Ch 116; To House a Dragon

*Anos’s POV*

It was very quiet in the Common Room, considering that all 7 residents were currently sitting there, gathered around an unlit fireplace gazing at the clouds rolling on the clear blue sky overhead.

It was a pleasant enough afternoon all things considered, except the one small issue currently plaguing the mind of everyone sitting in the room.

“Well, we will need a place for the dragon to go to.” Anos said after listening to the continued silence from everyone else, he was sitting next to the fireplace, with his legs tucked in and his head resting on his knees.

“Well now that we have found the issue, as soon as someone has a solution we will be done.” Alucard said, though without any real bite to his words.

“I don’t have any ideas.” Simon said, putting his head back on the headrest and staring unblinking at the sky while whistling.

“You just want a dragon as an excuse to not do homework.” Hermione said, deep in thought.

“ A dragon is a perfectly valid excuse to not have to do work.” Simon said with a shrug and Lan nodded in agreement.

“We live in a castle with Dumbledore, he might not overpower a dragon but he can most certainly outwit one, not to mention this one will be young; I think the exams will still happen.” Alucard answered, flexing his fingers and the stone ring he wore on it.

“Do you know any place where we can move the Dragon?” Simon questioned.

“Well I was rather thinking of having you somehow get it to America, I’m sure there the Belmont Manor can house one if you made it anything like the Chateau you held in France.” Alucard suggested and Simon grimaced for a brief moment before laughing.

“Ran out of space in your precious Castles? And here I thought NeverWinter was as large as a city.”

“It still is, but I do not think my people will partake in sharing a residence or a city with a dragon, Norwegian Ridgebacks aren’t known for obedience, mayhaps if it was a plunderer than I might have considered it.”

“Want more gold Alucard? And here I thought you were a prince.” Anos chimed.

“I still am, a prince that is. As for gold, well it never hurts much to have it.” Alucard answered, forcing his hand into place at the armrest.

“Except when it did hurt, the goblins, the Anubites, the Dragons.” Anos retorted and Alucard frowned slightly.

“They were rather poor decision makers regarding their wealth.” Alucard replied and Anos matched his frown with one of his own.

“Not the dragons.” Anos sulked in a whisper, knowing that it sounded childish but unable to stop himself from speaking on it.

“We still need a home for a Dragon hatchling.” Draco said, pointedly, trying to steer them away from another argument.

“What about you Malfoy? Your father can perhaps house a Dragon? It is in your name, so he must at least be fond of them.” Alucard said, letting the previous words go.

“My father will put me in the dungeons and my grandfather will force me to make potions all summer if I even give them a hint that I might bring a dragon home.” Draco replied, surprised even at the suggestion.

“Your house has a dungeon?” Hermione asked horrified.

“Not the point here, and no it’s more of a cellar nowadays.” Draco said, brushing away the words and not noticing Hermione muttering ‘nowadays’.

Everyone gave glances at Lan, who was yet to speak.

“Either my family will kill the beast or the Beasts surrounding the mountain will.” Lan replied, seemingly assured that everyone understood the words.

“Well we certainly don’t want that, Hagrid will cry himself to dehydration.”  Anos quipped, getting a few chuckles and snorts for his effort.

“Why can’t we just tell the HeadMaster about it?” Hermione asked, sitting next to Harriet.

“Not unless you want Hagrid to pay a fine worth as much as his yearly salary, Hagrid lives in a hut. I don't think he has that kind of money lying around.” Draco pointed out.

“The laws regarding Dragon rearing are quite… strict. It’s a good thing Hagrid has an egg and did not win a hatchling while drinking.” Anos added in, making sure to emphasize the gravity of the situation.

As far as he knew, having a dragon egg from a wild Dragon was not a good look for any wizard let alone a Half-Giant.

“It will take someone with the position of Minister of Magic and with as much resources as the Malfoys who is ready to risk a lot just to hide a dragon.” Anos continued, before stopping and trying to think of someone that might fit the bill.

But in the end he came up short, for a moment having considered Professor Zephyr but being in possession of a Dragon’s Heart did not bode well for housing a newborn dragon.

“I might have a solution.”  Alucard said then.

“Well I don’t think any of us are bursting with ideas, let’s hear it.” Simon said, cracking his knuckles in boredom, making sharp snapping sounds.

“I have a cousin. One of many, but competent in his tasks, I can write to him to see if he has a solution to it. He is… let’s say a tad more humane than the rest of us but not any weaker for it.” Alucard said with a tinge of reverence shading his words from what Anos could gather.

“Well if he can help the dragon then I don’t see why not.” Anos said with a shrug, scratching lightly at his neck.

Everyone else was quick to agree, though Simon made a noticeable glance in Anos’s direction before answering in affirmation.

“I’ll write to him then.” Alucard said with a light nod.

“Well let’s wait for the reply then.”
