Rong Shuyan’s head throbbed even worse, and he finally began to think that he had made the wrong decision by allowing Rong Yunzhou to take those soldiers.

However, it wasn’t as though he could have stopped the Second Prince.

Even if Rong Shuyan hadn’t told him about the hidden path, Rong Yunzhou would have found out about it sooner or later. As the Second Prince and the general leading this campaign, there was no way such important information could have been kept from him forever.

In the end, Rong Shuyan could advise and make plans, but he couldn’t truly control Rong Yunzhou as long as he held no important military title of his own.

"I’ll do it," General Zhou suddenly said. "I’ll use the eagle to carry the poison."

Rong Shuyan’s eyes widened, and he immediately lifted his head. "Didn’t you hear what I just explained?"

"I did, Your Highness." General Zhou’s lips trembled as he spoke.

For a moment, he seemed to struggle with what he wanted to say.

His expression was filled with conflict, but eventually, he forced himself to meet Rong Shuyan’s eyes. "But I’m the one in charge of these troops, not you, Your Highness."

Rong Shuyan stared at General Zhou for a long moment without saying anything.

He knew exactly what General Zhou meant. Rong Shuyan might be the one making most of the plans, but officially, he was only here as an advisor. General Zhou was the one who actually held authority over these soldiers, which meant that if he truly wanted to take the risk, Rong Shuyan had no right to order him to stop.

Still, knowing that did nothing to ease the frustration building inside him.

His fingers slowly tightened against the edge of the table. They were already dealing with Rong Yunzhou rushing into enemy territory without waiting for proper support, and now General Zhou wanted to risk exhausting his spiritual energy as well.

If General Zhou failed, they could lose their only way of watching the hidden path. If he succeeded but pushed himself too far, Rong Shuyan might lose one of the few people in the camp he could truly rely on.

Neither outcome was something he wanted.

"General Zhou," Rong Shuyan said in a low voice, "you understand that I’m not stopping you simply because I doubt your ability."

"This general understands," General Zhou stated.

Rong Shuyan narrowed his eyes. "Then you should also understand why I don’t want you to take this risk."

General Zhou lowered his gaze. "I understand that as well, Your Highness."

That answer only made Rong Shuyan more frustrated.

If General Zhou understood everything, then why was he still insisting on doing it?

Rong Shuyan opened his mouth as though he wanted to argue again, but in the end, he stopped himself. There was no point in repeating the same warning when General Zhou had clearly already made his decision.

For several seconds, the command tent fell completely silent.

Finally, Rong Shuyan leaned back in his wheelchair and closed his eyes. His aching head only made the frustration inside him worse, but when he spoke again, his voice was surprisingly calm.

"Very well." Rong Shuyan let out a slow breath before opening his eyes again. "Suit yourself, General."

General Zhou lowered his head. "Thank you, Your Highness."

Rong Shuyan didn’t respond. He simply looked back at the military map, clearly unwilling to continue arguing with him.

General Zhou understood that Rong Shuyan was still unhappy with his decision, but there was no time to waste.

He immediately called for one of the trained eagles and ordered the soldiers outside to bring the poison powder they had prepared for the arrowheads.

Fortunately, Physician Liu had prepared more than they needed.

The poison wasn’t strong enough to kill someone immediately, especially when scattered through the air, but that wasn’t their goal.

If even a small amount entered the enemy soldiers’ mouths, noses, or eyes, it could make them dizzy and weaken their bodies. That alone might be enough to give Rong Yunzhou’s soldiers an advantage.

A soldier soon entered the command tent carrying a small cloth pouch.

General Zhou took it and carefully tied it to the eagle’s body. He made sure the pouch wouldn’t open while the bird was flying, but could still be released once it reached the hidden path.

Rong Shuyan watched the entire process without saying anything.

His expression remained cold, but his fingers tapped against the armrest of his wheelchair.

After a moment, Rong Shuyan decided there was no point in staying there any longer. He turned his wheelchair around and headed toward the medical tent to see Lin Xueyi.

Most of the physicians were currently with General Zhou, so Lin Xueyi was alone inside the tent while Mei Lu waited outside for her.

"What are you doing?" Rong Shuyan asked as soon as he entered.

His gaze fell on Lin Xueyi, who was sitting at a table and grinding several dried ingredients with a mortar and pestle. Rong Shuyan only needed one glance to recognize them as some of the ingredients usually used to prepare his medicine.

Strangely, Lin Xueyi didn’t answer him.

Instead, she continued grinding the ingredients, each movement becoming harder than the last. Her eyes were slightly red as well, though Rong Shuyan couldn’t tell whether it was because she was angry or because she was holding back tears.

But why would she want to cry?

Rong Shuyan wondered what could have upset her so much. However, he didn’t have to wait long for his question to be answered because her angry thoughts soon filled his head.

[Why does everyone keep treating him so badly?]

[That bastard Yunzhou does whatever he wants, and now General Zhou is doing the same thing!]

[Yanyan already warned them, but no one wants to listen to him.]

[Does all his experience as a former general mean nothing? Why does everyone act like someone with a lower position is worth less than trash?]

[Then why did we even have to come all the way here if no one is going to listen to him?!]

[Why? Why? Why? Why?!]

The more Lin Xueyi thought about it, the angrier she became. Her hand moved faster and faster as she ground the dried herbs, as though she was trying to crush the mortar itself instead of the medicine inside it.

Rong Shuyan quietly watched her for a moment.

"Xueyi," he finally called.

"What?!" Lin Xueyi snapped as she lifted her head.

The moment she realized who had called her, however, her eyes widened.

"Ah, Your Highness!" Her anger disappeared almost instantly, replaced by panic. "I-I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to—"

"What’s wrong?" Rong Shuyan interrupted her before she could finish. His gaze dropped to the hand still tightly gripping the pestle. "You’ll hurt your hands if you keep grinding the medicine like that."
