Amor let out a long sigh. "You guys really won't give me any peace."
"Fine. What do I get if I tell my experience? A bond with you all?"
Mila smiled. She rested her chin on her palm and looked straight into Amor's eyes. "Anything you want from me."
"Be by my side," Amor replied flatly. He shifted his sitting position and swept the tip of his brush over the cloud area on the canvas. His movements were precise and slow.
Mila's pupils dilated. "Excuse me?"
Leafa covered her mouth with one hand. "Oh, Amor."
Illfa coughed softly. Her drink almost sprayed out. She swallowed the remaining water in her mouth with difficulty. "Amor? I didn't realize."
Mila raised an eyebrow. "Oh, are you hitting on me?"
Turns out a guy like him can fall in love, Aldes thought to himself.
Amor stopped his brushstrokes. He turned slowly to look at Mila. "Do you guys think I'm hitting on her?"
Amor turned his face away and went back to painting. "I hate socializing. You know, I hate it when I go grocery shopping or whatever it is, I have to talk to fake people. Sometimes I just want to punch them right then and there."
Amor placed his brush on the table. "I want Mila to handle all of that."
Aldes nodded slowly. "So you want Mila to order food for you, order things, and be your voice."
Amor pointed at Aldes with the handle of his brush. "Exactly."
Mila jutted out her lower lip and let out a harsh sigh. "Good grief."
"And here I thought it was just a story. But—"
"Yes or no," Amor cut in quickly.
"Alright. Taking care of someone strong and handsome." Mila winked. "I'm sold."
Leafa bit into the piece of fruit in her hand. "Looks like a new couple."
Amor placed his color palette next to the canvas. He turned his body and looked at his teammates one by one with a piercing gaze.
"At that time, I was given a mission to exterminate demons in one of the kingdom's cities."
Amor took a piece of bread from the wooden basket in the middle of the table. "His Majesty assigned me alongside Squad Three of the Guardians. Back then, my level was still fifty. I was the only one chosen from Division Seven."
Mila straightened her back instantly. "You were from Division Seven? Someone as strong as you?"
"I didn't know that." Illfa widened her eyes. "I thought you were an anomaly who suddenly entered Division Zero."
"I rarely talk about my past." Amor bit into his bread and chewed slowly.
"Division Seven..." Illfa muttered with a trembling voice. "He..."
Amor swallowed his food. "The city was inhabited by shape-shifting demons. They turned humans into demons and made them slaves."
"When we first arrived, we didn't see a single demon."
Amor tilted his head to the right. The veins in his neck were clearly visible beneath his skin. "Four days we were there, there were no signs of demon presence."
"We patrolled every day. Forcing ourselves not to sleep."
"Until one of us fell asleep from exhaustion."
"And automatically, the others followed."
"I still couldn't believe the situation was safe, so I forced myself to stay awake."
"Hold on, let me get a drink." Amor picked up a glass of iced chocolate. He drank it until it was half empty. The sound of ice cubes clinking against the glass was clearly heard in the room that had begun to fall silent.
"That night, I noticed my comrade Ghoas acting strangely. He was too calm. He seemed relaxed and persuaded us to leave the city immediately."
"Eventually, slowly all my comrades became like that."
Amor looked into the eyes of his teammates one by one. "I want you to imagine what happened next."
"Done?"
Leafa, Illfa, and Mila nodded simultaneously.
They actually did what he said, Aldes muttered in his heart. He stared at Amor with full vigilance.
Amor raised his right hand. He snapped his fingers in the air repeatedly.
Click. Click. Click.
"According to protocol and the absolute order from His Majesty. If your comrade acts strangely, kill them."
"At night when everyone was asleep, I took him to an open field."
"Without saying a single word, I punched his face with full force."
"He staggered back, spat out blood, then smiled at me. He said, 'Since when did you realize?'"
Amor pressed his fingers against the wooden table. "We fought fiercely there. I kicked his knee until his leg bone snapped and pierced through the skin. He tore my left arm with his long claws. I pinned him to the ground, choked his neck, and smashed his skull with my bare hands repeatedly until his face was ruined."
"I cut his neck. I brought his head to the village square and raised it high."
"Then all the villagers came out of their houses. The merchants and guards gathered. My comrades came too. Including the woman I loved. The woman who, at that time, was my sole purpose in life."
"They all stood surrounding me. Staring at me in silence."
"One by one, the skin on their faces and bodies peeled off and fell to the ground. Their bodies grew larger, tearing their own clothes apart, and transforming into black-horned monsters."
"In that second, I realized one thing."
"From the very beginning, there were no humans in this city. My comrades had also been eaten and completely transformed."
"My stomach churned. I collapsed to the ground."
"I couldn't say anything. My hands trembled holding the hair of Ghoas's head."
Amor tilted his head up, staring at the room's ceiling made of carved wood.
"Long story short, I killed them all that night."
"My level jumped from fifty to one hundred."
"I lost an arm and a leg. I bled out and almost died."
"No. I'm certain I actually died right then."
"The moment my vision faded and I was about to fall, Klaus arrived with his squad."
"I collapsed to the ground. When I opened my eyes again, I was already on a palace bed. His Majesty was standing right beside me."
