It was impossible to get bored. He didn’t even know where to look first.

Arlene also stepped down from the carriage and took a deep breath as she gazed at the building.

"It’s been a while since I’ve been back."

Noir nodded slightly.

"Do you come here often?"

"Not really."

The half-human shook her head gently.

"But most of the important requests come through here."

The young dragon looked again at the enormous emblem hanging above the entrance.

’It must be important.’

As he continued to stare at it, a group of adventurers came laughing out the front door. One of them had a huge boar’s head slung over his back. Another was dragging a sack that moved on its own, as if something were still alive inside it.

Noir followed the coat with his eyes until it disappeared into the crowd.

"..."

The more he looked at the city... the more convinced he became that he knew only a tiny fraction of that world.

Then he took a step toward the guild’s entrance.

Arlene raised a hand before he could keep moving forward.

"...Not so fast."

Noir stopped and looked at her curiously.

"What’s going on?"

The semi-human slowly pointed to his horns, then to the wings folded beneath his cloak, and finally to his tail.

"...Did you really think you could just walk in like that? Besides, you and your friend have to check in."

Noir stood motionless for a few seconds. Then he slowly raised a claw until it touched one of his horns. His expression changed very little, but it was clear he was thinking.

"That’s true."

Arlene looked at him with a mixture of relief and resignation.

"You really hadn’t thought about it?"

"No."

The answer came immediately.

"I thought the cloak would be enough."

The half-human let out a small sigh.

"The cloak helps... but it can’t work miracles."

She discreetly pointed toward the guild’s entrance.

"Look around."

Noir obeyed. Now that he was paying closer attention, he noticed something he had completely overlooked before.

Several people were guarding the entrance.

They didn’t look like ordinary guards.

They wore light armor, covered in green cloaks, and each had a small silver emblem on their chest.

None of them spoke much. They watched.

"..."

Noir looked at Arlene again.

"They’re pretty attentive."

"It’s their job."

She crossed her arms.

"The guild handles a lot of money. It also takes in live monsters, rare materials, magical artifacts, and wanted individuals."

She paused briefly.

"They don’t let just anything in."

Noir nodded slowly. That made sense, but it didn’t make it any less annoying. Since he wants to learn more, he’ll have to follow the city’s rules. After all, he’s a civilized and very rational dragon.

"Well then, let’s go register."

Arlene looked back at the guild’s entrance.

"Leave it to me."

Noir nodded without protest.

"Perfect."

The young woman discreetly pointed toward a small stone building next to the main gate.

"Not all escorts need to register with the guild. First, we have to go through the control office."

The young dragon followed the direction of her finger.

It was a much smaller building than the main guild. Several people were lined up in front of a wooden counter while two officials reviewed documents and handed out small metal tags.

There didn’t seem to be much of a wait.

Arlene started walking.

Noir and Uki followed her.

As they walked along, more than one person gave them a curious look. The enormous cloak hid much of the dragon’s body, but Uki’s size still drew quite a bit of attention.

Even so... No one said anything.

When it was finally her turn, a middle-aged man looked up from some papers.

He was wearing a gray tunic with the guild’s emblem embroidered on the chest.

"Good morning."

Arlene gave a slight nod.

"I need to register two traveling companions."

The official picked up a pen.

"Name."

"Arlene."

The man wrote a few lines, then looked up again.

"Slaves? Summonings? Magical familiars?"

Noir blinked.

"Arlene has quite a few options."

The half-human shook her head calmly.

"None."

She paused briefly.

"They’re comrades."

The official raised an eyebrow, clearly surprised. It was an unusual response. His gaze drifted down to Uki. Then, toward the figure shrouded in the black cloak.

"..."

He didn’t ask too many questions.

He had learned many years ago that adventurers brought back things far too strange to be surprised by everything.

He held out two small bronze-colored cards.

"Temporary registration."

Arlene took them.

"Renew every thirty days as long as you remain in the city."

The young woman nodded gratefully.

"Understood."

The man stamped one last seal on a document.

"Welcome to Greenhollow."

Arlene carefully put both plaques away and left the building.

Once outside, she handed one of them to Noir.

The young dragon examined the small metal plaque between his claws.

It had no intricate designs.

Just a number.

And the seal of the Adventurers’ Guild.
