Chapter 36: Chapter 36: Completing The Missions

When Derrick opened the door, he saw two people standing there with a huge package lying on the ground before them.

They looked huge and bulky, wearing black leather jackets and pants. Their eyes were hidden behind black shades that gave them a complete bouncer look.

"Please sign here." Derrick took the cardboard from the guy in front and checked out the delivery forms properly before signing them.

"Are you going to install it or will it be someone else?" Derrick asked just to be sure. Fortunately they nodded and asked him where to install the bathtub.

If they were just the delivery guys, that would have been so embarrassing.

Derrick led them upstairs while Rebecca watched everything from the dining table. Within less than 10 minutes, the installation was done and the two guys left the house.

"Did they fit everything properly? Last time the guy did a sloppy job and the gel leaked and flooded the entire floor; fortunately, I have a good drainage system." Rebecca placed a hand on her face and asked with a worried expression.

Derrick did not doubt that if he had left the two men to work on their own, he would have heard an earful from her.

"I will go work on my Novel. It is about time for Cassie to come back home." Derrick said while walking towards his room.

Rebecca stood up from the table herself and stretched her arms above her head. "I will go test out the new tub before she gets home and hogs it all for herself. For someone as unorganized as her, she sure likes to take baths for hours."

Derrick chuckled and went inside his room.

After spending the next hour writing five thousand words for his novel, Derrick realized that his new body was not just good for brawling.

Not only were his reflexes sharper, but his brain was also processing information at a much faster rate than before.

If before he needed 30 minutes just to finish a simple Chapter, now it only took him about half of that.

"Should I complete the rest of the missions?" With nothing else to do, Derrick opened the mission tab and decided to make progress with them.

[Mission 1: Cultivation Starts With Money]

_____

"88,020?" Derrick looked at the screen in shock. "Ah, the system is also counting the money that is still in the hands of the company.

For the first time since he uploaded the book, Derrick opened the payment tab on his profile. He could see every single Social Credit he ever made.

And as he had expected.

{Last Week’s Income: 44,670}

Then he looked at his current income, which had been accumulating for the last 3 days.

43,350 SC

In just a week, his income increased by more than 50%.

And that was only when he had uploaded 3 Chapters a day.

"Should I mass release? 10 Chapters from my pile of 30 Chapters is nothing much." Derrick thought about it for a while before going through with it.

As soon as he uploaded 10 Chapters at once, the comment section exploded.

At the same time all the readers of Her Lies got the same notification on their phones.

{MASS RELEASE: Author Derr has Mass Released 10 Chapters.} Enjoy! :)}

Cooking. Reading. Studying for the exam. Working.

Reading that notification, every reader, no matter what they were doing, stopped to read the Chapters.

Somewhere in the suburban houses of the South Federation,

"Mom, How long will it take for you to cook the food?" A ten year old shouted from the dining table munching at the corner of the tablecloth.

In the kitchen, his mom had turned off the pasta maker and hurriedly picked up her phone to read the latest Chapter.

When she heard the shout of her son, a vein popped on her forehead. "If you are that hungry, come and make it yourself. What else do you do all day besides eating? You won’t die if you don’t eat anything for a while."

The boy’s lower lip wobbled dangerously, eyes glistening as he clutched the edge of the tablecloth tighter.

He wanted to argue, wanted to whine some more, but the look his mother shot him over her shoulder was enough to make him swallow the complaint whole.

"...Okay," he mumbled, sniffling once before obediently plopping back into his chair, kicking his legs under the table as he waited, sulking in silence.

...

Outside the borders of the South Federation, deep within the wilderness, a group of hunters sat sprawled across the blood-soaked grass, taking a moment to catch their breath.

Corpses of twisted, mutated beasts littered the small clearing around them, some still twitching from residual nerve spasms, oozing dark ichor into the dirt.

The stench of copper and rot hung thick in the air, but none of them seemed to mind. Their bodies were riddled with minor cuts and bruises; clearly, they had fought bravely and now needed some time to recover for the next hunt.

Among them sat a mountain of a man, easily the largest in the group.

His head was trimmed neatly. He had a buzz-cut so short that it looked like he was almost bald, and his jaw was sharp enough to cut glass.

Thick, corded muscle bulged beneath a sleeveless combat vest; scars crisscrossed his forearms. He appeared to be a formidable warrior who survived many battles.

And he was also the leader of the group.

He popped a small healing pill into his mouth without ceremony, chewing once before swallowing. Almost instantly the wounds along his ribs were already beginning to close.

Then his phone buzzed.

His brows furrowed instantly.

And seeing him like that, a few hunters nearby flinched on reflex, subtly scooting a few inches away, well acquainted with what that expression usually preceded.

But then—

His lips twitched. A small, almost imperceptible smile tugged at the corner of his otherwise mean-looking face.

The hunters around him stopped breathing for a full second.

"...Did Boss just smile?"

"I think I need my eyes checked—"

"Is he—is he texting someone?"

"No way. NO way. Boss has a girlfriend?!"
