Immortal Travel of Longevity

Chapter 684: Seems to Be Talking Nonsense

The Fish Demon stepped forward, raising a hand to apply a touch of pure spiritual energy to the priest's wound.

Ruyi, still somewhat dazed, hurriedly let go.

Ping'an also rushed forward to support the priest.

Daoist Wuwei waved his hand and let out a sigh. "I am unharmed. You need not worry."

Seeing the Tianpeng Ruler pierced completely through him, Mo Yuan could not help but cast another glance at the priest.

He said nothing, but found himself secretly admiring the man.

Daoist Wuwei gripped the Tianpeng Ruler and suddenly pulled at it.

Seeing this, the Fish Demon hurriedly said, "Priest, stay your hand! Do not pull the ruler out!"

But the priest immediately jerked the long ruler free.

Fresh blood gushed out, and his face grew even paler.

The Fish Demon froze at the sight, failing to react in time.

Lihua was startled as well.

Yet the priest looked as though he was still not finished.

Just as he was about to plunge the long ruler down once more, a voice rang out.

"Priest Wuwei."

At the sound of those words, Priest Wuwei's hand froze, the long ruler halting right before his chest.

Chen Changsheng turned back and said, "One strike is enough."

Priest Wuwei turned to look.

But at that very moment, his eyelids drooped. Stripped of all strength, he collapsed backward and fell unconscious.

Ping'an caught him steadily.

The Fish Demon finally reacted, using his spiritual energy to temporarily suppress the priest's injuries.

The Tianpeng Ruler had fallen to the side.

The Fish Demon glanced at it and could not help but say, "Such a Dharma Instrument is truly formidable..."

A single strike had nearly claimed the priest's life.

Lihua stared blankly at the scene.

It shook its head, not entirely understanding.

"Why... did it happen like this?"

Lihua lowered its head, looking crestfallen.

It simply could not understand.

Ruyi's mind was currently a tangled mess; she had no idea what to do.

Chen Changsheng spoke up, "Priest Wuwei will be fine. There is no need to worry."

Hearing this, Ruyi finally seemed to breathe a sigh of relief.

As long as he was going to be alright.

She somewhat regretted saying those harsh words earlier.

In truth, she had mostly just wanted to scare the priest.

Who could have known he would be so drastic?

Lihua looked at Chen Changsheng and asked, "Chen the Good Man..."

Chen Changsheng turned to look at Mao'er.

"Did Lihua do something wrong?"

Chen Changsheng reached out and rubbed its head. "This is not your fault, Lihua. The priest is atoning for his sins. He is repenting for his past actions, and by doing so, saving himself."

Lihua's mouth hung open. It didn't understand, and suddenly felt a surge of frustration.

It only knew that someone had been hurt because of it.

This was something it never wanted to see.

Mao'er could not fathom why the priest would do such a thing. Why hurt himself?

There were far too many complex principles in this world.

Yet Lihua felt that these principles should not work this way, and found itself thoroughly bewildered.

Ruyi was still in a daze, sitting on the ground with a vacant stare.

Once the priest's breathing had stabilized, Ping'an went over to his sister's side and called, "Sister, sister..."

Ruyi snapped out of it, reaching out to grasp Ping'an's hand.

She looked genuinely frightened, her complexion rather pale.

Having spent time wandering the jianghu, she shouldn't have been so easily shaken. But the priest's actions had truly left her at a loss for how to react.

"Ping'an..."

Ping'an comforted his sister, patting her back as he said, "It's alright, Sister. Everything is alright..."

Seeing this, the Fish Demon said, "I will take the priest to rest."

Chen Changsheng nodded. "I must trouble you, then."

The Fish Demon bowed respectfully. "Mister is too polite. It is but a small effort."

He took Priest Wuwei and departed, lingering no longer.

.

.

Ruyi sat by The Lake.

Ping'an stayed by her side, comforting her.

Lihua stayed by Mo Yuan, curled into a tight ball, staring out over the surface of The Lake. It was hard to tell what it was thinking.

Seeing it like this, Mo Yuan could not help but say, "Mao'er, if you cannot figure things out, just don't think about them. Why not do some fishing?"

Lihua turned to look at him, and Mo Yuan handed over the fishing rod.

Lihua paused for a moment, then took it with two paws.

The fishing rod dipped toward the water, the line disappearing beneath the surface.

Lihua asked, "Why did the priest stab himself? Lihua just cannot understand."

Mo Yuan smiled. "Probably because the priest still holds kindness in his heart. That is why he did it."

"If you hold kindness in your heart, you have to hurt yourself?" Lihua asked.

"Not quite. Rather, it is..."

Mo Yuan suddenly broke off.

For a moment, he didn't know how to answer.

Did the kind-hearted in this world actually receive good karma?

It seemed they did not.

The kind-hearted were often the easiest for the wicked to oppress.

Lihua asked, "Earlier, Ruyi said Chancellor Liu was a good official. That means he was a good person. Why do good people get bullied? Don't they say good people get good rewards?"

Mo Yuan knew the answer to that, but because it was Lihua asking, he didn't know how to explain it.

"Good people do get good rewards."

"What about Chancellor Liu?"

"Him..."

Mo Yuan thought it over. "Probably because in the eyes of certain people, he was a bad person."

"And the priest?"

"The priest is kind-hearted."

"You already said that."

"Yes."

Lihua blinked at Mo Yuan. It seemed to finally understand.

Mo Yuan couldn't answer the question.

It looked over at Chen the Good Man, wanting to ask him instead.

Sensing Mao'er's gaze, Chen Changsheng looked back and said, "Lihua isn't very clever, so Lihua doesn't understand."

Hearing this, Lihua pouted. "How is Lihua not clever?"

Chen Changsheng said, "If you are so clever, why don't you understand?"

Lihua pursed its lips. "Chen the Good Man seems to be talking nonsense."

Chen Changsheng let out a quiet "hmm" and chuckled. "I've been found out, haven't I?"

Lihua gave a light snort. "Lihua won't talk to you anymore."

Chen Changsheng spread his hands, showing he didn't mind.

Lihua curled back up into a ball.

But overall, it was doing a little better than before, no longer quite so deeply gloomy.

Off to the side, Ruyi was also faring much better.

At the very least, she had pulled herself out of her daze regarding what had just occurred.

Ruyi felt that perhaps it really was time she started watching her tongue. It was always getting her into trouble.

Mo Yuan spoke up at this moment, asking, "Are they still fighting up there?"

Everyone turned their eyes toward The Lake.

It was as if they had only just remembered that they were here today to watch the Investiture of Immortals Assembly.

However, as they looked up, they suddenly saw sparkling lights drifting down from the sky.

One landed right on the tip of Mao'er's nose.

Lihua stared at it, exclaiming in delight, "It's snowing!"

Ruyi looked up, watching the snowflakes fall like willow catkins. As they landed on the surface of The Lake, they vanished in an instant, yet still stirred up tiny ripples.

She reached out her hand, marveling, "It really is snow."

Ping'an frowned. "How could it snow in Huaixu?"

Mo Yuan looked toward the pavilion, where two women were standing tall, their eyes locked on the demon before them.

"It is a snow spirit."

Mo Yuan could not help but remark, "Such natural spirits of heaven and earth are quite rare to see."
