The training room of the Elfier Kingdom palace.

Aldes hopped lightly in place. He moved his neck left and right, cracking his joints. His right hand tightly gripped a wooden sword. His eyes stared straight ahead.

On the other side of the arena, Illfa lowered her stance. She took a combat posture. The wooden sword in her hand was enveloped in orange flames. A wave of hot air immediately spread, burning the oxygen around her. A wide smile was clearly plastered on the woman's face.

"Are you sure, Aldes? You want me to use fifty percent of my power?" asked Illfa with a loud voice.

Aldes did not answer verbally. He raised his left hand and motioned with his index finger, gesturing for Illfa to come forward.

Flames flared brightly on the soles of Illfa's feet.

*Sst.*

*Dash.*

Illfa's body dashed forward very fast, crashing through the air. Stinging hot air immediately hit Aldes's face. Illfa swung her flaming sword horizontally, aiming for Aldes's chest.

Aldes focused his mind. He channeled his telekinetic energy to thicken his weapon's layer. He blocked the slash.

*Clang.*

A loud clash occurred. Sparks scattered into the air. A strong vibration traveled down to Aldes's palm.

"Heh, not bad, not bad!" shouted Illfa.

Illfa added pressure to her sword, forcibly pushing Aldes's body back. She did not waste a beat. Illfa slashed from the left. Aldes tilted his body and dashed to the right to dodge.

*Swish.*

The tip of Illfa's sword cut through empty air. Illfa pivoted on her heel and unleashed a barrage of slashes aimed at Aldes's face. Aldes moved backward while twirling his weapon to parry the slashes.

*Clang.*

*Clang.*

"Oi, oi, how long are you going to keep defending!" shouted Illfa while continuing to press her attack.

"Stop yelling," Aldes said flatly. His eyes kept watching the movement of Illfa's shoulders.

*Dash.*

Aldes retreated five meters, distancing himself from the sword's reach. Illfa refused to give him empty space. The fire on her feet flared brightly again. She dashed, catching up to Aldes. A technical exchange of attacks resumed in close quarters.

*Clang.*

*Slash.*

*Rip.*

Their wooden swords scraped against each other. The tip of Illfa's sword managed to pierce his defense. The hot wooden tip tore the fabric of Aldes's sleeve and scratched the skin of his waist. A stinging pain and the sensation of burnt skin struck Aldes's nerves.

Aldes stepped backward again. Seeing her opponent take distance, Illfa immediately lunged forward, swinging her sword from an overhead position.

At that moment, Aldes raised his left hand, aiming right at Illfa's face.

*Fwoosh.*

*Blast.*

A shot of hot laser energy shot straight from Aldes's palm.

"What." Illfa's eyes widened. She reflexively forced her spine to tilt backward. The laser beam missed by a hair, grazing past her shoulder. The sudden evasive maneuver threw Illfa's posture off balance. Her stance spread wide open.

Exploiting the opening, Aldes dashed forward. He swung his wooden sword, aiming horizontally for the side of Illfa's neck.

Instead of blocking, Illfa leaned her head forward. She opened her mouth. She bit the blade of Aldes's wooden sword with her rows of sharp teeth. The swing of Aldes's sword stopped instantly. The smell of charred wood wafted in the air.

Aldes immediately released his right-hand grip from the sword hilt. He focused his telekinetic energy to wrap around his fist. Without pause, he unleashed a heavy punch toward the side of Illfa's head.

*Thud.*

A solid impact was heard. The energy-coated punch struck Illfa's jaw. The wooden sword slipped and fell from the woman's mouth. Illfa's body was sent flying into the air from the momentum of the punch.

Aldes concentrated his telekinesis on his own body. His feet lifted off the stone floor. He flew into the air, chasing after Illfa. He twisted his hips, unleashing a straight kick aiming for her stomach.

Mid-air, Illfa responded quickly. She crossed her wooden sword in front of her stomach to block the kick.

Illfa's hands were now fully occupied holding the sword to block the pressure of Aldes's foot. Realizing his opponent's condition, Aldes raised his right hand forward again. He pointed his fingers right in front of Illfa's chest.

Aldes snapped his thumb and index finger.

*Boom.*

A wave of telekinetic energy exploded forcefully. The invisible push of energy hit Illfa dead on. The woman was thrown violently backward and crashed hard against the stone wall of the room.

*Crash.*

Aldes deactivated his telekinetic energy. The soles of his feet stepped back onto the stone floor. He walked calmly approaching Illfa.

"Oi, are you okay?" asked Aldes. He extended his right hand downward.

Illfa fell silent for a moment. Her eyes blinked rapidly, processing the hard slam. She sat leaning against the stone wall, staring at Aldes's hand in front of her.

"I am fine," Illfa answered quietly.

She grabbed Aldes's hand and pulled herself up to stand straight.

"Let us rest first. You lost your focus because we have been training for three hours," Aldes said with a flat expression.

"But." Illfa's words stopped. She let out a long sigh, relaxing her shoulders. "Alright."

The two of them walked to the edge of the training arena. Both sat side-by-side on a long bench. Aldes opened his water bottle and gulped down the cold water, wetting his throat. He then took a piece of bread filled with roast meat.

"By the way, what happened yesterday. I heard the city was sealed. You killed that envoy, didn't you," Illfa asked, breaking the silence. She stared at the side profile of Aldes's face.

Aldes swallowed his food slowly. "Were you not at the location. You saw it yourself. Why are you still asking."

Aldes turned his head. "Then what about that letter. Have you reported it to the Guardians."

Illfa frowned. She looked at Aldes with a puzzled expression. "You do not know?"

"What do you mean."

"Hey, you really do not know?" Illfa's voice raised. Her face showed a mix of shock and confusion.

"What. Why," Aldes replied quickly.

"All the Guardians, including me, vanished yesterday, idiot. When would I have the time to report that letter."

Aldes's jaw movement stopped. "What. What do you mean vanished."

"Just disappeared like that. Suddenly. Everyone." Illfa moved both her hands in the air.

"Everyone?"

"Yes." Illfa nodded firmly, looking at Aldes. Her eyes then glanced toward the meat bread in the young man's hand. "By the way, who cooked this meat bread. The aroma is good."

"Finea," Aldes answered briefly. "Continue your story."

"When I was rushing toward the palace, suddenly my view changed. I was teleported to a dense forest. After that, several high-level monsters came and attacked me. Of course, because I am strong, I killed them all. About thirty minutes later, I was back on the city streets."

Illfa pointed at the piece of meat bread with her chin. "May I have the rest of your bread."

Aldes handed over the rest of the bread.

Illfa accepted it and immediately took a bite. "Captain Klaus then ordered us all to gather and report. It turned out that all the Guardians experienced the same incident. We all vanished at the exact same time."

"Then I heard the details of the actual incident from the citizens' gossip and direct information from Klaus this morning," Illfa added while chewing.

Aldes shifted his gaze, staring at the stone floor in front of his shoes.

*That is undoubtedly Villavia's doing.*

Aldes pieced together the fragments of information in his head.

*So that is the reason Tominus stepped down personally. Wait. Why would Villavia help the Viona envoy.*

"How romantic of you two," said a deep voice from the direction of the entrance.

Aldes and Illfa turned their heads simultaneously. A man stood leaning against the door frame. The man had short white hair. He wore an all-blue combat uniform and a red cloak on his back. A black eyepatch covered his left eye. Captain Klaus.

"Ah, Captain!" Illfa immediately jumped to her feet. She bowed her head, offering a slightly stiff gesture of respect.

Klaus sighed softly. "Your diligence is to be appreciated."

Aldes also stood up from the wooden bench. "What is it. Are you going to train us today."

Klaus straightened his posture and folded both his arms in front of his chest. His eyes stared straight at them. "His Majesty wishes to speak with the two of you."
