Immortal Travel of Longevity

Chapter 1355: Merely a Passing Traveler

In this vast world, Chen Changsheng was always alone.

He would often stare blankly at the boundless horizon, struck by the occasional thought that this Mortal World was far less expansive than heaven and earth.

A person was as insignificant as dust and grit—scattered by the wind, never to be found again.

He walked this road completely alone.

Over the years, his legs had become his brush and ruler, measuring out this boundless world while committing it to paper.

For a person to do even one thing well in a lifetime was far from easy.

And Chen Changsheng was doing exactly that. It had been nothing more than a sudden whim; the thought arose, and so he had set out on this path.

He just wanted to do one thing well.

Within the city, there was a babel of voices.

According to legend, Nine Winds City was close to the Desolate Sea. Over the course of the year, nine great gales would sweep in, giving the city its name.

Crowds gathered here, making it a city much like Qingyuan. Yet compared to Qingyuan, this place was far more suited for those without Dao Cultivation. Because the immortals of Nine Winds Mountain kept order locally, no one dared to act recklessly here.

Chen Changsheng took a seat in a city tavern. Xiao Er waited at his side, asking what he would like to eat and drink.

"I've heard that your Nine Winds City has a specialty wine called Nine Winds Reverie," Chen Changsheng said. "Everyone who tastes it praises it without exception. I wonder, does your tavern have it?"

Xiao Er smiled upon hearing this. "You've come to the right place, guest. Nine Winds Reverie originates from this very tavern."

"Oh?"

"However, guest, this wine of ours is a bit expensive."

"How much?"

"One low-grade Yin and Yang Coin gets you two pots of Nine Winds Reverie."

"Yin and Yang Coins?"

Chen Changsheng stared blankly for a moment.

"You don't know of Yin and Yang Coins, guest?" the shop hand asked.

Chen Changsheng opened his mouth, then said, "This Chen was merely wondering if they are the same Yin and Yang Coins that This Chen knows."

The shop hand chuckled. "It's normal for you not to know, guest. Previously, we always settled accounts with spirit stones. We only changed it in the past couple of years. The concept behind the Yin and Yang Coins is that Yin-Yang Qi is integrated into these Copper Coins, forging them into currency. Because this Yin-Yang Qi perfectly harmonizes with the cultivation methods and spiritual roots of all cultivators, requires no mining, and has great utility, it's far more convenient for circulation. Thus, Yin and Yang Coins have become the premier choice of currency."

Chen Changsheng thought for a moment before asking, "Who exactly introduced these Yin and Yang Coins?"

"It was proposed by the Painting Immortal, Wu Daozi."

"I must say, it's quite an ingenious method," the shop hand added. "Nowadays, half the world has already begun using Yin and Yang Coins for transactions between cultivators. It's far more convenient than before."

Chen Changsheng came to an understanding.

"If you don't have Yin and Yang Coins, guest, paying with spirit stones is also fine," the shop hand offered.

Chen Changsheng considered it for a moment, then fished a Yin and Yang Coin from his sleeve and placed it on the table.

"Take a look at this Yin and Yang Coin. How much is it worth?"

The shop hand reached out, pinching the coin to examine it in his palm, and immediately froze in shock.

"Ah!"

The Yin and Yang Coin resting in his palm was incredibly pure—far purer than even the highest-grade coins he had ever seen.

"This, this..."

The shop hand gaped in disbelief. Not daring to keep it, he hurriedly handed the Yin and Yang Coin back to Chen Changsheng.

"Please put this away first, guest. I will go fetch the proprietor."

Chen Changsheng nodded, paying it little mind.

Shortly after, the tavern proprietor arrived before Chen Changsheng.

After placing the Yin and Yang Coin in his palm and examining it closely, he too turned pale with shock.

"Heavens! I've only ever seen one Yin and Yang Coin this pure in the hands of the Painting Saint, Wu Daozi. To think I would come across another today..."

Recovering his wits, the proprietor quickly bowed and asked, "I haven't yet asked for the Immortal's name."

"Chen Changsheng."

"It's far too noisy out here, quite beneath your status as an Immortal. Please, Immortal, head upstairs to a private room to dine."

Chen Changsheng offered a helpless smile. "This Chen merely wishes to taste your wine."

Seeing this, the proprietor didn't press the issue. He immediately ordered someone to fetch the wine.

The proprietor was a tactful man and had no intention of accepting Chen Changsheng's money. Instead, he said, "I won't accept any money for this pot of wine, Mister. I only hope that after tasting it, you might offer some critique so that I can improve upon it."

"How could that be proper? Where is the logic in drinking wine without paying?"

"Guest, even if you paid, I couldn't possibly give you change."

The proprietor laughed helplessly. A Yin and Yang Coin of such extreme purity was worth more than he was.

"Just try the wine first, guest."

Seeing this, Chen Changsheng didn't argue further and poured himself a cup.

He gazed down at the crystal-clear liquid. It rested in his cup like a bright mirror, wafting an intoxicating aroma laced with notes of fruit. He raised the cup and let it flow down his throat. Crisp and sweet, it felt like a gentle breeze brushing past, bringing a profound sense of comfort to body and mind. As he savored the aftertaste and exhaled, a refreshing coolness rippled through his entire body.

In an instant, the summer heat faded completely, leaving behind only the crisp coolness of spring and autumn.

"Wonderful..."

Chen Changsheng stared at the cup of wine. Before he even realized it, a rush of intoxication welled up within him. Accompanied by a pleasant trace of grogginess, his mind completely unwound.

Ultimately, Chen Changsheng couldn't offer a single word of criticism.

He couldn't find a single flaw to pick at. To him, this was the finest wine he had ever tasted in all his years wandering the Cultivation World.

The proprietor didn't pester him for a critique. He simply sat down and drank with Chen Changsheng. As the two drank and chatted, they unwittingly emptied three pots of wine.

A deep buzz of drunkenness washed over Chen Changsheng, his words slightly slurred as he spoke.

He had walked into the tavern perfectly sober, but he stumbled out the door thoroughly drunk.

Before he left, he handed that Yin and Yang Coin to the proprietor.

He didn't make a habit of drinking for free.

The proprietor saw the man out the door. Although he had taken a loss on this transaction, a man who could casually produce such a high-grade Yin and Yang Coin was vastly more important than a few pots of wine.

"Proprietor, proprietor!"

The shop hand came running out. "When I was cleaning the table, I found this beneath the wine pot!"

The proprietor looked down. Wasn't that the exact same Yin and Yang Coin?

He stared blankly for a second before letting out a helpless chuckle.

He carefully tucked the Yin and Yang Coin away and gazed off in the direction the Immortal had gone, murmuring, "A true Supreme Immortal..."

"Proprietor," the shop hand ventured, "if he accidentally left this Yin and Yang Coin behind, isn't it a bit wrong for us to keep it?"

"Fool."

The proprietor chided him. "Consider who he is. How could he possibly forget it? And why would it be tucked beneath the wine pot?"

The shop hand blinked. "Then the next time he comes, we just won't charge him?"

The proprietor merely shook his head.

"We still charge him?"

"No," the proprietor replied softly.

The proprietor said, "Perhaps he won't ever return."

"Ah?"

The shop hand looked bewildered.

"You work the front hall," the proprietor said, "yet your ability to read people is still far from sufficient. This Immortal carried an air of absolute freedom, completely unlike the ordinary Priests of the Immortal Mountain. One look was all it took to know that he won't linger in any single place for long. Once he passes through a place, he likely never looks back."

"Whether it's you, me, or this wine—we are merely passing travelers on his path of Cultivation."
