Chapter 37: Chapter 37: The First Skill
"...Did Boss just smile?"
"I think I need my eyes checked—"
"Is he—is he texting someone?"
"No way. NO way. Boss has a girlfriend?!"
The whispers spread like wildfire, hunters leaning toward each other, murmuring behind cupped hands, sneaking glances at their captain like he’d suddenly grown a second head.
One of them, a young woman with a short ponytail and zero sense of self-preservation, got up and sauntered over, peering shamelessly over his shoulder.
"Whatcha looking at, Boss~?" she asked, tone teasing.
The man didn’t even flinch, too absorbed in the screen to care about the invasion of privacy.
"My favorite novel," he grunted, voice low and gravelly.
The woman blinked. "...A novel?"
Her expression shifted from teasing to genuine intrigue, eyebrows raising as she leaned in closer to actually read the text.
Then her eyes widened.
She watched, dumbfounded, as his thick finger tapped the gift icon without hesitation, scrolling straight to the most expensive option available.
[Magic Chariot Gift — 50,000 Social Credits]
He tapped confirm.
"...You just—" she sputtered, staring at him like he’d lost his mind. "You just spent fifty thousand SC. On a gift. For a novel."
The man shrugged one massive shoulder, completely unbothered, already scrolling back up to reread the Chapter from the top. "Worth it."
The rest of the hunters exchanged looks, equal parts baffled and vaguely terrified.
...
Back in his room, Derrick’s screen lit up with a soft chime.
{AzureBlade69: Thank you for the Chapters!}
[Azure Blade69: has donated a Magic Chariot!]
A massive animated chariot burst across his screen in a shower of golden sparks, wheels blazing with fire as it thundered across the notification banner.
Derrick blinked, sitting up straighter. "...Fifty thousand? In one go?"
He didn’t even have time to process it before more notifications started rolling in, one after another, comments flooding beneath the gift.
{Timeless: HOLY SHIT A MAGIC CHARIOT?!}
{RisaChan’sGreatestFan: WHO IS THIS GENEROUS KING I NEED TO KNOW THEM}
{NorthernWildPantylessHoe: bro just funded the author’s rent for a year LMAO}
Derrick let out a stunned laugh, the first thing he did was replied to the person who had just supported him with such a generous donation.
"Thank you for reading them and for the gift as well."
{AzureBlade69: Just Keep doing what you have been.}
After a like, Derrick turned his attention to the system, running a hand through his hair as he watched the numbers on his mission tab tick upward in real time.
[Mission 1: Cultivation Starts With Money]
[Progress: 88,020/100,000 → 158,465/100,000]
"...honestly." His eyes widened. "I did not think it would go up like this—"
[Objective Complete!]
[Reward: 10, 100% Pure, Unranked Physical Enhancement Drugs — Claimed.]
A soft chime rang out as a small notification box materialized in the corner of his vision, ten familiar red pills appearing in his inventory list.
Derrick stared at the screen for a long moment, utterly speechless.
"...In less than ten minutes." He shook his head slowly, a disbelieving grin spreading across his face. "I thought it would at least take me a few hours if not a whole day."
He glanced toward his desk, then toward the door, already thinking about the bathtub upstairs.
Looks like I won’t be waiting until tomorrow after all. I should give these pills to Cassie once she comes back.
Derrick did not take the pills out of the Inventory right away but turned his attention to the last remaining normal mission.
__
[Mission 3: Time For Your First]
Details: Although you have raw power now, it needs to be channeled. So learn a proper fighting manual or martial art that suits your style.
Objective: Learn Your First Skill Manual
Reward: 5 Divine Strength Pill.]

"What counts as skill? I don’t think the mundane ones count since I have a ton of them and the system has not registered any." Derrick whispered to himself.
Derrick tapped his phone.
Online stores popped up. Martial arts courses. Fitness apps. Combat tutorials from ex-military guys with big muscles and even bigger mouths.
He scrolled for a bit.
None of it felt right.
Then it hit him.
"Wait." He sat up straight. "Can I just buy a skill from the system?"
He opened the system screen fast, almost dropping his phone in the process.
"Hey. Would a skill count if I bought it from you instead of learning it the normal way?"
[Yes. Method Does Not Matter. Objective Only Requires Basic Level Mastery Of A Fighting Or Auxiliary Skill.]
Derrick blinked.
"...Seriously?"
[Seriously.]
A grin spread across Derrick’s face before he threw his phone on the bed and took a seat on a chair.
"Okay. Okay, let’s see what you got."
He opened the shop tab.
A list loaded up, category by category.
Combat styles. Weapon skills. Body techniques. Mental focus skills.
The list went on and on. He could see the prices next to each skill, even the most mundane skill costed more than 200,000 Social Credits.
He did not even have half of them.
Not to mention the expensive ones. They directly crossed the million mark.
Derrick scrolled past the expensive stuff without even blinking. No point looking at things he couldn’t afford.
Eventually he found a section labeled Auxiliary Skills — Body Control.
One caught his eye.
[Basic Body Coordination Technique]
[Description: Trains the user’s mind and body to move as one. Improves reaction time, balance, and precision. Beginner level. It even helps the user control a sudden increase in their powerlevel.]
[Cost: 40,000 SC]
Cheapest one he’d found so far.
Derrick stared at the price for a second.
’Forty grand. Ouch. Well, my power level suddenly went from 100 to 9000 so I definitely need this ’
Derrick had the money now.
More than he knew what to do with, honestly. And the reward was five Divine Strength Pills. Each pill was like a treasure to him. Even after he had searched online for hours, he did not find a pill with similar effects.
Either the effects of the pills that even came close were temporary or they had some side effect.
He bought the skill without thinking twice.
[Skill Purchased. Downloading... Complete.]
The moment the words appeared, something shifted inside his head. Like a switch got flipped somewhere behind his eyes.
A new set of information appeared in his mind. It was the detail of the skill he had just bought. It told him how to practice it and what to do."
Derrick stood up from his chair and stepped out of his room. "Let’s test this out."
