After Kyle had recovered enough to walk without feeling like his soul had left his body, the two of them continued exploring the rest of the park. They went through the haunted house next, which, despite all of Lira’s confidence earlier, turned out to be a completely different story.

"Ahhh!"

Lira screeched like a cornered kitten when a guy wearing a horrifying screamer mask suddenly jumped out from a dark corner, a fake bloody cleaver raised in his hand.

Lira immediately grabbed onto Kyle’s arm and hugged it tightly, her face having gone completely pale.

Kyle stared at her for a second before a huge grin spread across his face.

"What happened? Who’s the scaredy-cat now?"

"Shut up!"

Lira didn’t even bother looking at him as she continued clinging to his arm.

Kyle burst out laughing and grabbed her hand, pulling her along as they hurried away from the costumed hunter chasing them through the attraction.

"Come on! Run!"

"I am running!"

"You’re holding onto me!"

"Because you’re supposed to protect me!"

Kyle laughed even harder.

He had been the one losing his mind on the roller coaster, but now he was finally getting his fill of teasing her.

Of course, they didn’t spend the entire day doing extreme activities. They also enjoyed plenty of the simpler attractions, including go-karting.

"Turn! Turn! Turn!"

Kyle practically screamed into Lira’s ear as she struggled to control the kart while racing against the other visitors.

"Where?! Turn where?!"

"Left!"

"Which left?!"

"How many left do we even have?!"

"That’s not helpful!"

Lira frantically turned the steering wheel, barely avoiding another kart as Kyle continued shouting directions beside her.

After the go-karts came the merry-go-round, followed by several other small rides and games scattered throughout the amusement park. They played shooting games, competed over stupid little prizes, and laughed at each other’s failures.

At one point, Lira managed to win a pair of brown bunny ears for Kyle.

She immediately put them on his head.

"There. Perfect."

"You’re enjoying this way too much."

"You look cute."

"Take them off."

"No."

Later, Kyle managed to win a pair of white fluffy bunny ears for her.

He placed them on her head with a smug smile.

"Now we’re even."

Lira touched the ears and laughed.

"We look ridiculous."

"We do."

"But..."

She looked at him.

"...I like it."

Before either of them realized it, evening had already arrived.

They had originally planned to do far more things during their day together, but time had passed far faster than either expected. There were only twenty-four hours in a day, after all, and almost half of those were swallowed by the night.

For once, they had allowed themselves to be kids again.

Just two adults acting like idiots and enjoying themselves.

"urgh! That was fun. So much fun."

Lira stretched both arms toward the sky as they finally left the amusement park.

The two of them eventually settled down on a stone bench in a public park near Lira’s apartment. The night sky stretched above them, illuminated by a bright full moon and scattered city lights.

To say they were merely tired would have been an understatement.

They were completely exhausted.

But neither of them regretted it.

Kyle still wore the brown bunny ears Lira had won for him, while Lira wore the white fluffy pair he’d won for her.

"It was more than just fun," Kyle said.

Lira turned her head toward him.

Kyle looked at her under the pale moonlight.

"Maybe it was more fun because you were by my si—"

*Trriiiing!*

The sudden alarm from Lira’s phone cut him off.

Lira startled violently.

"Fuck! This stupid alarm!"

She immediately grabbed her phone and shut it off.

"I forgot to disable it today."

Kyle chuckled.

"I absolutely despise alarms that ring out of nowhere."

Then he paused.

"But wait... your alarm rang. Does that mean it’s already ten?"

That was usually the time her alarm went off, signaling the end of her shift.

Lira checked her phone.

"Holy fuck."

Her eyes widened.

"Yes! It’s ten!"

She looked around in disbelief.

"How long have we been sitting here?"

Kyle glanced at the time.

"We came here around eight fifteen, didn’t we?"

"Yeah..."

She stared at the screen.

"How did almost two hours pass?"

Neither of them had noticed.

The company had been so comfortable that the passage of time had become almost irrelevant.

They finally looked around. The park was completely empty.

Everyone else had already gone home long ago.

There were only the two of them now, sitting beneath the night sky with the empty park surrounding them.

Kyle stood up and stretched.

"Well, maybe we should finally call it a date now?"

He looked at her with a faint smile.

"It’s not like we are going to away for too long since we have our shift tomorrow."

Lira yawned as she stood.

"You’re right."

She rubbed her tired eyes.

"I really want to go on another date already, though."

"We will. Don’t worry."

Kyle reached for her hand.

"Now, first, let me drop you off."

"You don’t have to take me all the way to my apartment. Your place is far from here, and it’s in the opposite direction. You should just go home."

"Don’t worry. There’s a shortcut from your side. I’ll take it."

Kyle insisted.

"If you say so."

Lira didn’t push the matter any further.

What she didn’t know was that Kyle had just lied. There was no shortcut. His detour would only make his walk home considerably longer.

But he couldn’t simply let her walk home alone at night. She was his responsibility now.

Even if he hadn’t picked her up from her apartment that morning, he still felt responsible for making sure she reached home safely.

So they left the park together and began walking.

The streets were unusually empty.

There were no crowds, no cars passing frequently, and not even any stray dogs wandering around.

Just the two of them, the quiet road, and the streetlights stretching into the distance.

They continued talking as they walked.

Surprisingly, even after spending almost the entire day together, they still had plenty to talk about.

Lira’s apartment was only about fifteen minutes away from the park, but at the pace they were walking—and with how often they stopped to talk—it would probably take them twice that.

Neither of them cared.

Why would they? They were enjoying the walk and had no reason to rush.

Then, as they approached a corner only a short distance from Lira’s apartment, Kyle suddenly stopped.

"!"

His expression changed.

’It’s that bastard! Why is he here?’

Across the road stood a group of delinquents.

And at the center of them was the same man with the crooked face—the bastard Kyle had chased away from the store.

’Who the hell is he with?’

Kyle’s eyes narrowed.

’And why are they here? This road is barely a hundred meters from Lira’s apartment.’

A terrible possibility entered his mind.

’Don’t tell me...’

His stomach tightened.

’These bastards came here for revenge.’

He immediately looked at Lira.

"We’re leaving," he whispered.

Lira followed his gaze and finally noticed the group as well.

Unfortunately, it was too late.

One of the men suddenly spotted Kyle’s foot sticking out from behind the corner.

"Boss!"

The man pointed toward them.

"Are you talking about these guys?!"
